Ken Levine: BioShock film won't be a stinker

Speaking to videogaming247.com, 2K Boston's Ken Levine did his best to allay the fear that the upcoming BioShock film will be a turkey. "You're always going to be worried that in that first meeting they're going to be, like, 'OK, it's Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey on a desert island hunting for pirate treasure,' but it's not going to go that way," said Levine. The film's director Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean) "gets" BioShock according to Levine, and he assures fans that Verbinski and script writer John Logan "will very much honour the dramatic and thematic elements of the game." Considering Verbinski managed to turn a theme park ride into a decent set of films, we're hopeful that Levine's faith is justified. Then again, the last time someone made a game movie and claimed to really understand the source material, we wound up Silent Hill.
Fingers crossed.
Fingers crossed.

What a low blow! Matthew McConaughey is the best actor EVER!

I really hope he means what he says.
Anyway, if they have a midnight showing for the movie around here, I will most definitely dress up as a Big Daddy in public

Hey! I actually liked the Silent Hill movie. That pyramid head guy scared the @#$& out of me!

The Silent Hill movie was enjoyable, Richard.
In light of say, Doom, Bloodrayne, Street Fighter, Mario Bros, and Resident Evil, the Silent Hill movie was the best and truest to canon.
Maybe it wasn't the best standalone movie ever, but it was good for the fans I'd say. It makes me excited for the new game..

Truth be told, I liked the Silent Hill movie as well. I defended it. My only problem was the reliance on gore, which is *not* what makes Silent Hill horrifying.
It is the only game movie in recent memory that I know the writer and director supposedly "got" the franchise though.

Yeah Rich Mitch, your opinion is completely invalid because a couple people disagree with you!

Incidentally I kind of like Matthew McConaughey. Sahara wasn't THAT bad. Steve Zahn FTW!

It would be nice if they used the original voices for the movie. Has anyone mentioned that in production meetings yet?

BioShock is one of my favourite 360 games. I'm stoked that they are making a movie about it but i can't help but wonder if having Gore Verbinski as the director is going to do the movie any justice. I would have hoped they got Guillermo del Toro instead since we know he'd do an amazing job. Hopefully Ken Levine keeps a close eye on the progress of the movie and it does the game some justice.

Good call on Del Toro.
