Halo 3 takes home Gphoria GOTY honors

Even though it released last September to a flurry of excitement, it is still the most played game on Xbox Live, still holds crazy ridiculous sales records and still has a loyal fanbase, which is probably why Halo 3 was selected as G4's Gphoria 2008 Game of the Year. Beating out other worthy GOTY contenders like BioShock, MGS4 and CoD4, Halo 3 barely squeaked away a win in the closest Gphoria GOTY vote ever. Decided by less than 40 votes. Watch Bungie's acceptance speak (flaming Recon FTW!) and give a congratulatory shout out to team Bungie. Long live the Halo 3!

I commented that I agreed and WHY I agreed. I ridicule someone who just proclaims, "What EXACTLY are they smoking" or "A excellent reminder of why I will never watch G4" and doesn't state a SINGLE REASON WHY as if their f'ing word is so important they don't have to.

It's just complete laziness. Call it an "opinion" if you want but I call it nothing more than some lazy douche with access to a keyboard and internet. That's my opinion and that's WHY I have that opinion.

AND FOR THE RECORD: Halo 3 as an overall package does so many things other games either don't do or don't do well and puts it all into one package with the GREAT quality Bungie is known for.

You want my opinion? My opinion is posted somewhere here, but basically Halo 3 not only DID NOT COME OUT THIS YEAR, it also pales in comparison to my now-favorite game, MGS4. NO, i don't love it becuase it's exclusive to PS3. I don't even love it becuase of anything Sony did (except create the PS3). I love Kojima's games, i think he's a genius, and i think MGS4 perfectly sums up a 20-year-old series as well as makes an amazing game not found in any medium, anywhere in the world.

THAT'S my opinion. Class dismissed.

Congratulations to Bungie, it's well deserved. Overall Halo 3 is a fantastic game from the FOUR PLAYER CO-OP, the inclusion of in-game movie / picture saves, multi-player groups / games to the conclusion of this series story.

This would have been my choice too. 4 player co-op(something that other games just aren't doing) and a great story. I had SO much fun with this game in the single player and multi-player.

When I stack up all the things I like about my favorite games, Halo 3 comes out on top.

I agree Zebra Niner, whether you go back to play the single player or multiplayer, most likely you're going to have an equally entertaining experience. I have to say that, for me, the in game movie saves are HUGE. I wish Gears of War had this feature... hell, I wish ALL games had this feature!!

Again, when you stack up everything that Halo 3 does, and it does everything very well - great, I can definitely see why it's the winner, even if it isn't what I'd choose personally.

Halo 3 has more players, check Major Nelson. Funny thing about opinions, they're opinions. This was voted by fans, as in the same people who play these games on Xbox Live, and Halo 3 beat it out. Even MGS4 beat CoD4, which means that the amount of players who believe CoD4 is better is less than the amount of people who feel Halo 3 is superior.

And yet it takes ages to join a game in Halo 3 and sometimes it takes so long you just give up. I get a game quicker on Halo 2 than on Halo 3. So if so many people are playing why does it take so long? Maybe it's not a case of more people playing Halo 3 but people moving on from CoD 4 to other games such as Battlefield: Bad Company.

I played Halo 3 for ages until I decided it was no where near as fun as Halo 2. Then I switched ot CoD 4 but now I'm bored of that and alternate bewteen Bad Company and Halo 2 (Team Snipers).

I bought the collector's edition of Bioshock. When I was playing it I wanted to find all of the tape recorders to hear the story and my wife enjoyed watching me play. After I beat it, I didn't even go back to see the "bad" ending.

When I bought Halo 3, my wife played WITH me. We played co-op for the entire game, and even went back and found all of the skulls and went for the level scoring achievements.

I'm not putting Bioshock down, I thought it was a great game, but I definitely didn't have the same experience I had with Halo 3.

I think the important thing to remember, is this is a viewer voted award.

Considering G4's lost a large portion of its PS3 owners viewership for all its Sony hate, it's really no surprise Halo 3 won (I for one didn't even know it was time for Gphoria again). What is surprising is that it only won by a margin of a very meager 40 votes. I think that says more for MGS4 than it does for Halo 3.

Halo 3 is bad compared to the first game. I sold it a few weeks after buying it. It wasn't worth the pricetag, especially with the terrible ending. BioShock more than deserved the award due to the fact that it wasn't another sequel or rehash. The story was much more compelling and entertaining imho. At the very least, there should've been more original titles to choose from. Everything was so predictable that it was boring. The only standout this year was Mario Kart Wii for Best Racer. I don't think anyone saw that coming...

Halo MP is as random as the wind, but worthy of an award.

Halo 3's single-player campaign is utter and complete garbage. Anyone who thinks different is just so into the Halo franchise, they're willing to overlook it.

Half Life series, Bioshock... THOSE are single-player campaigns worth playing. Even COD4, as scripted as it was, is stirring and interesting.

Bungie can't tell a story to save its life. But their physics engine is great. So, they won. Fine.
