Analysts: Xbox 360 outsold PS3 in July

Prior to the release of the official July NPD video game sales numbers that are set to come out this Thursday, the gaming industry's best analysts have released their console sales predictions and things are looking peachy for Microsoft and the Xbox 360.

Analysts Michael Pachter and Jesse Divnich both agree that, after a bad June, the Xbox 360's July hardware sales will overtake the Playstation 3 thanks to the announcement of the 60GB Xbox 360 and low price of the 20GB model. Pachter is pegging the 360 to have sales in the 275K range compared to the PS3's 250K, while Divnich is a bit more 360 optimistic setting July 360 sales at 325K compared to the PS3's 275K. Whatever July's NPD numbers end up being, we have a feeling that our analyst friends will be correct and the 360 will have had a decent July. Pass the champagne!

dude w.e xbox will not they already juiced out all of the xbox's power ps3 is still a baby meaning devs are" we have only used 40 or 30 percent of the ps3s power" so xbox will die off this year ull see.

power? is it all about power? ps2 is still very popular and kicked original xbox's butt. ps3 and 360 are both powerful and right now, it's up to the games and community, and I'd say 360 online community is more organized.

The reason you missed it, oh brilliant rocket scientist, was because 360 fanboy actually puts out regular, relevant subjects. Could possibly be that the 360 is a console that still, after 3 years, buzzes like a bumblebee in an electric chair.

With a $50 pricedrop, I can't imagine why they wouldn't especially since there wasn't anything amazing that came out for PS3 last month that could overturn it in Sony's favor, but who knows....

Personally, I don't think july will be a Xbox month, I think PS3 will hold it down until Fall where xbox will be high up there.

Nothing is coming out on both systems really except some exceptions, but blu-ray is what everyone wants. So people will be getting the ps3 for that then, when the fall rush in good games comes out, everyone will be yay!!, good old xbox.

Plus the announcement of FF13, Star Ocean 4, and other JRPGS coming to Xbox 360 will boost sales up also. I think 360 is back in the throne and will stay there. PS3 had its 6 month run, but that's all it's gonna get

Not neccessarily, while it does seem that 360 is getting its dominance back both the ps3 and the 360 will clash for the next 5-7 months because both systems have largely anticipated titles coming out. Gears of war 2 might give an extra boost to the 360 though. None the less, ps3's got huge titles that will hold it enough to compete on par with the 360.

Please list said PS3 exclusive titles that are worth anything. My personal take on it is that people initially bought PS3's once it was final that blu-ray won the format war. Now that people are coming to their senses are realizing that game machines are for playing games, the game heavy 360 is making its comeback

well because, as long as the 360 sells well HERE, 3rd party developers will continue to make games for it. And that's all it really comes down to. At least for me. My concern that the 360 sells well isn't for Microsofts sake, it's for the sake of keeping developers interested in making games for it.

As long as it continues to sell well here, there will continue to be an interest in making games for it.

At least, thats how I see it.

Celebrating that the 360 is getting hammered by the PS3 outside the US, and that the 360's sales are a fraction of what they were this time last year, despite desperate price cuts and new SKU's

I wouldn't be breaking out champagne..

Hollow victory (if you can call a prediction that), for single month sales, where PS3 have otherwise all but dominated 2008 so far...

afaik its mostly a one-sided affair. i frequent both sites and i see more 360 bashing from the ps3 fans here than the opposite happening over there. i think it has something to do with their lack of games... they're bored of their 3 games so they need to troll 360 sites to feel better about themselves and their crappy purchase :)

Someone please explain the attraction of this whole 360 vs Ps3 thing. you do know that you can own and like both right? I even have some friends that *gasp* own a 360, PS3 and wii. In fact, I think real gamers probably would own more than one console sysem if their budget allows it! And if their budget doesn't allow it that's okay...they don't have to bash the one they choose not to own lol.

Having said that, I do find the PS3 fans to be a bit more rabid about denouncing other systems and taking it a bit more personal when anybody says anything negative about the PS3. Heck, both systems have positives and negatives.

Granted I'm not *that* rabid a fanboy myself (funds permitting I'll have a ps3 by the end of the year)... but that doesn't mean it's any less fun to take sides for a good online row.

Well this is actually pretty damn good if you consider that the 360 hasnt really had any big games that came out in 08 so far and that PS3 released MGS4 not too long ago. I think once games like gears and fable and a few others hit, the 360 will start to out sell the PS3 a lot more often.
