Lionhead explains gold transfer process from Pub Games to Fable 2

When playing the Pub Games, you first choose a gambler. Proceed to gamble your heart out. Then, when you buy Fable 2 come October, create a hero and wander about until you find a "Gamemaster" at a local tavern or out and about. Accept the Gamemaster's invite to play a game where you'll then be given the chance to merge your Fable 2 hero with your Pub Games gambler. POOF! Your hero will now have access to the gold your Pub Games' gambler accrued. You can even merge many gamblers (and their bank accounts) together into one gambler which can be merged with your Fable 2 hero. But be warned. Once a hero and a gambler have merged, there is no undo option or any going back. Commitment, nice!

Why, why, WHY do we need to do it this way? Can't Fable II just see we have the pub game and move the money over as soon as we start a new hero?
Jackattaak @ Aug 12th 2008 1:06PM
They have good reasons for holding your millions back from your character for a while.
I believe you are starting as a child again, and an orphan/street urchin type. Would be a little strange to be doing quests for food/shelter or similar when you have millions of gold!!!
Neuromancer @ Aug 12th 2008 3:31PM
You know it doesn't really sound that hard, not sure why you're complaining.
Personally I think the whole idea of tying together an XBLA game and a retail game is super cool, esp. considering the XBLA game is free (with preorder anyway). Good job Lionhead.
veridis @ Aug 12th 2008 12:26PM
Is the pre-order deal availible in the UK? I see no sign of it on any of the websites letting you pre-order fable.
Jackattaak @ Aug 12th 2008 12:32PM
Gamestation and Game are listed somewhere on the Lionhead site as participating retailers, my local Gamestation says they will have the codes for the Pub Games in tomorrow (Wednesday).
Hope this helps!
Brian @ Aug 12th 2008 12:28PM
Me likely, I hope Developers take note and do this in more games.
craig64 @ Aug 12th 2008 12:32PM
I'm going to check while I'm at the mall today and see if it's possible to still get these codes. The games don't look too exciting... but I know I'll be buying Fable 2 anyways.
Mr Bunky @ Aug 12th 2008 12:34PM
That's great and all, but does anyone know when gamestop.com is mailing out the codes for people who pre-ordered online?
Fire Fawkes @ Aug 12th 2008 1:32PM
I would imagine tomorrow. I don't see people getting the codes before the game is released.
MrJ @ Aug 12th 2008 1:50PM
Good question. I've yet to receive mine as well.
Dirty @ Aug 12th 2008 2:47PM
You can go pick up your physical preorder cards at gamestop now, why not email it now. Its just a code.
Trogdor @ Aug 12th 2008 12:35PM
Just preordered mine from Amazon. Lionhead.com has a list of all the participating retailers in the US and UK.
I think they are doing it like this because it's more immersive, as opposed to just loading a new hero and having tons of money right away. I don't mind finding a gamemaster.
The Beta Max @ Aug 12th 2008 1:21PM
I guess I mind the whole 'both names merge into one' thing. What if I want a hero with one name? At the proper age my hero should be able to go into a bank and just take the money out. As I play the side-game the money is put into the game for my hero to access...
todd @ Aug 12th 2008 1:54PM
So, are we getting it tomorrow?
Jonah Falcon @ Aug 12th 2008 2:04PM
Except it's not gold in the game. It's XP.
AoE @ Aug 12th 2008 3:46PM
except it's gold in the game, at least if lionhead's press releases and microsoft's press releases are to be concerned. Perhaps you can point us to the source of your info that it's xp that one earns and not gold? You've mentioned it a few times now... but like i said, lionhead and microsoft official press materials don't agree with you, so i'm curious where you got your information that makes you so certain that MS and Lionhead are lying to us? Also... why would they lie?
Jonah Falcon @ Aug 12th 2008 4:13PM
Actually, no. In a hands on preview, they stated it was XP.
http://xboxlive.ign.com/articles/886/886945p1.html
Any money earned from these games will be turned into experience points in Fable II, at a rate of one gold per XP for the linked character; however, part of the risk is that debt incurred has negative consequences on the character.
Jonah Falcon @ Aug 12th 2008 4:14PM
(Which makes sense, of course. What are you going to do with NEGATIVE gold for a freshly minted character? Remember, the game comes out 6 weeks ahead of the game.)
AoE @ Aug 12th 2008 4:58PM
The article you linked to mentions only gold and items being transfered to fable 2. While they did indeed talk about xp, it's pub-games specific xp that unlocks alternate modes of the pub-games themselves, there is not word one in that article about xp transfering. On the other hand, they do mention gold and items transfering to fable 2 a couple of times. So far it lines up with the press releases from MSGS and Lionhead... gold's getting transfered, not xp... Do you have another source article that you got the xp thing from... it didn't seem to originate in this ign preview.
Jonah Falcon @ Aug 12th 2008 2:05PM
By the way, that's not a knight on fire.
The way the game works is that you decide to bet on a row. If a card touches the same type of card in a previous row, you lose - EXCEPT, there are 4 Hero cards in the deck. If a Hero card is in that row, it saves you from losing that row.
Neuromancer @ Aug 12th 2008 3:32PM
That doesn't make the caption any less funny however
Jonah Falcon @ Aug 12th 2008 3:35PM
I s'pose. Oh, and the top card remains face down - it's the Gate card. If you get a bad match, you can swap it with the Gate card as a last ditch save. It doesn't always work, of course.
