Need for Speed Undercover speeds to November
Black Box today announced that Need For Speed Undercover will be arriving November 18 in North America and Novermber 21 in Europe. The game brings cop chases back to the series and features actress Maggie Q -- famous for her roles in Live Free or Die Hard and Mission Impossible III (not to mention having a letter for a last name) -- in live action segments that "propel the original story." Q plays a federal agent, described as "a seductive handler who recruits and guides players as they go undercover." Let's get this straight, a sexy woman recruits you so you can become an undercover agent that drives awesome cars for a living? So, basically, it's a 15-year-old's fantasy come true.
For what it's worth, Black Box claims that Undercover "takes the franchise back to its roots" and throws police chases back into the mix. No word on whether or not the police involved are also sexy.

Let's hope there's a little more Most Wanted and a lot less Carbon and ProStreet, those games were crrrrap!

Isn't that Need for Speed: Most Wanted? Wait, let's back up...
Let's look at NFS' roots, shall we? A game obviously in love with cars (e.g. narrated showcases in Road & Track Presents, pretty much all of Porsche Unleashed), filled with amazing exotic performance sports cars, tearing through beautiful and diverse locals, from shining seaside highways to lush national parks and even active volcanoes. Note the utter lack of ridiculous, juvenile stories; oxymoronic "urban exotics" like, uh, Golfs and Tiburons; and ugly obnoxious paint jobs and high school fantasy accessories (that can include Maggie Q if you like).
The closest thing we've had to a real NFS since NFS Underground became the de facto series standard is Test Drive Unlimited, IMO. Meanwhile NFS devolves into a better-driving SRS (can we win Maggie Q yet?). But it sells like Civic parts, so why the hell not.
Ahh, Burnout, how you erase the pain.

I agree. Most Wanted was the best I had played, and the nighttime crap (Carbon/Underground) just has to go. I don't want to pretend like I'm some pansy in an Eclipse running from the 5-0 at 3am. I want a true racing game with the element of the police thrown in for good measure.
Burnout Paradise definitely fills that gap, I only wish that once you beat everything, it's replayability was better. The only thing I go back to there is to play online, which I admit is good, just limiting.

This is exactly what I was saying to a friend yesterday. To EA, the "roots" of NFS are Underground >_

Now that you said it twice, I believe you.

I remember back when NFS wasn't a yearly garbage fest. Thanks EA for ruining it like everything else.
Dwag @ Aug 15th 2008 8:11PM
So eventhough the NFS team was split in two we still are gonna get a NFS every year from now on right?
deejaymoogz @ Aug 15th 2008 10:00PM
I just hope it lives up to it's own hype. Just sounds too good to be true.

it better be like the old NFS games because pro street sucked... actually make it like NFS: Underground 2 that is my favorite NFS game
tifosiotaku @ Aug 17th 2008 10:34AM
Underground 2 and "favorite NFS game" should never go together, unless you're a misinformed lemming who should know better.
Malfoy Roark @ Aug 16th 2008 3:30AM
The best NFSs were Hot Pursuit 1+ 2.
lostvader @ Aug 16th 2008 8:05AM
yay Maggie Q
offday @ Aug 16th 2008 11:18AM
Ummm a 15 year old's fantasy? I'm 22 and that's my fantasy. Let's be realistic here.
WinterTiger @ Aug 16th 2008 12:36PM
Yeah, I'd say most males would agree. Least those under 30-something...
WinterTiger @ Aug 16th 2008 12:37PM
Yeah, each team takes turns releasing, so they get 24 months per game.
tifosiotaku @ Aug 16th 2008 12:42PM
Midnight Club LA comes out a month before this, so I'm passing on Undercover. And since I'm a NFS junkie, it pains me to say that I'm skipping this one, but I am. Bow down to the new overlords of street racing at Rockstar San Diego.
cosmic @ Aug 16th 2008 2:18PM
I agree with pretty much all of you here. This game is gonna suck, hot pursuit 1 and 2 were the best, EA ruined the series, and Midnight Club LA is gonna rock. The only thing I'll disagree with is, while I love Burnout Paradise, my favorite racing games now are Grid and Dirt :)
NoRedRingsForMe @ Aug 17th 2008 6:45AM

I agree too...but also...I wish we had Bluray. and Wifi. and Bluetooth technology. and free online play without childish stupid looking playskool avatars. and quieter dvd drives. and a reliable system to play games on long after the 3yr warranty is up. Life sucks.
todd @ Aug 17th 2008 4:44PM
Loved Most Wanted, hopefully it will be just as good.
Boff @ Aug 18th 2008 6:57AM
That bird was in 'Balls of Fury' too. Well tasty.
If I had to be critical though it's that she's a bit too skinny for my liking.
Oh yeah, and NFS:MW rocked.
Twitch @ Aug 19th 2008 4:58AM
I remember when NFS wasnt a bunch of fantacy bull. Need for Speed:Hot Pursuit 1 and 2 were great, the Porche thing was okay. Underground started a new revolution to NFS,and sence then they've just exsaggerated it over...and over...and over again. ProStreet was too big of a disapointment. But i do have to say i would MUCH rather be playing an undercover cop in DAY and night, than just be a punk in a POS corolla at 3am running from the fuzz. They said that this one,Undercover, was going to be the last one in the series. So lets just hope they went all out. Otherwise,it'll be a disapointing death for the famous "Need for Speed" franchise.
