Rock Band DLC: Devo and Duran Duran incoming
On the official Rock Band forums, HMXaleX just posted a list of next week's Rock Band downloadable content, all of which comes straight from the 1980s. Oh yes, the 80s. Two tracks from Devo and Duran Duran will be lovingly placed on the XBLM for purchase on Tuesday, August 19th with both Devo tracks being new recordings done special for Rock Band (must've lost the masters, doh!) But that isn't quite it, there will also be an American Mall soundtrack song by The Janitors value priced for 80 MS points as well. DLC list below:
- "Girl U Want" by Devo - 160

- "Through Being Cool" by Devo - 160

- "Girls on Film" by Duran Duran - 160

- "Rio" by Duran Duran - 160

- "Get Your Rock On" by The Janitors - 80

I never knew that video was so strange.
Silverbullet767 @ Aug 15th 2008 2:48PM
Duran Duran!!!
I'll be buying those!
Mauricio @ Aug 15th 2008 2:56PM
DURAN DURAN is the shit. Saw them about 3 yrs ago, they're fucking great live.
Tony @ Aug 15th 2008 3:04PM
Nice!
I was just listening to DFA1979 and this game desperately needs a song or two of theirs. Romantic Rights would be awesome.
AoE @ Aug 15th 2008 3:22PM
agreed. Also, you reminded me of CSS:

Ugh... I don't know why I get my hopes up every week, thinking that, even though I have been disappointed for the past few months with nothing REALLY good, Harmonix will give me something good THIS week.
I set myself up every time... But maybe NEXT week will there will be something I'll be willing to pay for and download.
EdgeOne @ Aug 16th 2008 8:22AM
Hey, they need to throw us old guys a bone once in a while, ya know.
Ahhh the 80s, what a great decade to grow up in! See how much fun they're having in the video? Artists take themselves way too serious now.
RotNRollHunter @ Aug 15th 2008 3:07PM
coulda gotten better Devo... It's the same with NIN they always choose subpar tracks. But those Duran Duran tracks are spot on
Scott @ Aug 15th 2008 4:18PM
They will always save the non subpar tracks for the yearly game releases. Why waste all of their good tracks for DLC when they can use those tracks to help sell the new games.
Magic Whiskey @ Aug 15th 2008 3:10PM
Hey, a quick question to everyone.
Rock Band DLC music: does it permanently stay up and available to purchase in the Marketplace? I ask because I own Rock Band but I've never once bought a song. Is it too late for me to download stuff retroactively if I wanted to?
Ghoti @ Aug 15th 2008 3:16PM
As far as I know, all of the songs are posted there and none have ever been removed. I suppose there's always a chance though.
Regarding this week's DLC, I am very happy with the selection! I might have picked some different ones, like "Whip It!" by Devo, and "Save A Prayer" by Duran Duran, but the tracks they picked are all good ones too!
Magic Whiskey @ Aug 15th 2008 3:20PM
I opted for the Bionic Commando Rearmed iTunes soundtrack for my music fix this week.. :)
AoE @ Aug 15th 2008 3:23PM
nope, it's all there. Supposedly all DLC will work with RB2 as well :)
ChromaTick @ Aug 15th 2008 4:09PM
It all stays up on Marketplace.
MacMan @ Aug 15th 2008 3:12PM
Why no new duran duran stuff? Red Carpet Massacre was good, had lots of guitar and drums in it.
Still, Girls on Film! PLEASE include the vid ;)
Gemini Ace @ Aug 15th 2008 3:15PM
I guess I'll go ahead and say it.
Where's Nevermind?!

bugatti23007 @ Aug 15th 2008 10:26PM
Rock Band needs to stop with all the old bands I think most gamers in their thirties have plenty of bands for them. There's hardly anything for me there's only 30 seconds from mars, all american rejects,A7X,paramore,
Disturbed.Just 5 WTF.They need to look at Fuse TV and music sites like lastfm.com and something called myspace to see what bands most people like.
m13b @ Aug 16th 2008 1:20PM
Yeah, well, us old guys have all the money.
MU HA HA HA!
(It's almost September. Go to school!) ;^)
dronesensor @ Aug 16th 2008 6:19PM
you meant "...to see what bands *stupid* people like", right?
ZeitgeistXIII @ Aug 17th 2008 1:37PM
Maybe the new bands are not into having them played on a video game? Or perhaps there are record company ppl who think the y can make money off the nostalgia factor with ppl who would buy the music. In my 20s video games were fun but not played as much as I do now in my later 30s. I was single had things to do ppl to see girls to be chased. Money was tight and I would rather used money for the single life actvities than sitting at home playing games. Now I have my wife my children and a reasonable source of income. Yeah we go out but weekends only for the most part and its worth my money to have some in house entertainement especially something we all do together like rockband.
JohnHeist @ Aug 15th 2008 10:56PM
I gotta laugh at the "Subpar NIN tracks" part.
March of the Pigs? BURN?! Subpar? GTFO
Rob @ Aug 17th 2008 2:50AM
They might as well add "I Ran" Flock of Seagulls, Dead or Alive - "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)", B52- "Rock Lobster", Duran Duran "Hungry Like the Wolf"
rikku @ Aug 17th 2008 5:14PM
Omg heres an idea.
learn how to play the fucking guitar and make something out of yourself.
Giving Bill Gates Blowjobs for free games is no way to live.

I'm fired up for Duran Duran. Three weeks of solid DLC in a row (SOAD, DT, and DD). See my detailed thoughts: My Gadget, Game & Gizmo Obsession

Devo is my favorite band in the entire history of music, but honestly, they could have chosen way better tracks. Those are some of my least favorite. Where's the stuff from Q/A ?
