Rumor: Xbox 360 price cuts; 60GB $299, Elite $399, Arcade $199
The rumor that wouldn't die has once again reared its ugly head as a new advertisement hints at Xbox 360 price-drops across the board. According to an ad from Radio Shack the Xbox 360 Pro (60GB) and Elite units will receive a $50 price drop by the week of the Sept. 7, making the 60GB model $299 and the Elite $399 while the Arcade bundle will drop $80 to $199. Source spies within the retail industry have given Joystiq similar intel from other retailers hinting at the same rumor. Check out the flyer in the gallery below.

all you have to do is find someone on craigslit to trade with. i traded a psp for a ps3 with a friend, then traded that ps3 since i had one for a 360 with hdmi, 120 gb hdd, and a falcon chip, and then im trading my old 360 for a wii with wi fit and not paying a cent to own all 3 systems. so thats how ya do it guys. save your money for games and trade stuff others want for what they have you want. works great.

@tony
Did you start out with a red paperclip?
Mark @ Aug 21st 2008 9:53AM
Cool! I was thinking about get a new one but if I buy the 60GB model can I switch the HDD out with my current 120 and everything will still work fine on both 360's?
DBoyFlex @ Aug 21st 2008 9:59AM
yes
vidGuy @ Aug 21st 2008 9:52AM
I just want a 60GB to 120GB hard drive for less than $100. Hopefully these price drops will be joined by the HDD.
Neil @ Aug 21st 2008 10:54AM
Totally with ya man....what MS is charging for the 20gb and the 120gb is a crime.
Saeth @ Aug 21st 2008 9:54AM
From the looks of the ad it seems its just a deal from RS.
The "9/7/08-9/20/08" and "Save 50$!" makes it seem that way

Retailers don't typically (pretty much never actually) discount game consoles on their own due to the extremely tight margins on console hardware.
vidGuy @ Aug 21st 2008 2:35PM
Retailers also often put valid dates on their flyers so that they don't have to honor prices outside of those dates. In the case of console deals, the dates shouldn't matter.

Too bad most of us already have a 360. I guess upgrading is ok. Newer HDDs read faster and newer systems load faster, so if you have an extra 200-300 bucks, go for it. Sell the other on on craigs list.
Arsonism @ Aug 21st 2008 10:04AM
I would agree with you, but underneath the price it says was 449. To me that signifies a price drop. The Blu-Ray player has reg. next to the price like it is on sale.
webster1990 @ Aug 21st 2008 10:01AM
If these kind of price cuts come to the UK (i'm not holding my breath) i may have to upgrade my Xbox to an Elite.
DBoyFlex @ Aug 21st 2008 10:01AM
I want a 60 gig drive though. Maybe it will be a good price? Not likely.
Arsonism @ Aug 21st 2008 10:08AM
Sorry my reply comment should have went up one person.
Trunas @ Aug 21st 2008 10:28AM
That deal from dell last week makes me even more happy that I upgraded. I still payed less than 399(349) and sold my old one for 200. I hope these new prices brings us some newbies to pwn in every game possible.
MC Double Def DP @ Aug 21st 2008 10:51AM
lower prices are great! still glad I got my $299 elite from dell.com! Although to be honest it doesn't get much use yet as I still have my Pro. But it is nice to stream divx to the bedroom now.
Rob Cannon @ Aug 21st 2008 1:11PM
Doesn't it seem like the Elite doesn't offer too much anymore? $100 extra for only 60GB doesn't seem like a great buy.
Guibs @ Aug 21st 2008 3:50PM
I've been holding on upgrading my old xbox 360 for an elite for this rumored price drop. I could always get the 120gb hard drive but it runs for 200$ here in Canada. Also, my xbox 360 does NOT have an HDMI connection and this is killing me.
The elite has the HDMI connector, the HDMI cable (50$ value?) and a 120GB hard drive for a possible 400$ Yep, that's pretty much sold to me.
Jared @ Aug 22nd 2008 12:39AM
dude, you can get a GREAT 6 foot hdmi cable that's mostly american made [read: not sweatshop labor]at bluejeancable. c o m for < $20. The markup on cables makes MS' hard drive look like off-brand cereal.
Robert @ Aug 21st 2008 4:02PM
Did you say click to...embiggen?
georgiabulldog02 @ Aug 21st 2008 6:40PM
XAV, you think this is enough of a price cut to justify getting a 2nd XBOX for the bedroom?
Jeffrey Morgan @ Aug 22nd 2008 9:42AM
So, let's review... when the 360 launched, you (essentially - headset, ethernet cable aside) paid $100 for 20Gb. Then when Elite launched, you paid $80 for 100Gb (and an HDMI cable, comparing the Pro to the Elite) or $180 for 120 Gb (compared to the Core).
Now, with this latest price cut, you pay $100 for 60Gb whether upgrading from from the Arcade to the new Pro or from the new Pro to the Elite. Somehow $80 for 100 Gb seems a lot better than $100 for 60Gb. What happened to MS's police of setting the price differences between the consoles on the (rediculoysly inflated) prices of the stand alone HDD?
Chase @ Aug 23rd 2008 1:50AM
Shame it isn't sooner. My 360 is dead and will be out-of-commission for the next few weeks, and I wanted to pick up another 360 (which would later be given to my brother) in the meanwhile.
I guess I'll just buy a PS3.
