X08: Cliff talks Gears 2's 'Seriously 2.0' achievement [update]

While at today's Canadian X08 event, our own Xav de Matos had a chance to chit-chat it up with Epic's Cliff Bleszinski (lucky turd) and learned something very, very interesting about Gears of War 2's achievements. Specifically, Cliff confirmed that Gears 2 will include an upgraded achievement based on Gears of War's original "Seriously" achievement. The freshly new "Seriously 2.0" achievement will require a whopping 100,000 kills to unlock. Yes, you read correctly, 100,000! But fear not, the achievement task isn't what you think, because "Seriously 2.0"'s 100,000 kills come from both single and co-op campaign gaming as well as all multiplayer modes including Horde.

sifer2400 @ Aug 21st 2008 9:39PM
hmm dustin im pretty sure it includes multiplayer beacuse xav just posted an article on joystiQ saying that its gona be a part of both
Ninzono @ Aug 21st 2008 3:16PM
This is just stupidity...............
I cba to play the campaign 500 times to get this achievements!
offday @ Aug 21st 2008 3:16PM
Hopefully this one works.
Mr.ESC @ Aug 21st 2008 3:22PM
It should be Campaign and Multiplayer but at least isn’t online only.
Gears of war achievements were picky since It had to be ranked and it one playlist, WTF? I never got several achievements of Gears 1 because I played different playlists. For some reason 50 sticky grenade kills in Execution and 50 in war zone won’t make a 100 for the achievement.
Now that Co-op was the best thing about Gears 1 so I see myself obtaining these achievements and maybe it will turn the game into an arcade game like TMNT
I miss those games.
offday @ Aug 21st 2008 3:55PM
Yeah. And for some reason my 200 some grenade sticks in ranked warzone weren't good enough for the achievement either.
Oh that's right. Epic never fixed it. I love Gears as much as anyone here, but it pisses me off that Epic didn't bother to fix the last achievements, and now they're going to to up the seriously achievement by 90,000 kills? Why would anyone even achieve that? Especially considering that the last seriously achievement was broken. Can you imagine how pissed people are going to be when they reach their 100,000 kill and no achievement pops up?
joeybeast @ Aug 21st 2008 3:23PM
Seriously?
Heather @ Aug 21st 2008 3:29PM
The... frak...???
Eddy @ Aug 21st 2008 3:43PM
LMAOOOOOOOO
god this is just so 'effin crazy that all I can do is laughhhhhh.
but i do wish they would mix campaign and MP, cuz i dont wanna play the campaign 6,000 times.
AnthonyGalindoX @ Aug 21st 2008 3:44PM
Although it is more than the first game's 10,000 kills this one seems more attainable. Now I don't have to deal with all the jerks that play online and instead get to focus on what interests me most: single-player.
Alex @ Aug 22nd 2008 11:45AM
Finally!
I found someone who cares more about story and single player than multiplayer!
That's why I hate Team Fortress 2. And Shadowrun.
emirabal @ Aug 21st 2008 3:46PM
Ok, lets estimate here, im gonna say you kill about 1000 guys in gow 1 campaign, what do you guys concur?? so you would have to play the campaing 10 times and horde mode 20 times maybe, now, i played the campaign about 6-7 times and online i only have 1000 kills at that (i dont play ranked that much) so its not like its not doable but it sounds pretty hectic.
Unless the krill count towards those kills, then i would say that is awesome, because you can keep repeating that chapter over and over and over and over and over again.
All i want is an accurate system that keeps track of it and we will be fine, it seems like it will be offline tracking which helps tremendously. How many krill did i kill in part 1, thats the real question.
Rick @ Aug 21st 2008 3:48PM
Horde mode must count towards this.
wickedpheonix @ Aug 21st 2008 3:50PM
Damn.... 100,000 is definitely serious :P
still though, with the new mode that has waves of enemies slamming against you I figure more than a few people pick this up pretty quick. It better be worth like 200 GS though.
Frosty22 @ Aug 21st 2008 3:52PM
Wicket you beat me to it! :)
Frosty22 @ Aug 21st 2008 3:50PM
Well you know they have that new arcade-style coop mode where you and 3 other players just battle onslought after onslought of Locus - this achievement is probably meant to be achieved through this mode.
Ryan Hartman @ Aug 21st 2008 4:04PM
That's kind of crappy actually. I liked having seriously the way it was in the first one.
I got all the other achievements pretty quickly but seriously was one that was always out there, ya know? My white whale.
It was something that was slowly grinded out, so when I'd play with my freinds in multiplayer and it was a crappy match or something, in the back of my mind I'm just like "well at least that counted towards my seriously."
I really hope they put something multiplayer related that will take a long time to get similar to the first seriously in the sequel. It got me to keep playing for a long time, I thought it was a good move in terms of replay-ability on thier part.
Vcize @ Aug 21st 2008 4:09PM
Why so serious?
Akukami @ Aug 21st 2008 4:45PM
I'm just glad they include campaign mode. Here's to hopeing they include the new Horde mode and the actually unlock the achievement it isn't 113,000 or something like it is in Gears 1.
CyberKnight @ Aug 21st 2008 4:29PM
I still want to see a "Surely you can't be serious" achievement, just so someone can put out an "I am serious, and don't call me Shirley" achievement next.
Anticrawl @ Aug 21st 2008 4:44PM
*pops his head in* I just want to tell you both good luck. We're all counting on you.
Instead of Seriously 2.0 they should have called it Seriously II: The Sequel haha.
Ithilis @ Aug 22nd 2008 7:24AM
Win one for the Gipper!
Anticrawl @ Aug 21st 2008 4:41PM
Thank god I don't have to play the shitty ranked matches for achievements this time around. I hope none of them required ranked play, and if they do I better be allowed to bring friends and not have the match end any time someone leaves.
JBurton @ Aug 21st 2008 7:47PM
Ive only played the Halo 3 campaign a few times and I only have...
Enemies KIA 3,807
>.
Conor @ Aug 21st 2008 8:24PM
Hmm you might think you'd have to play the campaign a million times but what about that horde mode they were talking about?
And would you co-op partners kills go towards the achievement as well?
How much gamerscore is this one worth?
Aero @ Aug 21st 2008 9:44PM
I would have no issue with Seriously if it wasn't for it being ranked only. Whenever I play a game only, 90% of the time I play with friends.
MDJ2010 @ Aug 22nd 2008 2:44AM
What's the worry? Surely it's going to include the new Locust Horde game aswell, that sounds like we'll be notching up a LOT of kills in that one. 100, 000 Kills? Bring it on, Seriously!
Boff @ Aug 22nd 2008 6:00AM
I might actually actually be able to get this one!
As others have said, there were too many problems with multiplayer and the associated achievements in Gears.
But looking forward to Horde mode with a friend!
I'll get my 100k kills eventually!
xX Crcusfrk Xx @ Aug 22nd 2008 4:17PM
I've never had a problem getting an achievment on my 360.. What are all you people complaining about.. If you ever have a problem erase your profile from your hard drive then recover it from xbox live now play your game and boom you have your achievment.. I don't care how many times I have to play a game to get a achievment I will get it 100,000 kills 2 million doesn't matter man up or sell your system don't be a panzy poodle boys.. See you all at any MLG if you dare.
