X08: Gears 2 DLC to ship 'soon' after game release
In a recent X08 interview with Cliff Bleszinski, our Joystiq compadres learned some information regarding Gears of War 2's planned downloadable content. Most importantly, that it's currently in the works and will ship "very soon within' the [Gears of War 2] launch timeframe."Mr. Bleszinski confirmed that the Gears 2 DLC will be "multiplayer map focused" and will make its release within the magical Gears 2 release window timeframe. As far as pricing goes, Epic isn't saying much, which is totally understandable seeing the controversy surrounding the original Gears DLC was probably a giant headache to deal with. Gears 2 DLC is being worked on and confirmed for release within the launch timeframe. Huzzah!

Haha free. That's a good one.

People complaining that it should be on the disc if it's ready by launch day in 3...2...
Gemini Ace @ Aug 22nd 2008 11:53AM
Unless it's free DLC, then it should be on the disc. Don't make stuff and hold it out to charge for later.

I think that is just a travesty of justice because obviously this said DLC could probably ship with the game. Just another case of a company nickel and dime-ing its customers.
Chris Rackley @ Aug 22nd 2008 1:36PM
I'll disagree completely. Gears 2 is shipping with 12 maps. TWELVE MAPS! That's very worthy of a launch lineup of maps. If they're currently working on a few now to drop sometime around Christmas, what's really to complain about? Yeah, it'd be great if it's free - but we all know that it won't be . . . but how can we rightfully get angry when we're getting such a huge package out of the box.
If they only shipped with 6 maps, I can see where it would be worth complaining about.

Epic is notoriously the complete OPPOSITE of a nickel and dime type company. Either the DLC will be free, or it won't be done in time.
Regardless, I don't really care, because with as much time as I've spent with Gears 1 this game will be worth a looooooooooooooooooot more than 60 bucks, and I feel kind of wrong paying the same amount for Gears that I did for games like Madden and Resistance.
Plus, the game will ship with 12 maps, which is already a lot for a retail disc.

I'll bet the first DLC includes at least 2 remakes of Gears 1 maps, too.
If I have to pay for them, I don't really care.

Is it just me or companies are actually charging more for games 59.99 + $10.00 DLC = $69.99?
If the game is not out there yet and you already have a dlc plan soon after it ships that means you just wanna exploit the DLCs profitability in multiplayer games.
I just hope the game actually has more than just 3 or 4 maps when it comes out.
Rick @ Aug 22nd 2008 12:19PM
12 maps on disc. 10 new, 2 remakes of Gears 1 maps.
bigmac375 @ Aug 22nd 2008 12:20PM
not buying it. no fucking way i am buying it.
JSBeckerist @ Aug 22nd 2008 2:27PM
and that's your right as a consumer
MDJ2010 @ Aug 22nd 2008 12:31PM
They can charge what they like, I will personally pay for them as I know they will be played enough for it to be worth it. And of course the old rule applies that if you don't want them then don't buy them.
Manny @ Aug 22nd 2008 3:25PM
They always say that....
Orphik x @ Aug 22nd 2008 1:19PM
HUZZAH!

Buy Gears of War 2 for 60 quid?
And in 2 weeks pay another 10 quid for some content pulled from the disc to release as DLC.
Clever but scabby way to make extra cash from a game that's already virtually guaranteed to sell through the roof.
Tom @ Aug 22nd 2008 10:11PM
That's why they're doing it Conor. They know there's enough Gears-Sheep out there that will gladly pay any price for more maps. still, 12 maps on the disc isn't bad at all.
Robert @ Aug 23rd 2008 11:26AM
If the maps are launching in the time frame of the games launching, why would Epic bother going through the hoops they did last time for the maps?
If they truly want it to be free, then they would attempt to get the maps onto the disc.
