BC Rearmed week one sales exceed 100K
Well good lord. After its first week of availability, Bionic Commando Rearmed has sold 130,000 copies. Capcom's own Ben Judd reported the news on the Bionic Commando blog with the appropriate fervor, saying, "Holy fiddlesticks!" He followed up his elation saying that while the sales pale in comparison to retail titles, 130,000 copies qualifies Rearmed as a "JUGGERNAUT." One of the important and overlooked elements of this story is that Rearmed was made available on Xbox Live Arcade, PSN and PC, so we're not sure exactly what percentage each service pulled. Regardless it's obvious that Rearmed has struck a chord and Judd notes that this proves that gamers do enjoy seeing the games of yesteryear made available again, so long as they are "done right" and for the right price. We couldn't agree more.

But it's dump...
Magic Whiskey @ Aug 25th 2008 7:06PM
What are they #2 and #3, respectively? I wonder how Castlevania SOTN, REZ, Braid and UNO have done in comparison as well.
dylan @ Aug 25th 2008 7:11PM
Now here is a purchase I regret, once I got past the first couple of stages, this game gets IMPOSSIBLE! It would be ten times better if it featured the Braid rewind function.
BIGFAT @ Aug 25th 2008 7:19PM
what difficulty are you playing on?
Normal is the funnest and has a nice balance to the difficulty,
GANNONSMASH @ Aug 25th 2008 7:29PM
Try easy mode. There a a bunch of blocks added to protect you from spikes, make some swings easier, etc.
Neuromancer @ Aug 25th 2008 7:50PM
Even on easy? That stinks. I played on easy since I heard how hard it was, but I haven't gotten very far.
Deuce @ Aug 25th 2008 9:38PM
Sure must suck to... well, suck.
BananaBoat @ Aug 25th 2008 10:33PM
It's not that we suck, it's just a hard gameplay mechanic. Not being able to jump really adds an arbitrary level of difficulty, and it really is an unforgiving game. Then again, most games used to be unforgiving (ex. Mario the lost levels. Holy crap was that hard) so it's nice in a nostalgic sort of way. My earliest gaming memories consist of me sitting there for hours failing over and over at Contra, Bionic Commando, etc. Ahhhhh the memories....Aaaaaah the 90'ssssss how I miss ye.
dicknjane @ Aug 25th 2008 7:14PM
this game is fantastic. theres alot of content in there, and the price is great! i highly reccomend this to anyone who has a few MS points needin a home.
BIGFAT @ Aug 25th 2008 7:16PM
if you look at the leaderboads for the first level of the game its a good way to indicated sales.
Last i check they had 30,000 people on the leaderboads in the first 3 days for the 360 version.
Porkfist @ Aug 25th 2008 8:04PM
Although I completely suck at the game, I am having a great time with it. I'm glad it's doing well, and I hope the retail release is just as fun
DarkFOG @ Aug 25th 2008 8:16PM
I usualy prefer new game then rehash, but this game is definitly an excellent remake and I love the secrets they added and of course it gets even better when playing co-op!
joeybeast @ Aug 25th 2008 8:24PM
after having trouble acquire the shotgun in demo. I decided against purchasing it.
Adam @ Aug 25th 2008 9:40PM
great game! not too hard (I'm playing on normal right now), not too easy. Updated enough so it's new yet strangely retro, the perfect mix.
And the price is perfect!
JohNey @ Aug 25th 2008 9:22PM
i love bionic commando
goin to finish it in second time ( in normal )
i tried in hard cant even finish the first level ....
BIGFAT @ Aug 25th 2008 11:33PM
does anyone think they will do a rearmed sequel i want a new side stroller already
ZeroCorpse @ Aug 25th 2008 11:38PM
It's better than that lame-ass Mario clone, Braid. But I still didn't want to pay for it. I'm waiting for Arcade games to not be rinky-dink throwbacks, remakes, or puzzle games.
If they're going to keep doing remakes, they could at least start doing the more hard-to-find titles, like:
Jumpman
Jumpman Jr.
Law of the West
Way of the Exploding Fist
Maniac Mansion/Day of the Tentacle
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
Mail Order Monsters (NEEDS to be remade!)
Racing Destruction Set
Archon I, II
Fantasy Empires
Phantasie I, II, III
Dark Legions
Starcraft
Raid on Bungling Bay
Impossible Mission
The Castles of Doctor Creep (online play, please)
Star Control II / Ur-Quan Masters
Seriously. How many times do we need the same overplayed arcade games remade?
If you really want to impress me, remake some of the old Atari 2600, Odyssey2, and Intellivision games:
K.C. Munchkin (complete with construction set)
Quest for the Rings
COMBAT
Dragonfire
Haunted House
E.T. (just kidding)
Discs of Tron
Dark Cavern
Dungeons & Dragons by Mattel™
Showdown
Kill The Attacking Aliens
Pick Axe Pete
Demon Attack
I could go on... The point is that they're mining all the standard games (Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Centipede, Galaga, Root Beer Tapper, etc.) and a few NES favorites (Super Mario Bros, Castlevania, Bionic Commando, etc.) but not doing anything with these classics that haven't been touched since the 1980s... And they have a huge audience of people who would dig in for nostalgia's sake.
Missed opportunity.

Don't be an idiot. Calling Braid a "Mario clone" makes me want to ignore the rest of your post.
It's important to note that you can criticize Braid all you want, but calling it a Mario clone tells me that you haven't even played the game. You heard something about a princess, saw a platformer, and decided to make an idiotic comment.
CL34N3R @ Aug 26th 2008 2:28AM
I want a Ghouls & Ghosts remake, but you can keep Missile Command and Centipede. I hope this doesn't spur another round of crap 2600 remakes. Some games should be remade, not all of them. BC is doing well because it has always been a great game, not because it's retro.
Goroke @ Aug 26th 2008 2:37AM
I played the demo and I thought it was great. It might be little bit difficult because of the fact that you can't jump at all, but that's where all the charm is at :P.
Oh ya. Screw this, buy Castle Crashers :D jkjk
Procris @ Aug 26th 2008 3:41AM
They may have sold a lot but my big question is whether or not they will actually make any of the money back on this and turn a profit. It does seem like this game had a lot of effort put into it. Though the dpad sucks.
drdre74 @ Aug 26th 2008 10:09AM
I'm glad the game is selling well. But why does it matter how many it sold on each platform. Just be happy people are buying it so maybe they'll do another game.
I DeX I @ Aug 26th 2008 1:11PM
I'm as sick of hearing Braid is a Mario clone as the next guy. What would be so bad about a well done and thought out Mario clone on XBLA? I'm dying for some pure 2d Side-scrolling action. I wish someone would make a good Mario clone for the XBLA.
Bob @ Aug 26th 2008 1:34PM
Finally had the time to sit down and beat it on normal last night. I loved this game when I was younger and have had a blast reliving it again. Glad to see others are buying in as well.
