Kmart adscan gives us more 360 price cut proof
Adding to our mountain of September Xbox 360 price cut proof that we've constructed over the past few weeks, today we bring you yet another piece of adscan evidence. Pictured to the right (sorry, it's a tiny lil' image) is a supposed Kmart retail adscan from the week of September 7th that lists the rumored Xbox 360 console price cuts: $199 for an Arcade, $299 for a Pro and $399 for an Elite. Yes sir, we're now 97.45% sure a hardware price cut is going to happen in a few weeks ... so get excited or something.[Thanks, AshTR]

I wonder what's going to happen to any remaining 20GB 360s. I've still seen them. Will they drop to $250? Maybe Target will go clearance crazy and start by discounting them 30% to $210.
Joel @ Aug 25th 2008 11:22AM
Last year Microsoft had a lot of games to make it competitive but this year they are going all out with price cuts.....I feel sad for Sony....Does not look to have a fighting chance for the holiday season.
Gamerschoice @ Aug 25th 2008 12:16PM
I'm sure Sony will drop the price of the PS2 by $10.00 just to compensate for Microsoft's price drop.
"Sure, the 360 might be newer and has more features, but the PS2 still has the most games on any system! And you can get them cheap!"
LOL...Sony.
Mike @ Aug 25th 2008 1:51PM
Am I the only non-360 fanboy here? Never mind, this site is called 360 fanboy...just noticed it.
Simon @ Aug 25th 2008 11:26AM
Good thing, had to sell my 20GB two months ago for $300 and now i can get a new one for the same price with 40 more GBs
Sinnix @ Aug 25th 2008 11:25AM
I think it's important to note that none of these ads we're seeing say anything about the motion controllers we're hearing so many rumors about.
Kevin Gass @ Aug 25th 2008 11:55AM
Agree'd If they were shipping with them they would have a big point in the AD
The Beta Max @ Aug 25th 2008 12:11PM
EXCELLENT point. The motion controller rumor is punk, at least in regards to the new lower priced Arcade SKU
Caboose @ Aug 25th 2008 11:29AM
i dunno why people dont believe it.. its been 299.99 and 399.99 in canada here for weeks.... me and my old roomie went out to future shop and got the 60gb system that came with Gears and Tony Hawk Project 8 for 299.99
Caboose @ Aug 25th 2008 11:30AM
scratch that.. i know why it was 299.99.. my bad
Magic Whiskey @ Aug 25th 2008 11:35AM
I'm upgrading my 20GB Pro to the 60GB Pro very soon so all of these 'rumors' are great news to hear about.
Chris @ Aug 25th 2008 11:44AM
Aw, and I only picked up the 20GB for $299 a month ago. If I knew the drop would have happened so quickly I would have waited.
Ysleiro @ Aug 25th 2008 11:54AM
Check the return policy at the store you bought it.
I know Circuit City and Best Buy will give you up to 2 months to return the item sometimes.
Ysleiro @ Aug 25th 2008 11:54AM
The Pro should be $250 and the elite $350.
The only difference between the pro and arcade is the darned HDD come on MS "stop hitting line drives and hit one out the park !!".
Shape @ Aug 25th 2008 12:20PM
The Arcade doesn't include a high definition video cable.
The Pro includes a component HD video cable.
The Elite includes a component HD video cable and an HDMI cable and the optical audio output dongle.
jorgiex @ Aug 25th 2008 3:02PM
I hate to tell you that the Arcade bundle doesn't come with a MIC. I know that the mics go for 19.99 but you have to be more specific when you shout out false information. lol Not to mention the ugly white DVD draw cover. There is no chrome on the Arcade madel as well. I need my chrome. Hehehe...Oh wait I have an Elite.
Ysleiro @ Aug 25th 2008 12:29PM
@Shape: My friend, I understand there are those differences.
But lets be honest. HDMI and Optical cables should be shipped with every console.
HDMI cables are cheap, 5-15 bucks.
Optical out??? come on !!! that's probably worth 2 dollars at most !!
The true difference in pricing is the HDD. MS is being too stingy about this. Those HDD are WAY too overpriced.
(Do not buy Monster cables people !!)
Shape @ Aug 25th 2008 12:52PM
I think that the essence of the thing is that the hard drives are key differentiators between the different products. And the lack of a hard drive is why they can price the Arcade so LOW relative to the price of the Pro and Elite.
The Arcade is a value leader in the marketplace at $199. And I wouldn't be surprised at all if they are losing money on every Arcade sold at $199. But they hope to make some of that up later on with hard drive sales.
If you could just go and plug any old newegg hard drive into the thing, they wouldn't be able to price the Pro and the Elite at levels that will generate them profit.
You can complain all you want about the price difference of the 3 consoles and the price of the accessories, but the 360 is still the cheapest current gen console on the market at these new prices. And that is bound to generate some great sales.
Luay @ Aug 25th 2008 1:44PM
if you know someone at futureshop you can get monster cables for like 12 bucks
mark @ Aug 25th 2008 6:55PM
@shape
last i checked when i went with a friend for his arcade he got rca/component cable in the box and it has a hdmi port.
hdmi is 5-15$ and most people already have one.
and a hdd only costs about $50 for a 20GB which i wouldnt mind putting on a arcade.
the only other diff is the chrome drive which i personally think chrome is ugly. and a headset i saw for 10$
and i believe to make a 360 only costs microsoft 130-150$ but thats just a guess.
BluesmanTLU @ Aug 25th 2008 11:59AM
This is good news for me as well. My first Xbox had its' death knell this Saturday, so I picked up an Arcade to replace it because I'm rich and rich people do not wait (j/k).
30 day price match!

K-Mart ran out of business a long time ago where I live
Mrblonde @ Aug 26th 2008 1:41AM
Still gots one near me =)
reguy @ Aug 25th 2008 12:11PM
I like rumors like these. I know I am not the first to point this out but why is the elite 400? It should be 350. I mean arcade(200) + 120 gb drive (150 - super overpriced but thats another story) = 350.
Whats the extra 50? Because its black and comes with an hdmi cable? I bought one from buy.com for 5 bucks, works perfect so it must be cuz its black I guess. Any thoughts from you guys?
Shape @ Aug 25th 2008 12:41PM
The Arcade is priced so low to spur growth in a section of the market that the 360 has yet to jump into. The Arcade also doesn't include any HD video cable whatsoever.
The Elite includes both the HD component cable ($40) and an HDMI cable and the optical audio output dongle ($50). In retail, the only place you can get the optical audio output dongle is in the $50 XBox HDMI cable. A lot of people still use optical audio with HDMI.
And yes, the Elite is the only place to get a black 360.
And the Elite is usually bundled with a couple full games.
Rich @ Aug 25th 2008 12:13PM
I want to see some Canadian ads so to know if I should exchange my 20GB I just got on Saturday for a 60GB.
LongshotX @ Aug 25th 2008 12:27PM
Does anyone know anything about the update Microsoft was suppose to do in June to address the problems with XBLA DRM? I would like a 60GB but I want to be able to play the games I purchased offline.
jorgiex @ Aug 25th 2008 12:32PM
You can play you XBL arcade game offline. Once you download it just log out and you will still play all game and get all achievments without any problems. But you friends wont see them untill you log into Live. The DRM is so that you can't give the games to another friend's system. So you will need to be logged in your friends 360 with your live account if you want to play the full game at his house.
Shape @ Aug 25th 2008 12:45PM
Yes, they fixed that issue. Go here and follow the instructions:
http://www.xbox.com/support/systemuse/xbox360/licensemigration/?WT.svl=nav
LongshotX @ Aug 25th 2008 1:26PM
Thank you so much Shape.
Shadoom @ Aug 25th 2008 1:33PM
If the primary issue is because of retail price for hard drives, I'm pretty sure you can find someone selling them online for quite a fraction of that cost, just need to be wary of scammers.
Its always good to have competition to get these prices lower, once Sony follows suit, I might consider a ps3, but at the moment, gonna see what happens :)
xSynysterx @ Aug 25th 2008 1:38PM
Word in the electronics department at Wal-Mart is that the regular PS3 80Gig will be back at $399. Heard it from the manager over that area.
Shape @ Aug 25th 2008 1:42PM
The 80GB PS3 without any back compatibility with PS2 games is already at $399. They basically took a 40GB PS3, took out the 40GB drive, removed the Spider Man Blu-Ray from the package and put in an 80GB drive. And they left the price where the 40GB price was.
They are introducing a 160GB PS3 at $499. Again, it is basically the old 40GB model with a hard drive upgrade and a couple games in the package.
They have abandoned backwards compatibility with the PS2 altogether.
Luay @ Aug 25th 2008 1:48PM
when does this occur in Canada?? Because im selling my 20gb + 2 games for 200 bucks and so i can get this deal
Saeth @ Aug 25th 2008 2:27PM
I just got a ad in the newspaper the other day showing the 360 pro at 299$ (even says it was 50$ more)
Ranger V @ Aug 27th 2008 12:13PM
huh, thought it was already announced... I went to three gamestops looking for an old game i couldnt find, and they all had a "New low price $299" sign right next to the 360 display console.
blank964 @ Aug 25th 2008 4:03PM
Lucky bastards, I bought my 20GB last year at Christmas. Oh well hopefully it means that more people will go out and buy one.
AshTR @ Aug 26th 2008 12:31AM
This has apparently confused too many people.
The $300 360 right now is the 20 gig. It's the whole firesale thing. They're going to bring the 60 gig down to that same $300 if this price drop happens.
emirabal @ Aug 26th 2008 10:00AM
I might just buy a spare one for the house, just coop it off of ebay, bc realistically, everyone is going to get rid of the core systems and put it on ebay to get the new elites, and i will scoop a cheap one, holla.
