Newell: Left 4 Dead delayed a few weeks

During a Leipzig video interview with Gamekings, Valve's own Gabe Newell broke some depressing Left 4 Dead release date news, making mention that the game will not release on November 4th as initially expected. Instead, Left 4 Dead will be releasing on Thursday, November 20th, which (admittedly) is only a few weeks later. But what's up the odd Thursday retail release? Well, the reason (as Mr. Newell points out) is due to the fact that November 20th is the tenth anniversary of Half-Life's release. How freakin' adorable.

yeah definately Gears2 is the main cause. It have potentially hurt L4D sales.

Out of the two, im more excited for L4D because im a big time Zombie movie fan.

PS: And running zombies ftw.

definitely a smart idea because although this game is going to be freaking amazing, gears is taking all my attention for the next 6 months minimum.

Last week, IGN had listed Left 4 Dead as a November 17 release. The 20th is essentially the same thing.

Honestly this helps me out a bit, and I can see it'll help sales of the game in general too.

That three-week window of game releases was already going to break me (Oct 20-Nov 7) what with Dead Space, Fable II, Far Cry II, Fallout III and Gears of War 2 coming out essentially on top of each other.

I agree! I was wondering how I was going to afford all these games. I wish it had been some other game delayed because I've been looking forward to Left 4 Dead for awhile but I guess I'll just have to deal. Gives me time to buy everything in Fable 2.

No kidding... Far Cry wasn't on my radar until I saw the map editor. Don't forget rock band and guitar hero aren't too far away. With all of these games I think it is time that I look into a gamefly membership.

Nice. I won't have to divide my playing time between Mirror's Edge and L4D now. A good week to soak in ME, and a lifetime to plow through the undead in L4D with three of my closest friends.

I remember looking forward to this year's Holiday season back last November, and thinking that there wouldn't be much to be excited about other than the new Gears sequel. Boy, was I wrong!

I do have to say that out of all the games on my short-list, Left 4 Dead wouldn't have been the one I'd have chosen to release the latest, but it's all good I guess.

out of Silent Hill Homecoming, Dead Space, Fable II, Far Cry II, Fallout III, Gears of War 2, Left 4 Dead, Call of Duty: World at War, Mirror's Edge, Quantum of Solace, Lord of The Rings Conquest and Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia on the DS, I would have rather have waited longest for Fable II personally. It kind of has that Olde English, Charles Dickensian feel going for it that would be best suited for a December/Christmas
release as far as I see it.

(Yes, that was my SHORT list this fall.)
