Head Coach demo calls plays on Marketplace
We sort of get the feeling that anyone interested in NFL Head Coach 09 probably already picked it up in the special edition of Madden 09, but for those of you that haven't, there is a demo on Xbox Live Marketplace right now. The standalone version of the game is releasing next week, so if Madden isn't you're cup of tea, you might give the demo a whirl.Besides, armchair quarterbacking is too physically taxing. Armchair coaching is where it's at.
What's new in Madden this year? What's different? Find out what's good (and what's not so good) in our Madden 09 Season Update.

The game is a ton better than the first Head Coach. If you play fantasy football, are a stats freak, or just enjoy doing the contract stuff in Madden, this game is worth checking out. I find myself playing Madden a lot more and I'm glad I picked it up in the special edition instead of paying full price for it, but it's an ok standalone.
Plus, you can design plays and import them into Madden.

I was wondering - how well does the play import work? Is it fairly easy to make decent/effective plays?

Play import is pretty good, but it's not perfect. Pass plays work great, but when you make a run you have to choose from a canned QB+RB action. So you can't adjust what way a QB roles and hands off, or which hole the RB will hit, other than the ~200 choices given. It may seem like a lot but it doesn't work out well. I was trying to make a Triple Option play and it took forever and still didn't run right.
A cool feature I didn't know about before buying the game: you can share plays with other HC players. So you can download a well designed play, then import into Madden.

Wow!!!! A sports update by Richard. Is this some sort of an early Freaky Friday type thing where you switched places with Xav? What can you tell me about Tiger Woods 2009?

Just picked up the special edition for $50 at Target, which is insane considering Madden alone was still priced at $60. It was marked as clearence so someone sure as hell didn't know what they were doing.

Target cleared the version out of their stock this week, it's been all over the web.

Unless you are a stats geek this game is not for you. I consider myself a pretty big football fan but this game is boring for me.

I played the first one on PS2 and I got bored within an hour.
