Silva reviews Dishwasher, falls short of expectations

We're being told that there's this a new shift in our industry for how video game reviews are being done. With old iron side, Peter Molyneux leading the movement, gone are the days where game reviews are done by those who haven't worked on the game, and in are game reviews actually done by the developers themselves.
And following in Molyneux's footsteps is James Silva, The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai creator who figured he'd do his own review of his own game. But before you scream "bias!", understand that most every developer is an honest soul (it's true). This developer honesty can be seen in Silva's review of The Dishwasher, where he gives his own game 1 out of 10, calling it "a mess" admitting that "not only are 2D graphics completely inadequate at capturing our imaginations, but 2D–by definition–is not HD." No truer words have been spoken. Make the jump to read creator James Silva's review of his own game and learn how truly bad it is. Any game that doesn't have a reasonably sized manskirt or nudity is "basically broken."

Nice marketing.
Mr.U2 @ Sep 4th 2008 2:20AM
That's exactly what I was thinking, ha.
Erik Stroud @ Sep 4th 2008 5:20PM
I agree. He basically just guaranteed a bunch of buys, just so people can see if he is lieing. Though, I stil don't expect it to be all that great.
VaultICEE @ Sep 3rd 2008 10:15PM
So uhh... I guess I won't buy it(?)
VaultICEE @ Sep 3rd 2008 10:17PM
Oh wait. X3F sounded more negative than it actually was, for some reason, to me.
Haha, I liked the review.
emirabal @ Sep 3rd 2008 11:01PM
Yeah, his review was more detailed than some i have read in all those magazines i subscribe to (except PLAY, i think they are getting it right finally) he is honest and knows exactly what he means since he is working on it. That being said, it does not mean that every developer CAN review their own game or for that matter SHOULD review their own game, its just to much bias in it.
Seanross @ Sep 3rd 2008 11:10PM
No Nudity, No Sale!
Exo @ Sep 3rd 2008 11:31PM
i dont think he knows the definition of HD if he thinks 2d doesnt apply
SABCA @ Sep 4th 2008 12:25AM
I think he's making a Bad joke at the fact that -2-D is not -H-D, as in, the proceeding letter/number before the D.
It's all very tounge-in-cheek, you have to read the actual "Review" to really get it.
edhc44 @ Sep 4th 2008 10:42AM
God, how hard is it to understand sarcasm?
Kia @ Sep 4th 2008 2:29AM
A 2-D hater? BE GONE.
Magic Whiskey @ Sep 4th 2008 3:21AM
Yeah I'd take anyone to mat for complaining that 2-D isn't for the HD era, or that 2-D gaming is limited. That's like saying that playing games on a tv is a waste of time because we haven't hit the holographic entertainment format yet. Bull.
Any gamer that's over the age of 20 knows the benefits of 2D gaming for sure, and those younger than 20 have had ample chance to school themselves on what they missed out on when it was new. I mean, look at XBLA alone: Castle Crashers, Pac-Man Championship Edition, Castlevania Symphony of The Night, Bionic Commando Rearmed (looks 3D but plays in a 2D flavored world)...I could go on and on.
Mario for god sakes. Super effing Mario. Tetris? 99% of all the games in the arcades we played growing up?
I mean..jeeze. 2D has a place!
True game developers are artists I feel, and if the developer had a vision that 2D couldn't express, then fine; I see that as an artist needing to paint with oils but all he had was acrylic. I get it and I respect that.
But to say 2D isn't viable anymore is just wrong.
Look at Castlevania anymore; it was terrible in 3D. A lot of people would argue that most fighters should stay 2D, too.
Just because 3D is the new big 'step', that doesn't mean it's right for everything. I know it exists, but I would never want to play a 3D Monopoly game. I could care less about playing a 3D Pac-Man either. Hell, I still haven't seen or played a decent Batman game that gave Bats a proper 3D cape yet..
Boff @ Sep 4th 2008 5:00AM
Deep breaths now Mr Whiskey. James Silva's review is written with tounge firmly in cheek.
He wasn't bashing 2D, quite the opposite ;o)
Aaron @ Sep 4th 2008 9:02AM
RELAX people, its just shameless self-promotion. Good job James the game looks great and the XNA demo was a blast !
Adam @ Sep 4th 2008 9:23AM
As was said, please read the review before commenting seriously about the above article.
Just click on the picture of Silva. Go ahead. Do it now. We'll wait.
Awesome review and only increases my interest in this game. I'll be buying it regardless though since hopefully all profits will go towards creating his next Survival Crisis Z game.
Neuromancer @ Sep 4th 2008 11:34AM
I'm not amused. It would have been a lot more interesting if it had been a serious self critique and not a throw away joke. That being said, the fact that some people are taking it seriously (probably without having actually looked at it) is kind of funny.
victor360hd @ Sep 4th 2008 11:44AM
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BUYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!
Loban @ Sep 4th 2008 12:37PM
Umm for those who havne't figured it out yet or haven't actually read the "review". IT'S A JOKE!! The "review" is all sarcasm. Some of the faults that he points out is the game doesn't let you wash dishes, and it's in 2D which isn't HD. Both of which are obvious jokes.
Jonman @ Sep 4th 2008 12:50PM
I'm confused. Surely, if you're wearing a manskirt, then you're not nude?
projectdecember @ Sep 4th 2008 5:50PM
That is a wireless controller hes juss recharging it.
Ninjacrank @ Sep 5th 2008 10:20AM
I'm pretty sure a large number of the comments here have given me cancer. I'll be sending you my medical bills.
