Activision has announced that well-known artists Sting and Tool will appear in
Guitar Hero World Tour. Sting will be available as a selectable character in the vocal career mode. He will also appear in the game to perform The Police's "
Demolition Man." Activision also announced that popular rock group (and makers of
scary music videos) Tool will lend three songs to the game, "
Parabola" and "
Schism" from the album
Lataralus along with "
Vicarious" from
10,000 Days. In addition to contributing these tracks, Tool will also help design a venue for the game "highlighting the art style that has become a staple in their music videos, live shows and album artwork." So, in other words, it should be the freakiest venue ever, right?

Damnit, Guitar Hero automatically wins this year. Anything TOOL tagged is FTW.
Big Bird @ Sep 5th 2008 3:23PM
They ruled the last time I saw them live, well ok maybe not, maynard never came to the front of the stage he was in the back behind his band in very low light, very poor performance, sound was bad etc. Place actually cleared out before the show was over. So I have to agree to disagree, havent like much since aienima
MrKniceGuy @ Sep 5th 2008 3:31PM
This is the greatest news ever to grace music genre games. TooL rules!!!
Maynard101 @ Oct 30th 2008 4:49PM
I agree... I wasn't going to get it, but they have TOOL and Van Halen. Since they are my 2 favorite bands, I have no choice but to make the purchase.
Josh @ Sep 5th 2008 3:00PM
Holy fuck. Tool. That just chose what game I'm buying this autumn.
Tyr1n @ Sep 5th 2008 3:01PM

GHWT = Fail
GHWT+tool < RB2

Ditto. I was thinking the exact same thing. I love Tool (and anything Maynard does), but I still have no desire to ever buy, or even play, GH:WT. I bought GH3 for the extra guitar, and I hate the game with a passion. Rock Band wins quite easily in my book.
Adam @ Sep 5th 2008 3:13PM
There was a list awhile back of songs that were reported as fake for GH World Tour. I remember seeing 3 songs on there from Tool. I wonder if we'll be seeing any more of the bands that were on that "fake" list showing up.
Paul @ Sep 5th 2008 3:44PM
that is exactly what i was wondering. i went back and found that story and noticed it also mentioned sting in it but it was a guitar battle with him while this story says it will be for vocals. also, only one of the three tool songs in the supposed leaked list shows up here in this story. here is the link:

Mighty Healthy @ Sep 5th 2008 3:15PM
Would have loved ANYTHING from Ænima. DLC, maybe? One can only hope.
Either way, GH:WT has my dollar.
Josh @ Sep 5th 2008 11:00PM
Eulogy, Stinkfist, jimmy, H., or Forty-Six and 2 please.
Frank @ Sep 5th 2008 3:16PM
Adding TOOL just made this a must buy for me.
Neuromancer @ Sep 5th 2008 3:27PM
Holy shit they got Bill Murray in this game too??!
petrov @ Sep 6th 2008 7:44PM

Am I the only person in the world who wishes that they could filter out all Guitar Hero/Rock Band/ news from the world? Due respect the games are popular, but is it really news that "aging rocker of the day" or "desperately seeking mainstream audience band" decides to add their music to a title in search of more money?
Lewis (RROD: July 16) @ Sep 5th 2008 3:47PM
Come on man, You say it like money is such a bad thing. It's what makes all of us keep moving in life. I'm sure if you were an artist and you were given this chance of a lifetime, You'd take it for the cash, recognition and whatever else.
And TOOL isn't DESPERATELY seeking mainstream audience. They have the talent and their music has a very f'in large fanbase, consisting of people who JUST like their work, not just specific chart topping songs. I've never met a TOOL fan say they liked Undertow and hated Lateralus. If you follow their history and actually KNOW about them, Maynard James Keenan is one of the only musicians lately who hates to be involved with ANYTHING.
Dano @ Sep 5th 2008 5:32PM
Not at all - money is great. It enabled me to replace my XB Dash update-caused RRoD 20GB with an Elite! Nor am I saying Tool is in search of a mainstream audience. I am merely generalizing that every time there is a whisper of new DLC for GH or RB, there is a news story. It's becoming like Engadget and the iPhone (sure I'll get flamed for that one). It's just become too much noise in the world of video games - make a dedicated site for the GH & RB fans - a'la WoW Insider - to let the actual news items get through.
Lewis (RROD: July 16) @ Sep 5th 2008 6:44PM
I get ya.
dunnypop @ Sep 5th 2008 3:42PM
damn it. Guitar Hero has Tool and Metallica...
but still Rock Band 2 > Guitar Hero... unless GUitar Hero has somekind of better Tour mode. doubt it though.
Doll @ Sep 5th 2008 4:10PM
I don't know why they'd even bother with Sting. Worth getting it for Tool though.
monkeymonkeymonkey @ Sep 5th 2008 4:11PM
Holy shit. Guitar Hero (Activition) might just kick Rock Band 2 ass! Tool...YES! I love the idea of a Tool inspired venue. The leaked setlist that going around months ago might just be true...
ChewyDogg @ Sep 5th 2008 4:28PM
"Tool will also help design a venue for the game "highlighting the art style that has become a staple in their music videos, live shows and album artwork."
Eyeballs and flames!!
Kevin @ Sep 5th 2008 5:22PM
Solidified it as a insta-buy for me. Tool, Hendrix, Metallica, etc. RB2 better have an ace up it's sleeve or they just might lose come this holiday season. Check out www.fourtheye.net for supposed pics of Tool in GH:WT.
Andrew @ Sep 5th 2008 5:34PM
A friend of mine (who is a mega-Tool fan and hates GH) said this day would never come...he said Maynard would never sell out for a video game...
I just sent him a text telling him he looks kind of foolish now...
Tann @ Sep 5th 2008 5:37PM
yay
i love guitarr heroo=]
Tegolin @ Sep 5th 2008 5:50PM
Is Tool that amazing that nearly everyone wants it? Do people really want to imitate playing a song that much?
Everywhere I go "What, Tool is in the game, now I HAVE to buy it!"
Andrew @ Sep 5th 2008 6:41PM
From the comments on this story...it kinda looks that way.
Justin D @ Sep 5th 2008 8:04PM
Us loooongtime Tool fans… yeah, we'd buy the full game just for the Tool content. =D
VeHeMeNcE @ Sep 5th 2008 9:25PM
I'm hoping RB2 gets Tool DLC because even though I'm a big Tool fan, it won't make me want to buy GH:WT. Rock Band/Harmonix is far more superior IMO.
