Deals: Free MS points with 360 purchase, $15 games and more

It's time to page through the weekly retail adds to uncover a few special Xbox 360 deals. And just in case you forgot, all Xbox 360 consoles have seen a price cut where Arcades are $199, 60GB Pros are $299 and 120GB Elites are $399. If you're going to take advantage of the new price cut, we advise heading over to Circuit City where they'll toss in a free 1600 Microsoft point card with any console purchase. They're also selling GRAW2, Saints Row and Dead Rising for $15 and giving away a free tshirt and $10 gift card with the purchase of Force Unleashed. Sadly, neither Best Buy or Target have any 360 deals worth mentioning. Then again, who needs 'em anyway? Happy spending!

Price matching?
h0mi @ Sep 8th 2008 4:24AM
Hard to PM deals like this. Not impossible but very YMMV and most managers won't do it.
josh @ Sep 8th 2008 11:39AM
If they were going to price match I think your local Circuit City has to have it in stock also. I tried getting Best Buy to price match the CoD4 deal they had at Circuit City (free CoD3 with purchase). My local Circuit City was out though so they screwed me out of the deal. They would have though. It does depend on the manager like the guy said too.
RockerAnimeFreak @ Sep 7th 2008 11:17AM
Its about time I picked up GRAW 2.
dicknjane @ Sep 7th 2008 12:39PM
same here. i'll pick up saint row as well. great deals. great games.
b8am4xx @ Sep 7th 2008 11:34AM
i used to work at best buy, and recently circuit city has had more deals, less people trying to bug the hell out of me when i go there, and has good stock (at least here) on xbox games. the only crappy thing that's happened to me there was not having gta4 on a full paid pre-order (they put my copy on the shelf and it sold), but that's something you can chalk up to that individual store. I went to the next circuit city and they gave me the game AND that $10 gift card.
word to the wise: if you try to price match these anywhere else, the store can (and probably will, read the fine print on every ad) refuse it if the other store is not in their area for direct competition AND if the other store does not actually have it in stock. just a tip.

Wow, it's sad how desperate Microsoft is getting. They are scared and should be.
ryan @ Sep 7th 2008 3:50PM
PS2:
Debuted late October 2000 at $299
Prices slashed to $200 in May 2002
Thinner PS2 arrives for $149 in late May 2004
in 2 years time the PS2 cut it's prices by $100 by popular demand. MS is going by this model for the same reasons, so shut the hell up.
dicknjane @ Sep 7th 2008 12:40PM
wow. insecure PS3 fanboy lurking over to 360 site to try and scare us? um, fail.
Kal @ Sep 7th 2008 4:53PM
insecure? LOL PS3 outselling 360 even with price cuts...yeah I'm real insecure...you replying with that? um..fail
Kal @ Sep 7th 2008 4:57PM
oh and as far as a PS3 fanboy lurking over here...nice post on the 5th on the PS3 board..hypocrit
Mrblonde @ Sep 7th 2008 5:06PM
@Kal
Just taking time out of your day and going out of your way to just trash talk on something as insignificant as that is fail.
Mrblonde @ Sep 7th 2008 5:12PM
And the system has been out since 05. The price cuts are not acts of desperation. Its convenience.
Exo @ Sep 8th 2008 12:15AM
um yea, ps3 is definly not ouselling 360.
sorry, but ps3 is full of fail, ihad a ps1 and a ps2 as my main consoles and never gave a shit about xbox, but this gen, sony hasnt given me enough reasons to buytheir system
Devin @ Sep 8th 2008 12:53PM
Exo,
If you already own a 360, being at it's current price ($399/$499), the PS3 will be a very hard sell. IMO most 360 gamers don't need/want what Sony provides with the PS3. You won't see a Halo, Gears or Fable, and you probably don't want care about HD movies and if you do you will probably wait until Netflix offers them over Marketplace. I still feel they provide enjoyable, orginal games, whether AAA or PSN-downloadable, but it's all in the eye of the beholder and according to you they don't have enough to warrant your purchase which is respectable.
Tony @ Sep 7th 2008 12:53PM
The system has been out for almost 3 years now, price cuts seem kind of obvious.
This isn't really a "deal" per se, but places have finally gotten Viva Pinata 2 in... Target's version has some extra cards and a free episode of the show packed in.
Maxwell @ Sep 7th 2008 3:41PM
Hey, thanks guys! I always kinda wanted Dead Rising, but it never seemed worth $59, or even $29. It is certainly worth $14.99 though! I picked it up today!
Chris @ Sep 7th 2008 5:29PM
@Kal,
Only reason PS3 is outselling 360 is because most people have a 360 already.
Anyway, I took advantage of this sale to pick up Saints Row. Fun game. Money well spent.
TheIcemanCometh @ Sep 7th 2008 7:44PM
Let's not forget about those that are buying a PS3 (like myself) because it's a Blu-ray player that happens to play games.
But ... I still haven't bought a game for it yet. Watched and bought PLENTY of BD movies though. :-)
icedemon @ Sep 7th 2008 6:14PM
@Kal
Come back over here when the PS3 is in 2nd place. Outselling for a few months and yet still in 3rd place. Must suck to be a 1 console owner.
philmcphail @ Sep 7th 2008 8:05PM
Damn I envy you guys (who is picking up a 360 with all these deals) . And I thought the deal back in Late 07 was the best deal I was ever gonna get! :p
alex @ Sep 8th 2008 12:38AM
OK, so all of you so joyed about buying an Xbox 360 now because of all the great deals. Well, this comes from a friend in Microsoft customer support.-- Microsoft is slashing prices on their consoles because they are planning to release a refresher of the Xbox line around holidays 2009. Plans include quad core processor (45 nm), nvidia tri-sli, blu-ray drive, built in wireless N connection and Dolby 7.1 support.-- I believe this is true. The original Xbox rolled off the line November 2001, and production stopped Christmas 2004. The Xbox 360 was announced the following spring, and thus released November 2005. If Microsoft continues this 3 1/2 year cycle, expect the new Xbox soon- also no exclusives in 2009 for the 360. Also Microsoft knows it is competing with Sony with inferior hardware, and the PS3 is outselling the 360 every month so far in 2008 (Granted Sony is doing a horrible job marketing the PS3 for the justification of the high price). Make sure your making the right decision.
Mr Bunky @ Sep 8th 2008 1:30AM
So the next time the PS3 drops its price we can all asume they are throwing in the towel too.
If a new system is in the works it will be released at the end of 2010 the earliest. Microsoft may even wait another year if the competition doesn't have anything new at that time.
JB @ Sep 8th 2008 12:07PM
I went to Circuit City to get an XBOX with the free MS points and they said sorry we don't have any cards. I was like do you get any in today you do have in in the ad? IDK. I even asked if they would give me a $20 gift card instead and she said the manager say no. So I said OK I don't want it then. I went to best buy and they priced matched it no problem. Thanks Best Buy! No wonder you kicking CC'S ass.
Trunas @ Sep 8th 2008 12:37PM
Might get unleashed from Circuit City. Congratulations for anyone picking up the system after the price cuts. The more gamers online the better!
