Rumor: MS planning five hour long New Xbox Experience media blitz

In rumor news that could probably be filed under the sub-category "too good to be true", word on the street is that Microsoft is planning a huge New Xbox Experience blowout later this month. A five hour long G4TV "console re-launching" event that's said to be full of new Xbox 360 game announcements.
According to forum poster Dodece over on VG Chartz.com, Microsoft will hold their five hour long New Xbox Experience re-launching event on September 25th beginning at 7:00PM eastern and unleash an all out media blitz. Rumored to be announced during the event is news regarding free Halo 3 DLC, new Mass Effect DLC, the first of two chunks of GTAIV DLC and info regarding Portal. Also, during the event, six Xbox Originals will be released for free. There is also mention that MS will announce a Sirius Satellite Radio partnership, a new music download service and something called "Mad Lib" of which isn't explained. As if that wasn't enough, Microsoft will be announcing twelve new game titles exclusive to the 360, all of which are codenamed, but the rumor source confirms Assassins Creed 2, Mass Effect 2, a new Conker title, a new Rare shooter and two new Halo games are in the mix. Phew!
Sound too good to be true? Yeah, sounds that way to us as well. Then again, if Microsoft wanted to march into the holidays with their guns a blazing, holding a five hour long 360 media frenzy would generate a bunch of buzz. Try not to get your hopes up though.

I seriously doubt it, but if it is true, this would be HUGE in terms of exposure for the 360
halo 3 sucks. @ Sep 8th 2008 8:04PM
if anyone read the article, it says the 6 xbox originals are free for "long standing members". wtf does that mean? does it mean only for people who have had the account for 5 years or sumthing?
mattclarkie @ Sep 9th 2008 3:58AM
I hope it means people that got the 360 at/around launch and registered them.
But that is just wishful thinking if it even turned out to be try.
emirabal @ Sep 8th 2008 3:22PM
Hey Dustin, are you and Richard the only two working, news is slow and you guys are the only ones pounding out posts, keep it up, i still keep coming back to this website like a crackhead going to his dealer even though he knows the shit is cooked up with half baking soda but it still so good. Blue Magic baby, blue magic, woooo.
Oh, great article to.
D dogg @ Sep 8th 2008 3:31PM
"i still keep coming back to this website like a crackhead"
I suggest not checking every 30 minutes. I check it every few hours and there is always something new up... ALWAYS.
Get a job (if you got one: work more, surf less) or play more games or... whatever.
Also, add Kotaku, Joystiq, 1up, etc. and if you can keep up with all THAT news, than you REALLY need to rethink a lot of things...
Dustin Burg @ Sep 8th 2008 3:36PM
After experiencing a delayed wake-up (damn alarm clock!) and a slow news day we're churning out as much 360 news as possible. There's also Fancast goodness coming later today, so keep refreshing every five minutes or so ... minimum. Maybe every 30 seconds, if possible.
B @ Sep 8th 2008 3:46PM
@D dogg
Why check back every hour when you have RSS readers.
todd @ Sep 8th 2008 4:08PM
I just check the RSS instead of the site itself, find it easier.
007craft @ Sep 8th 2008 4:18PM
checking an rss is exactly the same as checking the site, the only difference is you need to refresh the page to check the site, but you could always have one of the millions of browsers out there that auto refreshs web pages every 5 mins etc.
I do use the RSS reader, but thats only because you can get RSS feeds in outlook, and since im at work, I can read right from outlook, which is where im suppose to be, waiting for new problems (im support). So if anyone glances at my screen from afar, It looks like im always working, when im infact reading up ont he lattest xbox rumour :p.
Now is there a way to not recieve the pictures with the rss feeds over outlook? Cause I always quickly scroll down so the picture goes offscreen when viewing
D dogg @ Sep 8th 2008 4:31PM
Should've clarified, I used Google Reader and have all those I've listed in it. That's what I mean by there's no way to keep up with the news.
Everything in my list is higher than 199... Kotaku is 1000+ as it is, and even if I reset it, it jumps up that high in less than 2 weeks!

Wow. Does sound too good to be true. however, every microsoft rumor nowadays (zune, mouse, price drop on 360) does seem to be true! Here's hoping
sgt_quackers @ Sep 8th 2008 5:44PM
What about the numerous motion controller rumors? There have been a lot of those but so far none have come true.
But I do how this happens because it sound very cool.
gmanporter @ Sep 8th 2008 3:29PM
say whaaaatttt!!
Aaron @ Sep 8th 2008 3:30PM
If this is true well then..... HOLY F'in Crap !
PeacefulOutrage @ Sep 8th 2008 6:55PM
Funny thing is it doesn't surprise me. Isn't this around the time for the Tokyo Game Show? Also, MS hasn't made any new announcements yet this year, so it could easily happen.
protostar @ Sep 8th 2008 3:30PM
SIX Xbox Originals released for free? This can't be true, can it?
AoE @ Sep 8th 2008 3:54PM
That's the bit where the sceptic in me said "hmm, this is clearly bullshit and this is the part that makes that much obvious" but of course the fanboy in me said "six free xb1 games?! I wonder what they'll be!!!"
RockerAnimeFreak @ Sep 8th 2008 7:01PM
Yeah same here... 6 free games huh? heres to hoping that one's true! *raises glass*

D dogg @ Sep 8th 2008 3:31PM
This is definitely too good to be true. I'm not even going to reread the article so hopefully I'll forget most of what I just read...
But, if true, Sony would have to have TWO ACES up their sleeves to counter this news... let's not forget Netflix this fall either.
Sony is playing a serious game of catch up even without this news.
NeoK-182 @ Sep 8th 2008 3:32PM
damn i hope at least most of that is true. With all the rumors about the zune coming true at the MS press conference tomorrow a big 360 day would sure be in the right direction
MC Double Def DP @ Sep 8th 2008 3:34PM
Probably too good to be true, but didn't Bungie just confirmed the leaked Halo 3 achievements are legit and will be out by the end of this month?
...something's brewing atleast.
ObiWanKennoli @ Sep 8th 2008 3:34PM
I would let out manjuice in my pants if they announced mass effect 2!
Cal @ Sep 8th 2008 4:59PM
Mass Effect is planned to be a trilogy isn't it? Do you need them to announce a game you already know is coming?
Fenix @ Sep 8th 2008 3:35PM
If true, FUCK YES!
myabsolution @ Sep 8th 2008 3:39PM
this is one rumour that I pray to be true...
any and all DLC infoz to me is awesome
myabsolution @ Sep 8th 2008 3:41PM
and yeah how could i forget free originals and Conker :O!
Neuromancer @ Sep 8th 2008 3:39PM
You lost me at "six Xbox Originals will be released for free".
DudeRed @ Sep 8th 2008 4:42PM
Yes this is unlikely, but not impossible.
I would think that the XBOs are not doing awesome seeing as you can just go and purchase a used copy of the game for about 10 to 15 bucks or just dust off your old Xbox games. They want people to get into the whole download everything...uh thing. Why do you think they are bringing out so many good XBLA titles, pushing out bigger hard-drives, and since they lost the whole HD-DVD war, they are also really driving on having HD movies and videos available for download (hello...? Netflix).
They would be really helping themselves out if they put out some really old titles that no one is buying anyway to get people excited or at least try out the XBOs. It’s a win-win for everyone!
B @ Sep 8th 2008 3:44PM
This is WAY to farfetched to be true.
But considering 90% of MS rumors come out to be true.... holy shit!
Diamondxp @ Sep 8th 2008 3:44PM
Well You had me at a new Conker Funniest game ever.
Holzmiento @ Sep 8th 2008 3:46PM
Stern Rules Bababooey!
DjDATZ @ Sep 8th 2008 3:46PM
If this does happen...then just WOW.
bak @ Sep 8th 2008 3:47PM
Um... my hopes are up. Dang it hopes; get back down here!
Whitedragon101 @ Sep 8th 2008 3:48PM
MASS EFFECT 2! and mass effect dlc! can I get a woot woot?!
That makes me so frickin excited...
whiplashchick @ Sep 8th 2008 4:01PM
i nearly had a heart attack when my Mass Effect glitched and said there was new downloadable content yesterday.
and now this! woooooooo
mattclarkie @ Sep 8th 2008 3:57PM
I would have believed it apart from 2 things.
Number one, free Xbox Original games.
Number 2, Assassins Creed 2 exclusive to 360
elmersglue @ Sep 8th 2008 3:58PM
wait, what? am i reading it right? assassins creed 2 is part of the rumored "Exclusive titles"? I doubt it....
but a new conker game would be awesome.
Neuromancer @ Sep 8th 2008 3:58PM
If you read the thread, the person posting the rumor says it's batshit crazy and has a 1% chance of coming true. So, yeah.
Pudge @ Sep 8th 2008 3:59PM
Considering the somewhat low key E3 announcements, besides the whole new dashboard thing and Final Fantasy 13, I could see some of this being true. It might be a little to big to be believed, but then again, nothing pushes hard drive sales like free games. And the Halo 3 anniversary is the 25th, and thats when Bungie said the DLC will launch, and we don't have a release for Assembly. It looks likes it's all syncing up.
todd @ Sep 8th 2008 3:59PM
6 origs for free hahaha ya right
Chuck @ Sep 8th 2008 3:59PM
If a quarter of that comes true, then truly "Heghlu'meH QaQ jajvam"!
Sam @ Sep 8th 2008 4:03PM
too good to be true sounds right, especially with free originals, not that I wouldn't mind, but my 20G hd might not be big enough.
harry @ Sep 8th 2008 4:06PM
Although it does seem highly unlikly for something that big for games to be announced, it is possible. Just think about it for a sec. Microsoft didn't allow bungie to make their announcement at E3 and said they would let that happen at an event at a later time. Also, Microsoft didn't go to other recent gaming events and said they were going to hold a separate event later in the year. Also, bungie is having that invitation only party. So maybe this is what it is going to be?!?!?
Makes sense. Especially with what is rumoured to be announced such as the Halo 3 DLC(Mythic Map Pack/update rumour) and the announcement of the other Halo games. Seems like a perfect fit for all this.
netgem21 @ Sep 8th 2008 4:07PM
Please, please, bring out Perfect Dark 2! I loved PDZ!!
BigDaddyBooth @ Sep 8th 2008 4:10PM
Oh, my hopes are already up! This would be the greatest 5 hours of my life if it were true; gosh, I'm such a fanboy!!!
Daniel M @ Sep 8th 2008 4:15PM
I don't think there's any possibility of this being true. In the event that I'm wrong, well.. wow, Microsoft would be pulling out some seriously big guns against Sony and Nintendo. Six free Xbox Originals? Goodness.
Dirty @ Sep 8th 2008 4:18PM
I hope at least some of this is true....
Hopefully we get some more info regarding this. I would imagine that they would start advertising such an event soon.
