MTV has announced that the standalone version of
Rock Band 2 (not the instrument bundle) is on its way to retailers. The game will be available (strangely) this coming Sunday, September 14 for the standard price of $59.99. While the game won't be available with instruments bundled in (yet), MTV has announced that both the wireless drums and guitar will be available "later in the week" for $89.99 and $69.99 respectively. Also available will be the
Mad Catz Precision Bass controller for $69.99 and the uber-deluxe
ION Drum Rocker for a hefty $299. It's worth noting that the ION Drum Rocker can be converted into a real electronic drum set using additional hardware (sold separately, of course). No details were give regarding the release of the instrument bundle.
Now it's time to go start bugging your game store employee friends for a sneak peak. Just remember, trying to trick someone into selling you
Rock Band 2 before its street date is wrong. Fun, but wrong.

Seang @ Sep 10th 2008 5:43PM
I think your standard price is a bit higher than many other's standard price
Mrblonde @ Sep 10th 2008 5:51PM
Yeah typo. Actual price is 59.99.
Richard Mitchell @ Sep 10th 2008 6:04PM
Ahem. Yes. $59.99. Fixed.
Bill @ Sep 10th 2008 5:47PM
hmmm... I thought the standard price was 59.99 not 69.99.. is that a typo or is it 10 bucks more then usual?
airswoop @ Sep 10th 2008 5:48PM

I hope this is actually available to purchase on Sunday...
Ryan @ Sep 10th 2008 6:46PM
Am I the only one who thinks it's kind of dumb to have this game drop on a Sunday? I mean, this game is like, the ULTIMATE party game. If you're gonna release it on an off day, why not Friday or Saturday? How am I supposed to have a drunken Rock Band 2 party at my place on a Sunday night? Now I have to wait a whole week for that... boooo!

Look at it this way - you can spend the week unlocking all the songs, and have them all available to play when your shindig actually goes down.

Ample Salty @ Sep 10th 2008 7:07PM
Now, once again, we Europeans play the waiting game. Or is that Hungry Hungry Hippos?
Odog4ever @ Sep 10th 2008 7:59PM
If you are a hardcore RB fan I suggest that you try to get the game early. I read on the official Rock Band developer blog that they have special battle of the bands challenges for people who get the game before Sunday. And since these one-time challenges stay on your "permanent record" you'll have bragging rights (if that sort of thing floats your boat)
HazyCloud @ Sep 10th 2008 8:13PM
I think the Battle is between 12am and 9am Sunday. I read something about on the RB forums earlier. First the first time ever, I'll be depending on Wal Mart to come through at midnight.

RB2 Is sweet.

I purchased mine from gameplay down the block from my house today. Its a good upgrade from one I like the new video type effects they use on some of the songs like beck and some of the 80's tunes
ice~ @ Sep 10th 2008 11:58PM
gamestop probably won't get it till tuesday...for me, they never sell the games when they promise, I usually have to get it the next week...damn it!!! Cant wait to play AC/DC, I hope they get DLC for acdc...I want the epic tracks :)...not saying let there be rock isn't epic..
JohnHeist @ Sep 11th 2008 4:02AM
I'm gonna look around tomorrow night, most stores around here sell stuff as soon as they get it.
Mercs 2 was sold out before it came out.
However, I work at Musician's Friend and we're scheduled to get it in on the 15th, so hopefully we get it early...
Oddly enough we're scheduled to get the "Special Edition" on the same date. I hope that's true.

Gamestop in St. louis has the Mad Katz Bass out already. It's a big sucker... Also i noticed on all the preorder pagers that best buy has the drums for 79.99 not 89.99
Mrblonde @ Sep 11th 2008 2:29PM
It also shows the guitar for 79.99 which is ten bucks more then what it is listed for on amazon.
Lambert @ Sep 11th 2008 7:53PM
Was at Future Shop today in Ottawa and there was a box full of them sitting beside the checkout line. Picked one out and tried to check out with it but their computer system came back with a message which said, "Do not sell until September 14th".
Too bad--the cashier tried to ring it through so obviously had no idea it wasn't ready for release yet.
MGrayer180 @ Sep 11th 2008 10:24PM
Same thing happen to me at Circuit City & Wal-Mart today. Both stores had them out on display, but the register wouldn't ring it up. The manager at CC knew it wasn't supposed to be out yet, and was pissed it was on display.
