UK deal: Gears 2 and replica gold lancer for £129

Not to be confused with the Gears of War 2 in-game gold plated Lancer, UK retailer gamestation is offering diehard fans the chance to own a replica gold painted Gears Lancer. The same toy Lancer that's available exclusively on Amazon.com, but with a fancy gold paint scheme. If you're interested in owning one of these bundles, you better start saving up already. The Gears of War 2 gold plated Lancer bundle (collector's edition plus Lancer) will set you back a hefty £129. But it's worth every penny and we hear gold prices are on the rise. That's a joke.

This is turning out to be a tough decision for me. I want both versions.

Problem is, i wanted the bundle that came with the splatter head figure and i can't seem to find it now. Suppose I'll fork out for this instead, even if it is nearly double the price of the US non-gold version
Ice9 @ Sep 17th 2008 4:48PM
God damn it! I want a decent looking lancer (I.e. NORMAL COLOUR!) for a reasonable price!
IncredibleBulk92 @ Sep 17th 2008 5:27PM
That thing is ugly as hell. Why would I want a Gold Lancer? Give me the US version any day. Another thing that convinced me I don't need the collector's edition was the golden lancer in multi player. I'd hate to have that.
On top of all that £130! Their dreaming. The Rock Band instruments don't cost that much and theres a hell of a lot more game in Rock Band
james frazer @ Sep 17th 2008 5:45PM
Nice one, pre-ordered!
Gamertag: GOPAL892005 @ Sep 17th 2008 5:49PM
£130 - are they kidding?
why cant we get the regular coloured Lancer aswell?
the Special Ed costs £43 at Amazon - so the Lancer would work out at £86! Rip Off IMO
i think i may just buy from Fleabay [US Import] if it looks good : )
mattclarkie @ Sep 18th 2008 3:50AM
I was going to send this in 4days ago but assumed you wouldn't care.
I refused to buy it for £130 or around $250 especially in that awful gold colour.

I was informed of this last week in store by an employee of gamestation (who immediately said it looks bad and he's going to pick his up in america for standard colours, at least he's honest!) and I was told that the reasoning for this Gold Lancer is that the replica weaponry laws over here are alot stricter than the US so the gun has to be made very clear its a fake, never mind the chainsaw, it has to be a fake colour!!
mattclarkie @ Sep 18th 2008 12:59PM
I think it is actually because Amazon have an exclusive deal, so it couldn't be the same as Amazons. You can get rather accurate replica guns legally in the UK.
Also gamestation are advertising it as World Exclusive, which is only true because it is gold.

A law past earlier this year in the U.K. which means all replica fire arms must be either colored entirely in a very bright color or see through. (Unless you are part of an organization, e.g. a film studio)
Allan @ Sep 25th 2008 7:28PM
Yup, thats why any toy guns will have a bright orange cap on the end, including Airsoft guns.
These also require a £20 deposit (there ARE only 5000 of them being made after all) and despite the...unusual colour, are going like hotcakes.
They could have coloured it a lighter shade of grey and painted the front with splattered blood, especially the blade. That fits better than gold.
Meh, at least i get my discount. I might even be able to get away without the deposit too, depends how many come in.

Does anyone know if this will be included in the Gamestation sale?
