Proto Man invades Mega Man 9 for a price
Continuing the long standing tradition of annoying customers by announcing (or releasing) downloadable content for a game that hasn't even come out yet, Capcom revealed to GamesRadar that Proto Man will find his way into Mega Man 9 by way of DLC. An additional 160MS Points could net you your very own playable Proto who controls similar to good ol' Megs, other than the fact that he can slide and charge his blasts. Great addition or price gouging? We'll find soon as Mega Man 9 is set to release on October 1.

Considering all the news so far has come from the Capcom blog, I'm going to wait until I see this news there before I believe it.
Megaman can slide in every game from 3 on, and charge in every game after that, but now he can't in 9? I'm not saying it's impossible, but I'll need more proof than GamesRadar (not to mention, the "screenshots" just... they just look terrible).
Author X @ Sep 21st 2008 4:23PM
Maybe I should clarify... I'm not just dubious because of the source, but I believe that this is a BOLD-FACED LIE, because it does not sound like anything Capcom would actually do, the "screenshots" are absolutely terrible (notice how everything else from Capcom is an actual game shot, not a crappy, lower-than-8-bit resolution shot of grid-like area?), GamesRadar is known for starting false rumors, and again... every other piece of info is posted straight to Capcom's own blog, but this was handed to a random blog site in the UK for them to post as an exclusive, with no official confirmation.
Honestly, I'm ashamed of you, X3F, for posting this as fact, instead of stating it as a rumor, or better yet just ignoring it altogether.
Author X @ Sep 21st 2008 4:36PM
Oh yeah, and if you look very closely at the first "illustrative picture" it's a grey Protoman shooting a red Protoman in the back... with a Cyclops-like eye beam.
I mean, c'mon. Seriously?
...seriously, X3F?
Xav de Matos @ Sep 21st 2008 4:52PM
I don't get which part you are upset at. During PS3Fanboy's hands-on a while ago they confirmed Megs can't charge or slide. Also, this DLC has been reported at many other sites.
Sorry if you're angry with it but we're not bullshitting you, man.
Also, not to defend GamesRadar but they are an official site from Future Publishing that owns a number of gaming magazines including The Official Xbox Magazine, Nintendo Power and PlayStation: The Official Magazine.
Author X @ Sep 21st 2008 5:00PM
I must admit, I'm not on top of things about the PS3 hands-on (that's the one site/system I don't pay attention to), and I did say that that, in itself, isn't reason to cry fowl. But every site I've seen reporting this is linking BACK to GamesRadar.
If every other blogging site links back to the first one, then that first one MUST be reporting facts, right?
Author X @ Sep 21st 2008 5:02PM
Oh yeah, and sorry to keep posting so much, but I really don't think you're bullshitting me, and never said I did.
I'm disappointed that you're buying into someone else's bullshit.
Xav de Matos @ Sep 21st 2008 5:07PM
Everyone is linking back to GamesRadar because we are referring to their story. It wasn't a post on Capcom's blog that we're referring to. They broke the news, they get the source link. That's the way we all do things if we credit sites, which we always do.
This kind of reminds me of the Bungie E3 Announcement Cancellation. Everyone called us out for reporting something as fact when they were convinced it was bull and for days we were lambasted by angry readers. When the time passed and nothing was announced no one said a word about how the story was accurate.
If you'd prefer to get your Capcom information from them then that is completely fine. You seem really upset about the possibility of downloadable content. Sorry if this story brought stress upon your day. There really isn't much else to say at this point.
Author X @ Sep 21st 2008 5:27PM
I have nothing against DLC, or again, the actual content of what you posted.
However, one of my pet peeves is when misinformation keeps spreading because every goes back to "He said she said that he said she saw someone mention this." In the day and age of the internet, everyone can go back to the original source and see for themselves where the rumor originally started, so it's even more disappointing to see this sort of thing passed on and spread when there's nothing behind it.
If the way this news broke weren't such a departure from how everything else MM9-related has been announced, I would be fine. If they had any proof besides two pictures that could easily be assembled using MS Paint and two sprites from Sprites, Inc (if you want me to go into even more detail about how terrible those pictures are, I can, but it never seemed necessary), then I wouldn't have any problem with linking back to that site being the only proof the rest of the blogosphere needed.
Sir, if it comes out that this was complete nonsense, or crafted together from other news and rumors and GR happened to be right about one or two things but they never got any "exclusive info" from capcom... I will sigh, and say "glad that's finally over" and go back to whatever it was I was doing.
If it turns out that they were totally right, and the pictures they posted were straight from the mouths of Capcom's developers, I will purchase and consume a hat, and send you pictures for your pleasure.
Xav de Matos @ Sep 21st 2008 5:31PM
I never mentioned a thing about the screens they put up. But, when Capcom announces this DLC then I'll gladly LAWL at images of you eating a hat.
CPTStewart @ Sep 21st 2008 7:13PM
"Megaman can slide in every game from 3 on, and charge in every game after that, but now he can't in 9? I'm not saying it's impossible, but I'll need more proof than GamesRadar"
Go check out IGN's video review right here: http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/14265758/mega-man-9/videos/megaman9_vidrev_091908.html
about 2 minutes 15 seconds in: "You don't have the slide anymore like you used to have in some of the 8-bit games [and] there's no charge shot either...".
Xav de Matos @ Sep 21st 2008 7:14PM
We should do a poll to decide which kind of hat he'll eat...
Author X @ Sep 21st 2008 8:31PM
While a poll would actually be pretty awesome, I already admitted to not knowing about the slide and charge. My point of contention is that there's no proof to any of the reposts of this news except to link to GR, and they provide no proof except those pictures and "We said so."
And also "C'mon, Capcom will totally back us up on this. See, this official blog over here? Where they don't mention this at all? They totally will. Eventually."
Xav de Matos @ Sep 21st 2008 9:35PM
I'd continue this wonderful conversation but you are extremely rude.
Author X @ Sep 21st 2008 9:53PM
That seem uncalled for. Rude, maybe, but extremely?
I was done with the conversation, and ready for one of us to be proven wrong, but CPTStewart seems to think he outsmarted me with his barbed wit. I just wanted to point out that yes, YOU had already pointed out I was wrong about the charge shot and sliding. And I admitted that I was not on the ball about that.
Gee, I'm very sorry that when I say "X seems unlikely, and I downright refuse to believe Y", I'll admit to being wrong about X. I guess that makes me a terrible person.
Let me be very clear, here.
I was wrong about the slide/charge thing. I admit this because another source, with hands-on experience, that's not GamesRadar, said so before the GR article. I said it was unlikely, but it is true. That proves nothing about the verifiability of information that started with the GR article and has propagated from there.

i....i bakked a kake for yus guys...it tastes like friendchips. :D
Andrew @ Sep 22nd 2008 4:24AM
Somebody takes Mega Man a little too seriously...
Fire Fawkes @ Sep 22nd 2008 8:32AM
Wait, wait, in your second post you say "it doesn't sound like something Capcom would actually do"!?! Sorry, but milking a franchise for every last dime is EXACTLY what I'd expect Capcom to do. They're famous for finding a way to get a buck out of everything a series has to offer. DLC characters that should be packaged with the game? Yup, right up their alley.
AoE @ Sep 22nd 2008 1:38PM
Let me just say I'd like to see him eat a bowler:

May I recommend a New England Patriots baseball cap?
dancingtosirens @ Sep 24th 2008 4:36PM
Sorry this is late, but now that all the DLC for october has been confirmed in the manual for MM9 for the Wii, I believe we are all owed a video of someone eating a hat now.
Bluestreak2 @ Sep 25th 2008 4:33AM
BREAKING NEWS, Author X gave me exclusive rights to his hat eating story.
To find out more, just hop on over to my wordpress. There's even a picture.

Vidd @ Sep 21st 2008 3:47PM
Imagine Nintendo charged extra for Luigi!
ryan @ Sep 21st 2008 4:02PM
since this is Mega Man 9, he should be able to slide and charge blasts on his own (does he lose them in a Metroid accident permanently?). and to put an extra character in that has these abilities proves that it's not about game balance.
straight rip-off and doesn't really make sense.
Roto13 @ Sep 21st 2008 4:03PM
That's not retro at all. :(
Edboy @ Sep 21st 2008 5:21PM
Two bucks for an unnessecary set of pixels and already people are crying "doom."
BIGFAT @ Sep 21st 2008 5:54PM
10 dollars- for a nes game (in 2008)
2 dollars- for a couple pixels that should be included in the game.
PRICELESS-seeing Megaman fans eat that up like a gift from god.
you would think they would give it to us as a gift for having to look at those Fugly graphics.
Mrblonde @ Sep 21st 2008 6:21PM
Yeah that is fail on capcom's part
blank964 @ Sep 21st 2008 8:14PM
Well it's from Capcom, the same company that releases ports and rehashes all the time. I'm not really surprised.
Tony @ Sep 21st 2008 8:26PM
Man, what stinks more is that I don't get why sticking a sprite they could easily take from any MM game since the 3rd one should cost additional points at all.
Sorry, no thanks.
ChocoDK @ Sep 21st 2008 9:37PM
I have no issues with DLC if they are released for example like what CoD4 did or Warhawk for example. I don't care if companies release lets say a map pack a few months down the line and charge for it thats fine with me by all means. However, what I do hate about DLC is when the company released the DLC at or near the release of a new game when they could've included it in the game in the first place.
I read on another site that for WiiWare the DLC for Mega Man 9 comes out on October 6th. They probably could've delayed the game if they had to and included it. While it might be $2 which may not seem like a lot, Capcom will truly be banking in on this with all the Mega Man fans out there. I will still purchase the game but not sure about the extra character. This reminds me of PAIN on PSN.
RandomZero @ Sep 22nd 2008 11:05AM
Wait, wait, wait...that doesn't sound like something Capcom would do? Seriously?
Isn't this the same Capcom that released 47+ versions of Street Fighter 2 (now with less fat!)?
Yeah...thought so. This is RIGHT up their alley. Right next to the blowbo.
