Bleszinski: Definitely no Gears of War 2 on the PC

During an interview with TVG, Mr. Epic himself, Cliff Bleszinski revealed that they have absolutely no plans to release Gears of War 2 to the PC due, in part, to the fact that the PC market has been dealing with piracy issues.
"Here's the problem right now; the person who is savvy enough to want to have a good PC to upgrade their video card, is a person who is savvy enough to know bit torrent to know all the elements so they can pirate software," explained Bleszinski, "it makes sense for us to focus on Xbox 360 for a number of reasons." And when bluntly asked whether Gears 2 would ever see a PC release, Cliff answered with a simple "no". When pressed further if that was a definite decision, Bleszinski stuck to his answer reiterating that Gears 2 would not see a PC release.

Cash rules everything around me. CREAM
But seriously can you blame him?
NeoK-182 @ Sep 29th 2008 3:17PM
maybe if gears 1 on the PC didn't crash so much more people would of bought it. ever think of that cliffy?
oh and ontop of that maybe if you didn't give us PC gamers a shitty PS3 port of UT3 instead of actually making a true PC version.
DBoyFlex @ Sep 29th 2008 4:58PM
I agree here. It does not have to do with piracy, it is that they made a crappy, unstable Gears 1 release that actually gave them bad rep. They don't want that again.
Ghen @ Sep 30th 2008 1:13PM
I pirated Gears 1 on xbox and I plan to do the same with Gears 2. What's his point again?
Gemini Ace @ Sep 29th 2008 3:19PM
Didn't they say that about Gears 1? No PC version.
Livi70590 @ Sep 29th 2008 3:24PM
That sounds familiar, yes.
Marrvia @ Sep 29th 2008 6:21PM
He is doing the smart thing by saying it will never come out on PC even if he knows it will someday. If everyone thinks it will never come out on PC, they will just buy the xbox 360 version without hesitation if they really want to play it. If he says now that it will come out eventually on PC, some people will wait to buy it on PC, and a lot more people will just wait to pirate the game on PC.
offday @ Sep 29th 2008 3:22PM
I love Gears, but I'm so sick of seeing Cliffy's (oh wait, sorry, more professional, right) CLIFF'S face. Seriously, is this guy a game developer or a model. Because the majority of the audience he's trying to look sexy for are fat sweaty nerds.
Livi70590 @ Sep 29th 2008 3:26PM
I agree with this statement.
Maybe he's trying to get the game to appeal to women...
Al3XxXandr @ Sep 29th 2008 4:14PM
so u think hes sexy??? thats just wrong
Dirty @ Sep 29th 2008 4:30PM

Using adblock for firefox, you can wildcard-block any image on this site w/the name 'cliff'... try it!
X3F... please, as a public service, continue to include cliff in the name of cliff images.
Arnon @ Sep 29th 2008 6:13PM
So.. for him to be involved in gaming.. he has to look like a fat-sweaty nerd? Jeez.. I have to quit now.
offday @ Sep 29th 2008 9:45PM
Ehh I dunno. We might have to check out your MySpace. But as long as you aren't posing with replica lancers then you should be safe. Unless....uh oh. You ARE defending him.
I think we found Cliff's mysterious photographer/gay lover.
pliny5678 @ Sep 30th 2008 10:03AM
Eh, he's not really good looking and I will never understand the appeal of that hairstyle on guys. He's also trying to show off his muscles when there's not much to show.
I suppose compared to Dennis Dyack, he's a supermodel.
Arnon @ Sep 30th 2008 7:21PM
Mmmm Cliffy so sexy~.. Rofl..
Arnon @ Sep 30th 2008 7:25PM

Those same savvy people that can install a video cards and use bit torrent to download PC games, are the same people people that can install a mod chip, and use bit torrent to download Xbox 360 games.....
Wow.....Idiot.
Huey2k2 @ Sep 29th 2008 3:33PM
That's true, but to be fair I am pretty sure that piracy is a lot more rampant for PC's than it is for consoles.
I'll admit I have stolen my fair share of PC games, but have I ever pirated a console game? Not since back when I first got my Dreamcast.
The majority of people I know pirate PC games all the time, but have never pirated a console game before.
Letuch @ Sep 29th 2008 3:36PM
Number of people BUYING games for X360 is far greater than this number for PC users. Percentage wise that is.
So they're concerned about the money. They will loose less without PC release.
TomCo @ Sep 29th 2008 3:42PM
Care to back up your statements with facts?
You honestly think there are more people buying xbox360 games than there are PC users?
TomCo @ Sep 29th 2008 3:45PM
Appologies, I read that incorrectly.
Still, I'd like to see some figures.
NumbN8 @ Sep 29th 2008 3:51PM
Just for record I don't have a modded 360. I like Huey, bootleg only on the PC. I do plan on modding a Wii one day....
Anyhow for numbers. Right now on the torrent site I use. There are 44 people sharing Mass Effect for PC, and 53 sharing it for 360.
Lego Batman PC has 85, xbox 360 has 69. Thats only a small difference on each.
The thing is people do have a modded console. They don't just get the games they want like PC gamers. They get every game.....
Tony @ Sep 29th 2008 3:55PM
At the end of the day, the work required to mod a 360 and go through all of that is far greater. I'm willing to bet at least 10 times the number of people who visit this site have pirated a PC game than have pirated a 360 game... solely because on a PC you generally don't have to do much beyond download it.
RebornJeremiah @ Sep 29th 2008 3:59PM
Whatever, ppl that complain about DRM limit their gaming experience or piracy policy being unfair is the one that most likely to either pirate the game or not buying the game anyway to begin with. It is the same thing why people in Amazon.com putting bad review for Spore just because of its DRM policy. Why? Because they want to rip it off anyway. The truth is, the ppl that complain about DRM policy of Spore are prob the ones that pirated the game anyway.
I don't see anything wrong of the company trying to protect their property even though sometimes I hate the fact that it goes way too strict. But in the end I cannot see the reason why people have to be snobbish, and put down the game or even insulting the maker of the game.
Vcize @ Sep 29th 2008 4:38PM
"Those same savvy people that can install a video cards and use bit torrent to download PC games, are the same people people that can install a mod chip, and use bit torrent to download Xbox 360 games.....

You could not possibly be missing the point more.
The point is that to build a gaming rig, you typically have to be a pretty savvy person. Most savvy people are capable of (and willing to) downloading a game on BT on copying over the crack for it.
On the other hand, you absolutely DO NOT have to be a savvy consumer to go out and buy an Xbox 360 at your neighborhood Walmart or Best Buy.
If you think the percentage of 360 owners that pirate games is anywhere CLOSE to the percentage of people with nice gaming rigs that pirate games, you're certifiably insane.
Edog @ Sep 29th 2008 5:20PM
Those same "savvy people" know enough to never go online with copied xbox games because they'll get banned. Modded xbox firmware is still a go, for all your homebrew and hardware upgrades. I think M$ learned alot from the modding community last gen. M$ totally lifted some of the best ideas that "xbox media center" (which is a 100% homebrew and open source developed by modders and hackers) had to offer. M$ knows now that modders are cool and contribute to the community. It is very easy for them to check the FW (firmware) version of certain chips, but they don't ban theses modders. They only ban the pirates who have a modded xbox who play copied games online. For this reason alone Gears2 is a safe bet $$$ on the 360 because multi-player online is where it's at for this franchise.
Vanillacide @ Sep 29th 2008 8:12PM
I plan to buy my first 360 soon to solve problems like this, I am a long-time PC gamer who buys all his games but is getting POed with no-PC versions of big titles.
Every single one of my friends who has an Xbox 360 has mod-ed it firmware with a download they've burnt to disc -- not really that hard is it?
Once they've done this (which is straight after getting it out the box) they have never purchased a single game, ever, not one of them! 0 game sales.
But they have every title available which they download from the internet, and even use white DVD-ROMs so they can print the artwork on the disc.
Not only do they not pay for any games, but they also get them before they are available at retail.
Piracy isn't limited to PC, it is rampant on Xbox 360 too.
joeybeast @ Sep 29th 2008 3:33PM

Can we please start calling him Cliffy B or whatever it was? His real name is damned annoying. Cliffy B was immature but at least readable.
offday @ Sep 29th 2008 4:01PM
No, he got mad about it. He wants to sound more professional. Apparently posing for pictures like you're on a cover of a teen magazine is ok though and totally professional.
Josh @ Sep 29th 2008 4:06PM
Yes, I know he got mad. But he is the lead for Epic Games. The developers of Gears of War. That's not a professional game. It's a cool game and not being able to pronounce the name of the lead guy who made the game is definitely not cool.
Andrew @ Sep 29th 2008 4:57PM
Just call him Cliff B.
Marrvia @ Sep 29th 2008 6:45PM
It's not that hard to pronounce, it's only 3 syllables. Blue-Zin-Ski.
hard2say @ Sep 29th 2008 3:47PM

dunnypop @ Sep 29th 2008 4:02PM
I haven't gamed on a PC for a real long time... mainly because I couldn't afford it... and I now find the 360 controller more than sufficient for FPS's...
Chris @ Sep 29th 2008 4:11PM
Mr. Bleszinski's analogy is pretty lame. I agree with NumbN8. Modchips are out there and pirates will be pirates. Besides PC game developers can force an activation just like lots of other software developers. ;)
Vcize @ Sep 29th 2008 5:03PM
Yes, the hardcore pirates will be pirates indeed, but the point is that the people out there that aren't savvy enough to pirate stuff are more likely to walk into Best Buy and buy a $199 Xbox 360 than they are to buy the parts to a gaming rig and put it all together, or order a $2000 rig online.
That's even if we completely ignore that there are tons of people that fall into the middle ground and are savvy enough to download something off bittorrent but not savvy enough to solder a chip onto their machine.
And then THAT's even ignoring that even people savvy enough to mod a 360 often will not since it kills your access to XBL, which is one of the main feature sets of the console. Pirated PC games have servers for people playing pirated versions of the game, pirated 360 games have no online component at all. Given that Gears' biggest draw is its multiplayer and co-op, I think you can do the math here.
Xiphias @ Sep 29th 2008 5:45PM
I think with PC gamers part of the reason people pirate things is that after spending X huge amount of money on the hardware, the last thing you want to do is shell out loads more for software.
Whereas the 360 is cheap, so it doesn't seem to bad paying for games...
Familyguyrokz @ Sep 29th 2008 5:49PM
Piracy, really? The reason that nobody bought it was because it sucked! It used Games for Windows Live and you don't try and charge PC gamers for multiplayer, unless it's an MMO. It was unstable as all hell, and had insane system requirements. Pirates didn't make this game fail, the developers did.
Brucie B @ Sep 29th 2008 5:54PM

Making copies of console games is easy! Checkout< www.realhamster.com> This guy gives you step by step instructions on how to make a copy of any game on any console! I think it might be illegal being him keeping even his domain name on the DL. (DL stands for Down Low. For all the kids who still play on their computer and don't get out enough)
