Posted over on the Evil Avatar forums is a supposed list of Gears of War 2 information gathered from the latest issue of GamePro magazine. According to Mr. forum poster and his GamePro mag, Gears 2 will ship with a redemption code that enables players to download five remade maps from the original Gears free of charge. The remade maps - Gridlock, Subway, Canals, Mansion, and Tyro Station - will be available to download off the XBLM day one of release, but ONLY to those who purchase a new copy of the game with the redemption code. We aren't exactly sure why Epic would do this other than to influence those who normally buy used to purchase a sealed copy.
Another GamePro magazine rumor is that all who attend Gears 2 midnight launch events will receive a redemption code to unlock an in-game gold plated Hammerburst. It and the Collector's Edition exclusive gold plated Lancer are also said to be unlockable in-game. Interesting, eh?

im sticking with the amazon LE so i can haz chainsaw, i will just have to unlock the gold hammerburst
Saturn118 @ Sep 29th 2008 5:26PM
I hope not. When the Limited edition details came out it had EXCLUSIVE beside the lancer
DBoyFlex @ Sep 29th 2008 6:21PM
It now sounds like what they are doing with the CoD 5 LE. You get some gun in the beginning rather than leveling up to get it. Sounds the same now with Gears lancer. Too bad if you preordered it just for that.

Could be that the DLC maps won't be ready at launch, but they still want to bundle them in with the game's cost.

Anyone else REALLY bored with all the Gears2 hype? So far all I have seen is Gears1++, and done a millio times before on the 360.
The last game hyped like this was the 360's biggest letdown (Halo3).
Frankly this game does nothing but damage Microsoft's claim the 360 is a family console...

That's one hell of a deal if it is true! But seriously don't they ever consider the safety of us gamers in not so safe cities? Not exactly wise to wonder around past 12:00am! I did it with GTA4 no problems tho that's because I was first so I got my game dead at 12 midnight while others were there past 1:00am waiting in line! Not that big of a deal tho I'll just show up real early to be one of the first!

Now I am a bit annoyed at that. I was under the impression that the gold was a collecters only thing and a nice way to show it. Where as this hammerburst bugs me. Who knows maybe there will be a local event but i doubt it they seem scarce in the uk. Maybe that will be unlockable too. And yeh it sounds like the DLC just wont be ready when the game goes gold, either that or its to cut down pre-owned purchases later in the game, because they will be 5 maps down. As for the family console comment, For it to be a family console in my book it must be accessable and open to the entire family From the teens-early twenties who want guns and gore to the children who buy into franchises to the parents who want to download the games they played as a kid, and I personally think the 360 is heading the right way. Keeping the hardcore hard and the families friendly. Bring on the NXE

Xbox360 is to family console as Wii is to Blue Velvet.

OMG stop Hyping this game so much your making the wait for it so hard on me so how many days until this game comes out?? i think im goin to go to the midnight but maby not.
AnthonyGalindoX @ Sep 29th 2008 6:56PM
When I read the headline I thought this meant they were going the Namco route of paying to unlock content that's already on the disc. Guess that just goes to show you that it's good to read the entire post.
lee @ Sep 29th 2008 7:04PM
so this is just anither way of excluding gamers from maps but this time its straight away. I h8 DLC
Rick @ Sep 29th 2008 7:43PM
You're planning on waiting to buy a used copy? The code is supposedly going to be in every new, sealed copy of the game. So unless you're waiting to get that scratched up 3 month old copy of the game from your local Blockbuster, stop crying now.
sk8tbrdngpetey @ Sep 29th 2008 10:27PM
No! Most likely they did not have enough room/didn't want to use room remaking maps. So they are free from day one. More room on the disc for new unannounced maps.
Tony @ Sep 29th 2008 10:40PM
And if they follow what they've been doing, several months down the line they'll be free or cheap anyway. I don't think anyone really loses here.
Bootleg Zani @ Sep 29th 2008 10:57PM
Dammit why no Process? Still my favorite Gears 1 map especially for Annex.

Ya, from what I was reading on the golden lancer, it was never stated to be ONLY available with the collectors edition. The only thing verified was that there would be a download code to unlock it, meaning the option to have it unlockable in the game was open. I don't like it, but it makes since. I would rather they force people to wait a while to even be able to unlock it, but I didn't make the game.
As for the map thing, that's an interesting way to keep people buying new. I usually do a mix, getting used if I either played the game already, or I am not really interested in to much more then the story and don't mind waiting or plan on Live play. If they put the maps out on Live for purchase at a later time, then I don't see a problem. Heck, pricing it at $15 wouldn't bother me as only the reseller makes any more on used items. The people who make and publish the game do need to make money back somehow, and that seems good as most people, if not all, who want the maps will be playing on line anyway. Lets the people who buy the game new get everything worth there money, and people who buy it used still support Epic, just not as much.

It has to be a rumor because Cliffy B was interviewed about maps from the first game and he said only Gridlock would be returning and has stated that many times.
MDJ2010 @ Sep 30th 2008 1:24PM
No he has definately said that there will be further remakes of other maps
