Rock Band's AC/DC package comes complete with fine print
Some of the fine print for Rock Band's upcoming AC/DC track package has been clarified thanks to a report by Variety. What we can now confirm is the 18 song pack will be a standalone product that can be played by itself or transferred to an Xbox 360 and act as downloadable content for Rock Band or Rock Band 2.The standalone version will feature most, but not all, of the features found in both Rock Band titles. Players can play all four instruments (vocals, guitar, bass and drums), will not play as AC/DC themselves but as standard in game avatars because the product features no character customization. Players can participate in a tour style mode which plays through the entire set list, participate in tug-of-war and a score duels mode but the disc itself does not support online play.
In order to get online with the AC/DC tracks players must transfer the songs to their hard drive, as was required to play Rock Band songs in Rock Band 2 - which also opens up other restrictions such as character customization. Where things get hairy is that transferring the package can only be activated "once per disc," to prevent players from buying one copy and sharing the music with other machines.
The information was parsed from Paul DeGooyer, senior VP of electronic games and music at MTV who also stated the AC/DC tracks were only exclusive to Rock Band for "a term."

Is it just me or is Xbox Live shitting the bed at the moment?
Christian @ Sep 30th 2008 11:59PM
Nope, it's not just you. XBL is "shitting the bed".

I really want more clarification on the "once per disc" thing. What happens if I get an RROD and MS replaces my Xbox? Will I have to buy the game all over again?

And when your hard drive takes a crap, your option is what? Spend another $40 to get your AC/DC songs back?
Say it ain't so.

At this time we are unaware if using the activation code for the transfer will register the content on your account, which could solve this issue.
At this point, we do not know.

I don't get it.
Anton @ Oct 1st 2008 4:17AM
Disregard that. I read "opens up for".

I think I'll wait a year for Walmart to start discounting the product to $20. Then I'll buy it.
NumbN8 @ Oct 1st 2008 8:47AM
I don't see how this makes sense to harmonix.... Anyone that wants to the tracks on the 360 will purchase it, rip it, and trade it in. or sell it. Anyone that doesn't want to rip it to hard drive will probally buy it used. The whole process will cause the value of the game to decline rather quickly.
Offering it 2 separate ways would increase thier sales dramatically.

This is the dumbest thing ever. How about jumping back into the stone age again.
tim @ Oct 1st 2008 10:09AM
i like ac/dc as much as the next guy, but i'm not paying $30 to purchase all 18 songs. where's the a la carte option? this is a crappy move because i guarantee that given the option, there are only a few people who would still buy ALL songs. and despite the fact that i'm somewhere near 200 songs for RB2, do i want ac/dc to make up 10% of my list?
HazyCloud @ Oct 1st 2008 10:57AM
When AC/DC hits iTunes, we'll be able to download the tracks individually.
andyg8180 @ Oct 1st 2008 10:23AM
Doesnt this defeat the purpose of "DLC"??
Why would they make it a shit load more complicated for no reason... Unless M$ rapes you on DLC posting fees...
recklesself @ Oct 1st 2008 4:36PM
Can you pre-order at wal-mart? Also "one per disc" means if you buy it used you can transfer it. sad face because now i have to go to walmart to get it. Damn marketing people.
Konchu @ Oct 1st 2008 6:09PM
I really hope they mean there is a transfer license code that can only be used once. Much like you had to buy one for the original rock band songs to exfer them for RB2. Cause if it is that way you could simply logon and redownload the license from your download history if your system tanked or you got a new drive. And They re transfer the content its still secure there is no sharing etc, it makes sense and is fair so I hope they do that. A one time ex fer is a horrible horrible idea that I will not support with any money.
