Sorry Tiberium, EA says you've been canceled

After being slapped with a delay or two and being given no explanation to why, today EA made the announcement that the Command & Conquer based FPS Tiberium has been canceled and is no longer in development.
EA studio head in charge of the game, Mike Verdu explained in an email to the press that "the game had fundamental design challenges from the start" and that Tiberium was ultimately canceled due to these flawed design decisions not being able to be corrected.
Poor Tiberium, you weren't loved by all, but you weren't hated by all either. Your trailer piqued our interest, but just couldn't get the job done. As a way of saying goodbye, we embedded your debut trailer after the break. Rest peacefully.

That really sucks. I can see where EA would see fundamental design problems with FPS + Squad control but I definitely hope that they go back to Command and Conquer + FPS at some day, that concept has real potential.

Anyone ever play Battlezone (1998 Version) on the PC. That game was awesome. It was a FPS/RTS a lil more heavy on the RTS but still a great game nonetheless.
Looks like this was going for the same mix too. oh well.

I was actually hoping for this, Savage 1 and 2 did something like this and that was a lot of fun. FPS would of been even more kickass.

Was this the game that was going to have the gun that changed functions/shapes depending on what you wanted to do with it?

Wow I was literally just looking this game up today wondering what happened to it and wikipedia said Q1 2009.

If I recalled my youthful days of playing C&C 1, after you complete the game, they always had a sneak preview of a mechwarrior game with the 'mechanical man' song playing. Guess what, that never happened as well, looks like C&C is doomed to be RTS only (renegade was a nice try)...

Haha EA's making all the wrong calls this month! There goes the only game I was going to buy which was being published by them. =/
All well.

The real problem started with them placing Chris Plummer in charge. The dude had no idea how to make a video game and had mostly marketing experience - no actual game dev experience other then a few nightmare projects at EALA. He didn't listen to any of the more experienced staff and changed his mind every few months, causing the team to churn and burn things over and over. The project ended up costing as much as a Hollywood movie and wasting years of people's time. You simply cannot succeed when the guy at the head of the project has no idea what he's making, and no idea how to really do it. I'm amazed they let him churn and burn for 4 years on it. Sad... there were some great ideas in the game and some great people on the team.

They're better off canceling it than getting a shitty game in the end.
