Video: Halo Wars 'Field Trip to Harvest' trailer

Just as Mr. Geoff Keighley promised, a new Halo Wars trailer titled Field Trip to Harvest recently aired over on Gametrailers (it's their exclusive, don'tcha know) and it gives us our first taste of what the Halo Wars storyline is all about. And in typical Halo fashion, the trailer is hella' entertaining, visually impressive and quite the informative piece of video. Check out the trailer embedded after the break.
We also wanted to say that if the presented images are the actual in-game cut scenes, then man oh man will we be impressed. It's freakin' beautiful! Oh, and for the geeky Halo folks in the crowd, our own Richard wanted to point out that the the main Elite towards the end of the video is wearing the Arbiter's armor. That means he'd be the Arbiter Elite that was bestowed the "honor" prior to the Arbiter we came to know in the Halo games. Geektacular!
[Thanks, Robert]

... odd
Scotsman @ Oct 5th 2008 2:27AM
Odd way to start the comments..
Is it true that the footage is In-Engine? I will be very surprised if it is, considering what we have seen thus far.
Steven M @ Oct 5th 2008 2:44AM
i dont think this cutscene is in engine, here is an actual gameplay clip http://www.gametrailers.com/player/36232.html
0ldb0y @ Oct 5th 2008 2:50AM
Looks too good to be in-engine. It reminded me very much of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. And I mean that as a compliment. Definitely some amazing stuff.
Steven M @ Oct 5th 2008 2:39AM
WTF????
Steven M @ Oct 5th 2008 2:42AM
These cinematics are beautiful and the gameplay's graphics are very good looking to....stupid micro$oft has to close ensemble after halo wars...i was hoping for an age of empires 4 from ensemble...
DemonGSides @ Oct 5th 2008 12:10PM
Part of me thinks that Ensemble knew, and instead of just putting out a shit game, they're showing Microsoft that they've got some serious fucking talent, and are sticking it to them with this game.
Make them think twice about killing off a major studio.
Urza @ Oct 5th 2008 12:31PM
I thought halo fanboys said Halo didn't need to be photo realistic like gears? That's freakin beautiful! I wish Halo 3 looks half that good.
birdshake @ Oct 5th 2008 2:54AM
"it's their exclusive, don'tcha know"
Don'tcha know? Are you Sarah Palin?
Feedback @ Oct 5th 2008 5:38AM
Gametrailers are MAVRIX.
Cody @ Oct 5th 2008 4:01AM
I believe that on GameTrailers TV, one of those guys actually said that this is the first cutscene in the game.
Headgear782 @ Oct 5th 2008 4:12AM
that was friggin sweet
Shade ONE @ Oct 5th 2008 4:35AM
wow, one of the best cutscenes i have seen in a looong time, halo wars is going to be amazing
Dartmerc @ Oct 5th 2008 11:06PM
This does look impressive.
I'm a PS3 fan(boy), but this game has really caught my eye so far, I saw the brute concept artwork a couple of weeks back and if the game is filled with units that look that sweet it should be a blast to play, and Ensemble has the knowhow to make it strategic and deep as well.

is it me or is the AI 'Serina' really hot?
Crackrjakk @ Oct 5th 2008 8:10AM
Wow! Color me impressed! Question: Not to start a geek war or anything, but does it really matter if the cutscenes are in-engine. I mean, we know what the game looks like, and it looks good - so if the cut scenes look like this, that's not a bad thing, right?
The killer part to me is the clear focus on story, or at least the trailer would indicate. If Halo Wars is filled with scenes like that, it'll make Bungie's "storytelling" abilities look to be on par with Teletubby material.
Demolition Elmo @ Oct 5th 2008 8:17AM
EH OOOOOOOOOWWWW!!!!
shenlong77 @ Oct 5th 2008 9:34AM
the entrance to that forerunner structure looks identical to the one the Covenant are defending from the human attack on the original E3 Halo Wars trailer... hmmm...
Conor @ Oct 5th 2008 9:34AM
If they made a halo movie,I'd like it to be done like that!
Good trailer, does anyone think the halo universe is becoming real "serious" with itself now?
ScottishPrik @ Oct 5th 2008 10:31AM
You'd have to be pretty stupid if you thought they were in-game.
SPARTAN 294 @ Oct 5th 2008 11:58AM
Ironic isn't it ? They specifically said on the show "This is the first cutscene of the game leading up to the first mission."
slimshady @ Oct 5th 2008 11:32AM
Is this available on marketplace?
ryan @ Oct 5th 2008 2:25PM
well, we lied. and no it was not as good for me as it was for you.
Tom @ Oct 5th 2008 3:13PM
I've got to admit, I was skeptical for a while on if Ensemble would actually be putting effort into Halo Wars, or if they'd just churn out a piece of crap. I'm not thinking that anymore.
AnthonyGalindoX @ Oct 5th 2008 4:20PM
I can't believe someone would mistake this for in game graphics. Also, I don't know if anyone here played it but did the Marine at the end sound a little bit like the main character from Uncharted? I hope so because he was pretty good in that game.
Arnon @ Oct 5th 2008 6:47PM
Reminds me of Nathan Hale or w/e from Resistance 2 haha.
seriousam @ Oct 5th 2008 4:35PM
hey guys, on the official halo wars site there's a concept art painting with a spartan in it, link here: http://www.halowars.com/images/screenshots/wallpaper.aspx?s=unsc_basecamp_1024.jpg
I dont know if this means there'll be a spartan in the game's storyline or if we'll be able to recruit spartans, but its a pretty sick pic
seriousam @ Oct 5th 2008 4:59PM
and remember, the arbiters were used for suicidal missions. they were not expected to live. just food for thought.
Peter @ Oct 5th 2008 5:17PM
you can see spartans in the first trailer. so i guess you can.
"this is spartan group omega, if they want war, we'll give em war."
seriousam @ Oct 5th 2008 5:20PM
o ya i forgot about the ones in the first trailer
Lim%u03BB @ Oct 5th 2008 5:46PM
These are pre-rendered, not even Crysis on max looks that good
Scotsman @ Oct 5th 2008 6:44PM
I didn't "mistake" that for In-engine footage. I had heard it was and so I posed a question to the community.
Fire Fawkes @ Oct 5th 2008 8:32PM
I want this game and I want it now...
Is it here yet? No...
How about now?
mergedwarrior @ Oct 6th 2008 11:54PM
Again, the Arbiter in this game is different from that of Halo 2-3, as the video notes that it takes place "20 years prior to Halo event".
Obviously, this one dies.
David @ Oct 6th 2008 8:01AM
Did anyone else notice that in the conversation between the two Elites they talk about "the infection defiling the relic"
Flood reference perhaps?
joe @ Oct 6th 2008 1:37PM
The tone of the cut scene compared to the tone of the game play seem far off from each other.
