Bethesda's Fallout 3 has gone gold

It's finished. Bethesda's little massive RPG that could, Fallout 3 has officially gone gold and development is officially complete. Just in time to make it's October 28th release! And, honestly, we don't have to hype up Fallout 3 any more than it already is. Truth be told, Fallout 3 is going to be your RPG crack for the foreseeable year or two. How do we know? Because Bethesda developed it and anything Bethesda does is pure ... well, gold.

Honestly, this is the first time i think Bethesda may let me down. Which is why i'll hold off on Fallout 3 for a few months. It just seems like a bad mix of Counter Strike and Bioshock.

I heard that. Oblivion... now dat some gooood sh!t

As much as I love my 360, I might just have to get this for the PC. I got Oblivion for my 360 and loved it, but after I beat the game a few times, I lost the interest in playing it. Once I saw all the mods that were created for it on the PC, I decided that it would have been more fun for the PC.
I'm having the same conflict with Farcry 2. Anyone have thoughts about that? PC or 360?
ryan @ Oct 9th 2008 2:27PM
like Oblivion, I will get Fallout 3 for the achievements, chat with my friends as they play it online. then when all is finished, i will download it (hey i technically own a copy right?) and mod that with whatever goodies people create. :)

IMO nothing beats a mouse keyboard combo for controlling first person games, add to that the factor that you can mod the hell out of PC games, and it seems pretty obvious that it is better to get it for the PC. That said, my PC is hooked up to a 15" monitor and my 360 my 40" LCD, so I prefer to game on that.

I can't play games with a mouse and keyboard - feels too much like I'm at work.
ryan @ Oct 9th 2008 3:03PM
i actually play with a 360 controller when i game on my PC. playing with a Key and Mouse feels akward after awhile. sure it's less accurate but for any type of game (not RTS, and arcade stick for Fighting) a controller just feels more comfy.

And it's up for downloads as wel... The pirates got it really quick.
MC Double Def DP @ Oct 9th 2008 2:15PM
I would hope it's gone gold. It was pirated yesterday! DONT COPY THAT FLOPPY!!!
Graeme Q @ Oct 9th 2008 4:44PM
The copy was a review copy (apparently) plus the game actually went gold yesterday :)

Oblivion quickly starting collecting dust (Xbox 360 collectors edition) after good games starting to trickle out on the the system. Oblivion was nice but quickly lost its fun factor once every dungeon looked the same, leveling and getting new abilities did NOT scale well with increased toughness of enemies, exploration revealed nothing of interest or diverseness...
I don't know, maybe this game will be different... and maybe it'll just be Oblivion with a redesigned body and a few different interior features and not really be that much different than the 2006 model.
CaptNink @ Oct 9th 2008 5:49PM
So says you.
Speak for yourself, pal.

While my opinions of Oblivion are mostly positive, I have to agree with your points.
B-rad @ Oct 9th 2008 2:21PM
does this mean Bethesda is released to begin work on the next Elder Scrolls??!? Man I sure hope so. Fallout 3 was the only thing standing in the way of my beloved Elder Scrolls V.
Duke @ Oct 9th 2008 2:57PM
Agreed. Lets hope the do start on a new ES project.
Arnie @ Oct 9th 2008 2:30PM
[sarcasm] I see what you did with the 'gold' reference.[/sarcasm]
Ron @ Oct 9th 2008 3:04PM
I'm very excited about this game. Also being that Elder Scrolls 4 is one of my favorite games, I'm sure I'll love the play style. However just like others I'm torn between getting it for XBOX 360 or PC. I think I'll get it on 360 for the achievements and when all the mods start coming for the PC version, I'll to ahead and buy it.
Tony @ Oct 9th 2008 3:10PM
I don't know what to do between this and Fable 2. I want to play them both right away, but that's my typical gamer mind at work.
Someday.
DBoyFlex @ Oct 9th 2008 3:54PM
Yay, happy me. I was hoping for some news out of Bethesda. Good news. I am way excited for this. I liked Morrowind and oblivion and have loved the videos and screens and info released thus far. Day 1 pick up on this little package.
refinedsugar @ Oct 9th 2008 4:49PM
If it's too much like Oblivion, I'm out. Call me a hard nosed purist, but as a fan of the series, I find it really hard to believe they are going to be able to replicate everything the first two games in the series were.
Starsmore @ Oct 9th 2008 5:15PM
I heard through the grapevine that the first release candidate just hit their internal testing last week. Yay for zero-day patching!
Welp, I guess in this day and age of Internet-connected consoles, shipping a console title without the need of a patch right of the box is a pipedream.
Christopher Ware @ Oct 9th 2008 6:10PM
well, its on the bittorrents already so why wait?
Loonyx @ Oct 23rd 2008 1:11AM
yeah so....how single player games are dead.
How can you make a single player game in this day and age? Let alone a single player rpg... that is just laugable bethesda!
what were u thinking lol.
