Rumor: Marvel vs. Capcom 2 headed to the 360 [update]

Update: Jonah F. pointed out that Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is a backwards compatible title, meaning there there's a possibility it will release as an Xbox Original versus the XBLA. We're cheering for the XBLA.
Marvel vs. Capcom fanboys rejoice! Word on the collective internet street is that the old-school fighting game Marvel vs. Capcom 2 will be releasing to the Xbox Live Arcade or as an Xbox Original in the not too distant future. The rumor stems from the game's listing on the ESRB ratings search website where the game was tagged with both Xbox 360 and PS3 descripters. Though, since its discover, the listing has mysteriously disappeared. No matter, we have enough photographic proof (see above) as we need. So, fanboys, how excited would you be for some HD Marvel vs. Capcom 2 XBLA action?

HOLY SH*T YES. BEST FIGHTING GAME EVER
DeadPlasmaCell @ Oct 13th 2008 3:25PM
I've said it once and I'll say it 3 more times. I'll pay any amount of money for this game as long as there is either a music volume feature to turn that bullshit off or the music is totally remixed and by remixed I mean taken out completely.

"im gonna take you for a ride...dunna dunna..."
god.. the nightmares of that song

Here's another source from a few days ago, that has nothing to do with this one:

You would at least mentioned where this info originated from which is "neogaf" forums:/
Anyway, I don't think it will be released anytime near soon, because Capcom needs to release Street Fighter HD Remix first before they can start getting this game out to public. We will may hear more after the release of SF-HDR, game will possibly be released 2009:/

This game is a must buy. I hope its not over 800MS points.
Gemini Ace @ Oct 13th 2008 3:48PM
It'll be 1200 or more. I guarantee it.
Mwood645 @ Oct 13th 2008 3:44PM
Im so glad I soldmy ps2 version for $100 a month ago
Kurt88 @ Oct 13th 2008 4:01PM
Why would it be listed for PS2 and original XBOX? I doubt it's an arcade title because why else would they have it listed for the original systems?
Nonetheless, I love the game and would buy it no matter what!
Gemini Ace @ Oct 13th 2008 3:47PM
I'll be picking this up on the PS3 so as not to support the XBLA. Plus, the D-Pad will kill it.
DeadPlasmaCell @ Oct 13th 2008 3:53PM
Who the hell uses the D-pad in a fighting games?
Chin-Poh @ Oct 13th 2008 3:55PM
I do, I'm just not a fan of arcade sticks. And I hope the 360's pad will be okay for this game, it was for Soul Calibur 4 but Sony's Dualshock is better for fighting games IMO.
Tony @ Oct 13th 2008 11:47PM
Why not support XBLA...? All of the pricing on things between the two has been the same so I can't see it being the "sticking it to MS's prices!" line of thinking. I'm confused.
I can agree with the dpad, but I hate the segmented one on the PS3/2/1 too. I wish I could find a cheap place to get that old 360 Nyko controller with the nice dpad.
Gemini Ace @ Oct 14th 2008 4:36PM
I'm not supporting the XBLA based on the fact that they are leading the charge on high prices. And the PSN actually puts games on sale. And not the crap games.

So I heard this rumor earlier this weekend and decided to dust off my Dreamcast. I gotta say that I was less than impressed. It felt sluggish and the graphics were nothing to write home about. Lets just say that this game was much better in my memory than in reality of 2008. Hopefully they will be giving it some HD love before release.
Also it was my understanding that Marvel pulled their license from Sega, and they had to stop making MvC games so how come we are now seeing a release on XBLA?
Dadidito @ Oct 13th 2008 4:23PM
Hell yeah. Leaves me a little bit melancholy though, with SC releasing this year and now this..... my dreamcast will finally take a well deserved rest. Like Master chief they will be called upon when needed.... :(
Phocas @ Oct 13th 2008 5:01PM
This would make my friends and I very very happy. It is my favorite fighting game of all time. Please keep your ear to the ground and keep us updated with any developments!!
Thanks X3F!!
Kenny @ Oct 13th 2008 5:11PM
Yea, its about time, i hope this is true. best fighting game of all time.
Neo Asuma @ Oct 13th 2008 5:08PM
Yes, yes, yes!!! I am totally stoked now. This is a day-one purchase for me!
Wasabi Ghost @ Oct 13th 2008 5:46PM
This is EXCELLENT news!
gaymerxbox360 @ Oct 13th 2008 6:18PM
OMG yes!
ice~ @ Oct 13th 2008 8:07PM
OMG THIS MAKES MY PENIS TINGLE!!!!!!!!
ilango_biz @ Oct 14th 2008 7:17PM
Hell yes, this saves me from dropping a mint on Ebay to get the original for xbox
Ranger Z @ Oct 13th 2008 9:56PM
id love it backwards compatible but i think this is the only game that sells for 80$ used (on gamestop)....
much rather drop them points on xbla
Capt Moco @ Oct 13th 2008 10:55PM
IF this is true then they need to fix the game, because the backwards compatibility is broken. Sprite glitches galore.
Til then my DC sits in front of my TV with MvC2 sitting in it with all its VGA glory. Beautiful game and plays as good as it did back in the day.
Only fighting games on the DC that I enjoyed more was Garou and 3rd Strike
MrE Nunez @ Oct 13th 2008 11:11PM
Yea since it shows ps2 and xbox it could just be referring to the original games...since (some) ps3's and the 360 is backwards compatible (some games, this being one of them) it could just be reffering to that disc. They could definetely make a bunch on mula if they put this as Downloadable, I was about to buy it from ebay for $60 bucks!! I was outbid by a last second bidder!! I really want this game though and hope this happens!
Tony @ Oct 13th 2008 11:45PM
Have games typically been rerated on 360 if they were released as Xbox Originals?
It still doesn't really explain the sites with images of the game's title up on Parternet, though... unless I've missed something there.
Ravage NZ @ Oct 14th 2008 12:47AM
Xbox games already have ratings. "Jonah F" doesn't know wtf he's talking about.
This game would only get new rating for Xbox 360 if it were coming to XBLA or a retail Xbox 360 release.
Majiq @ Oct 14th 2008 8:05AM
I agree with Ravage. Why would they rerate this game if it was not going to run natively or emulated on the system? If that's the case, why do the not rerate all off the backcompat games?
jhoody @ Oct 14th 2008 11:14AM
bring back project justice and rival schools!!!!!!!!!! they were good also
Gamer MAN @ Dec 9th 2008 5:44PM
the only reason I think this is fake is because it doesn't list it as a Sega Dreamcast Game and I actually have it for that system
