But do you get the map editor on the console versions or is it only on PC?
LiqwidZero @ Oct 16th 2008 2:05PM
Please dismiss my ignorant comment. I finally gave google a try and found out it's on the 360.
Alex @ Oct 16th 2008 2:17PM
I was about to point out that X3F wouldn't bother posting about it if it was only on PC, then I read your second comment.

this game just went on to my "Must buy upon release" list.
Merehorseplay @ Oct 16th 2008 2:21PM
This game is gonna be sweet, I already paid for this game in full. Map editor on the last Far Cry was awesome. I just hope enough gamers buy this with Fallout 3 and Gears 2 so close to releasing. I almost didn't buy this game because gamestop had a big ad behind the counter that said 20% trade in credit towards Fallout 3. If I was in to the whole RPG thing I would have bought it.
MaxRadical @ Oct 16th 2008 2:27PM
This looks great n' all.
But that music... I just can't get that scene from, Big, out of my head.
Reeeally off putting.
MaxRadical @ Oct 16th 2008 2:28PM
Haha, just realised it's cannon and not the song I was thinking of.
Still makes me think of big. And still off putting.
DudeRed @ Oct 16th 2008 2:37PM
Ha! Yeah, it had that feel to it didn't it?
I think the song you were thinking of was chopsticks. I don't remember the name of the other song they were playing...Heart and something else. Great movie!

I can't help feeling that dreadful feeling of: "It can't really be that good..."
I remember FC:I on the 360 had so much potential but didn't really use it at all.
Neuromancer @ Oct 16th 2008 2:32PM
Agreed, that game did not impress me at all.
Anticrawl @ Oct 16th 2008 4:42PM
You do realize that Farcry for the 360 was a port of the Xbox 1 game that was altered from the PC game right?
DudeRed @ Oct 16th 2008 2:39PM
I really enjoyed the first frycry for the pc but didn't have too much fun with the xbox or the 360 version. It looks like they really kicked it up a notice on this one.
Neeko @ Oct 16th 2008 2:44PM
I cant ait to build me some sniper maps. OK this GOW2, COD and End Game are my 2008 games to buy. Ill be set for a while maybe some Mirrors Edge if my GF wants to be nice.
i cant wait to see what other people design for maps.
Tony Bowman @ Oct 16th 2008 3:37PM
this is going to be the LittleBigPlanet of shooters. Halo 3's forge was a great beginning, but the sheer scale of this is amazing. I only hope you get an relatively high object "budget." The videos they've released about the editor suggest that you'll run out of imagination before you will "budget," but after some fun ideas in Forge aborted because of a budget shortfall, I'm a little wary.
Either way, I was dead set on picking up Fallout 3 next week, and now i'm not so sure anymore.
fuck.
Mr.U2 @ Oct 16th 2008 6:53PM
Wow... I would buy this for the multiplayer ALONE! Not to mention the 40+ hour (is that right?) single player campaign. I really hope it ends up being as good as I'm hoping.
MC Hampster @ Oct 16th 2008 11:35PM
This trailer is featuring the PC version of the map editor, which is much more full featured than the 360 version. You can even see it in the trailer when they are editing in an obvious Windows application.
The map editor for Far Cry 2 on the 360 will be similar to the original version. You are allowed to edit a heightmap and place a bunch of objects in the map. While this is better than 99% of FPS's on consoles, it is nowhere near the editor that you get on the PC.
ryan @ Oct 17th 2008 2:16AM
i'll bite. so what more can we do on the PC version?
MC Hampster @ Oct 17th 2008 10:11AM
With the Xbox map editor, you get a large flat square surface. As you move along that surface, you can raise or lower it. Then, you can place weapons, items, foliage, etc. on the map. As an example of what you couldn't do: you can't create something like a cave or a natural land arch because all you can do is lower or raise the land in any one spot.
With the PC version, you can create actual geometry. You can create things like that giant pyramid demosntrated, or even those giant statues.
