John Schappert: 360 can run MGS4
Frankenstein's rumor just keeps on shambling. In the wake of a Konami representative saying that the company was "actively looking into" a 360 version of Metal Gear Solid 4, concerns about the 360's power have come back into play. Speaking to MCV, John Schappert, Microsoft's corporate vice president of Xbox Live, did his best to quell such thoughts saying, "I can't speak on behalf of Konami, but I can shed more light on the fact that we definitely have the power to run MGS4." He adds that there are several games running in "true high-def" on 360 and not on PS3.
Schappert also voices his personal desire to see MGS4 on 360 saying, "I'm certainly in the fan club that would love to see Kojima-san's masterpiece come our way," adding that it would be another example of a franchise that was previously exclusive to another console making its way to the Xbox 360. Was there any confirmation that the game is actually heading to 360? No. No there wasn't. Move along.

want some instant RROD with that?
no thanks

Why won't this die?
The only reason 360 fanboys want MGS 4 on "their" console is so they can rub Sony fanboys' noses in it.
MGS 4 is worth at least one play-through, but, gents, you'll still be able to make babies after you're done.
vanhelsingh @ Oct 16th 2008 3:01PM
"I can't speak on behalf of Konami, but I can shed more light on the fact that we definitely have the power to run MGS4." That is the funniest thing i've heard a professional say. He's basically just thrown the ball in Konami's court. Now it's their turn to reply.
Jawon @ Oct 16th 2008 3:02PM

LOL i think the 1 full of crap is u lol how ur gonna fit 32 gb in a 360 disc ????
ryan @ Oct 16th 2008 3:49PM
Muthafuckin compression on 3 discs FTW!
Arnon @ Oct 16th 2008 3:59PM
Compression surprises many, Carlos.. GTA was like.. 30-40 gigs of uncompressed data on the PS3 and was 7 gigs on the 360.. with close to no difference in performance.

Carlos, umm, there have been multidisc games on the 360 and they were only $60.
I think multidisc would make the game better. For those that haven't played the game on the ps3 the game has to install each chapter. So if you want to go back to a previous chapter you have to install it. The install takes about 4-8 minutes. I think this is done because the bluray drive is slow.
So, instead of having installs I think if you have dvd discs it could run of the discs because it is fast enough. With the fall dashboard update you can put all the discs on the hdd and that should even be faster.
I liked the game. Though I beat it within one rental period. The only reason to replay it is to go after some of the achievements. The multiplayer sucks.
Kevin PSN: Keviseg15 @ Oct 16th 2008 3:35PM
you guys always get this confused
installs are a one time thing while swapping out the disk is obviously a thing u have to do all the time.

which CLEARLY didn't kill us in the PSOne/PS2 era!
Mr Bunky @ Oct 16th 2008 3:26PM
Guarantee that if it ever did hit the 360, it would be visually superior than the PS3. It may have to be on a few discs, but it's worth it for better quality.
Mcfail @ Oct 16th 2008 3:28PM
Let them keep it on the PS3 only, otherwise all those PS3 fanboys will feel stupid for buying an overpriced Bluray player lol.
jarhead906 @ Oct 16th 2008 3:50PM
Wow. It almost feels like two years ago when you said that...
But considering we are in the present, that kind of fanboy...um...burn?...doesn't hold anymore.
I could respond in kind by saying that you paid too much for a machine that fails if you turn it on, complete with three bright red lights, but I won't. (Oops, sorry, I did).
Other than that, yes, keep it on PS3. If I only had a 360, I certainly wouldn't want a dumbed down port on multiple discs. And no, installs on the HDD wouldn't work: what about all those suckers with the Arcade/Core systems?
AoE @ Oct 16th 2008 7:07PM
dude, I am as big a 360 fanboy as any on this site... but seriously? over-priced bluray player? It's one of the cheaper players on the market last I checked... Also it's one of, if not the, best player on the market, did you know Criterion uses a PS3 as their reference bluray player?
There are lots of ways to talk shit about the PS3 if you so desire... but it's capabilities/price as a bluray player aren't among them.
dunnypop @ Oct 16th 2008 3:39PM
seriously... who cares.
Since the game has already been released on the PS3 for 3 months now, by the time it comes to the 360, everyone would have lost interest, and it'll reinforce the fact that the game won't do well on the 360 (in the eyes of Konami).
Look at Unreal.
Shin @ Oct 16th 2008 3:42PM
Makes my day better seeing how Xbots whine how overpriced PS3 is and MGS4 is the only game and whatever. :)
Enjoy your cheap piece of plastic with a dead HD-format, crappy exclusive games (exept Fable II and GoW's) monthly Live fee and three beautiful lights on your console.
Playstation 3 will always be one step ahead, with true exclusive games (God of War 3, FF Versus XIII, GT 5, Killzone 2, White Knight Story, MotorStorms, Resistance's, Uncharted, WarHawk, Heaveny Sword, Folklore, LittleBigPlanet, LA Noire and such), free online, built in wifi, BluRay player (which is by the way STILL one of the best and cheapest on the market) and a console what doesn't die on you. ^^
Heh, X360 and it's multidisk. Reminds me good old PS1 one days. :D
SytheMaster @ Oct 16th 2008 3:52PM
Well out of those franchises I'm only interested in resistance and killzone. And ps3's do die, my mate Bhavin's got his disk drive dieing on him earlier this week!
carlos @ Oct 16th 2008 3:55PM
LOL dude im not cryn bout the price and i have both systems im just sayn that i dont think is a game worth of more then 60 dls ,YET i mean i had play cool game on both consoles but nvm if hideo offer u MGS59 the grandson of liberty at $999.99 u'll buy it so nvm
ryan @ Oct 16th 2008 3:54PM
yes, PS3's do die. it's called the Yellow Dot of Doom.
Arnon @ Oct 16th 2008 4:02PM
Hmm.. XBOX had THE best hardware of any console of it's generation.. it outperformed the PS2 and Gamecube, and had the nicest looking games.. And do you know which console was still better? It was the PS2. Not because of it's hardware, but because it had such a large library of games.. It seems the 360 is doing what the PS2 did.
Devin @ Oct 17th 2008 11:08AM
What of 360's library is PS3 not getting in terms of 3rd party titles? Of those, how many of them are actually worth mentioning? Seriously, I hate people saying 360 has a vastly superior library when practically every 3rd party game that's out on it (that's worth playing) is also out on PS3.
Livi70590 @ Oct 16th 2008 3:41PM
It's not the best in the Metal Gear series, in fact probably the worst. I'd imagine that a lot of 360 owners are not up to date with the story from the previous 7 games, and MGS4's story is strongly linked with the events of the older titles. If Halo 4 came out on Playstation would many Playstation owners know what was happening? Probably not.
Point - It's perhaps best if it stays on the Playstation.
ryan @ Oct 16th 2008 3:45PM
this just in: many many PS2/PSOne owners actually own a 360 because of price point and lost PS3 exclusives.
Livi70590 @ Oct 16th 2008 3:52PM
Knock knock, over 250 million Playstation and Playstation 2 consoles have been sold, and about 15 million 360's.
So no, a very small percentage of PS/PS2 owners actually own a 360 because of price point and lost PS3 exclusives.
ryan @ Oct 16th 2008 3:58PM
that doesn't say anything about PS2 to PS3 converts. and the PS brand has been out alot longer so i would expect it sell more by now.
I along with many others have jumped on board the 360 because of the price point and FF13, DMC4 Tekken 6 and VF5 lost exclusives.
Carlos @ Oct 16th 2008 3:44PM
yeah i know that was shitty xD had to see snake smokin xD but i don't think they are gonna give us 2 or 3 discs for same price thats what im tryin to say and i dont know any 360 game multi-disc i mean i know 1 disc game + special edition crap xD i mean im not against it but i bought halo3 se and was like 79 and think it wasnt worth it
ryan @ Oct 16th 2008 3:48PM
*Slap!* wake up and smell some common sense man! Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Infinite Undiscovery. ALL multi-disc games at $59.99 when launched.
*Slap, Slap!*
Fire Fawkes @ Oct 16th 2008 3:53PM
Lost Odyssey immediately comes to mind (four disks I believe), as well as Blue Dragon (3 disks) and Infinite Undiscovery (2). All of those were priced at the standard 59.99. There is no reason to believe that Metal Gear (multi-disk form of course) would cost any more than the standard new game price.
Fire Fawkes @ Oct 16th 2008 3:54PM
...And then ryan beats me to it! *sigh*

Reisi9593 @ Oct 16th 2008 3:58PM
well, i like both xbox 360 and my ps3. so that would be nice to see it hit the 360, but the ONLY reason i want to see it is because....ONLINE. Now i may be a Newb at this but, since PS3 must login through a Konami ID. It would be VERY VERY cool if Xbox 360 could ALSO do that and connect to the PS3 servers, well it will be just a MGO Server then. But anyways, Ps3 and Xbox360 owners could be able to battle each other. I think this would require a contract with Sony and Microsoft's Game Divisions but it would be worth it.

There will not be any Konami ID Kojima himself hates the system. Metal Gear Online is where we will see the most improvements with the Region Locking in the PS3 version being chucked out on its arse for the 360 port.
StingerVI @ Oct 16th 2008 6:22PM
PS3: 360 can't run MGS4
Kojima: 360 can't run MGS4
360: Yes it can

PS3: 360 can't run MGS4
Kojima: 360 can* run MGS4
360: Yes it can
He stated that it was possible on the 360 before it came out ;x
Dirtgoblin @ Oct 16th 2008 6:35PM
lol, this is so funny how all the PS3 fanboys always have to come into the 360 forums trying to proclaim the superiority of their machine. Wow, if that doesn't show their insecurity then I don't know what does.
Point is who cares if MGS4 comes to the 360, we've got Fable II, Gears 2, Left 4 Dead, and Alan Wake coming soon. I'm more then happy with those, so run along PS3 fanboys and cry because nobody is buying your console anymore since the 360 price drop....
AoE @ Oct 16th 2008 7:11PM
Alan Awake isn't coming soon, just a trailer. He's kicking it with Duke Nukem I hear...
Efeez1986 @ Oct 16th 2008 7:55PM
Xbox fanboys need to stop being so insecure. Who cares if it can run on 360 or not, it's not going to the 360. Plus this is a MICROSOFT EMPLOYEE saying it can run on the 360, not a person from Konami who actually worked on the game. You guys spend way too much time talking about PS3 exclusives when the name of this site is Xbox360 fanboy.
ryan @ Oct 17th 2008 1:02PM
hunh... and people accuse this site of talking about 360 exclusives like Halo 3 too much...
Q @ Oct 17th 2008 3:43AM
There are substantiations to the rumor.., I used to work at Konami and still have friends that work there.., and back when the rumor started I was told that it was running on a 360 so thats not the question. I wont say anymore because I did sign a non disclosure and I wouldnt want to get any of my friends there in trouble.., as I wouldnt do that to any of my former colleages from the game industry. From a product development stand point think of what really goes on behind the scenes and what really needs to happen and then does transpire after a game is made. It's not that that game will or WON'T run on the system. To date theres NO SINGLE GAME that wont run on the 360 that is on and is being made for PS3. Whats really in question is the licensing, kojima and the companies go ahead, the exclusivity contracts time length etc. Think outside the box people. Honestly I think that if Konami doesnt act fast enough.., it wont sell very well. Remember we saw that with the xbox version of subsistance. Boy was that a nightmare to do clean up localization on. I had to do that AND Z.O.E. at the same time LOL. glad i dont have to anymore~Q
vanquish @ Oct 16th 2008 11:05PM
Well, it can definitely be done as a multi-disc game. The only real problem with porting MGS4, is the two hours of cutscenes, which take up a hell of a lot of space (HD video).
Here is the PS3's advantage, it eliminates the need for multi-discs and disc swapping.
So it's primarily an issue with the space on DVDs (which isn't a problem for most games) not the capabilities of the 360.
The 360 has the better memory/ GPU anyway, so matching the graphics shouldn't be a problem.
Blaze463 @ Oct 17th 2008 12:25PM
Ha, you 360 fanboys are so funny. Especially that Ryan guy, who is unaware that the PS3 has more exclusives than the 360 =)
ryan @ Oct 17th 2008 1:04PM
that's not the argument i'm trying to make, guy.
i'm saying that the 360 is more afforable for the games that both systems play. and everyday it seems the PS3 is losing exclusives to the 360.
Blaze463 @ Oct 17th 2008 3:54PM
Wait, what? You don't even know that more 360 exclusives have gone to PS3 than vice-versa? That's sad.
Seriously, man. All your posts are nothing but fanboyism. It's annoying. I come to this site for news, not to hear about how much my PS3 sucks.
And before you say it, I DO know that this site is called xbox360FANBOY.
ryan @ Oct 17th 2008 6:28PM
where have i once said that the PS3 sucks? never.
mainstay exclusives of the PlayStation brand have gone multiplat. the 360 exclusives you are talking about are released a good 6 months to a year after being on the 360. besides VF5, the PS3 exclusives are usually released simultaneously with the 360 ones.
i'm simply giving good, solid reasons of affordable gaming. the games that do count are multiplat, and the cheapest way to play MOST of today's hottest games is an Arcade 360. which so happens to mimic the PS2 in it's pricing and access to said hot games of today (which is why i said PS2 owners jumped onto the 360, like myself).
and btw, from reading your posts, you are no better than me in respects to being a fanboy-
"I come to this site for news, not to hear about how much my PS3 sucks."
more like "I come to this site to defend the PS3, not to hear how owning a 360 can be an affordable way to game." so kindly STFU.
ryan @ Oct 17th 2008 6:36PM
also btw, i see the PS3 as a great value for the customer that wants to take advantage of his HD setup, they have some awesome exclusives that i can't wait to play.
but i, along with many, feel they don't need one right now since they have a 360 and are willing to wait for a price drop on the PS3. with top PS3 exclusives coming to the 360 it's just making that wait alot longer for us.
and that's it. no hard feelings (i take back that STFU comment) but i do stand by what i said about cheap gaming on the 360 and it's parallel to the PS2 days.
vanquish @ Oct 17th 2008 8:37PM
I agree with the observation, that the 360 is the new PS2. I have both systems, and while I like the PS3, I find that its more fun to play on the 360, ie better/more games, better graphics, better controller.
So this sees my PS3 relegated to a media/dvd player role, and I also take advantage of its built in wi fi to download demos, so I have like a 20 demo collection on the PS3, which is great for sampling all the new games that come out.
But the 360 is excellent value for the money, paying half price for equivalent capabilities is fantastic. Makes Nintendo seem like they're getting away with daylight robbery with the Wii, charging so much for such old and underpowered hardware.
