Video: XNA community games on the NXE
Just posted over on Major Nelson's website is a fresh New Xbox Experience video that takes a look at community games and the system that'll be used to bring content to the Marketplace. In the vid, Major sits down with the XNA community team's Kathleen Sanders to discuss the process, who can create games and what we should see heading into November 19th. It looks to be quite the democratic process and one that should bring new experiences and possibilities to the 360.

For some reason I didn't put together that this would be launching at the same time. Sounds exciting.

those games whould be free right ? right ?
i mean whats the point of communety games if they cost money .
WTangoFoxtrot @ Oct 17th 2008 3:43PM
me thinks its upto the creators. but then again MS has the right to charge some amount for it i would imagine as they will be hosting the game in the end.
Tony @ Oct 17th 2008 3:53PM
I know some part of the process was creators being able to charge for the games. I'm sure not all of them will.
I don't think "community" implies they'll be free. It just implies anyone can try and make one.

That's a little harsh Chen! Why should hobbiest/semi-pro game developers not be compensated for their work?
Fafhrdd @ Oct 20th 2008 9:42AM
These games WILL NOT be free. The creator can select the price but the minimal amount is 400 points. MS will get a cut of the price so the creator will not able to give them out for free.
You can find out all about this and the program from their website....

Chen. No community games are 200, 400 or 800 MSP depending on what the developer chooses. They all have free trials though just like XBLA games
Doug @ Oct 17th 2008 4:04PM
I downloaded all the free-trial creator games that were posted after this was announced this spring. They were awesome. This is one of the most underrated parts of the new Xbox update.

So that's where Kathleen went to.. I was wondering what company she was going to after she left 1up
NukeAssault @ Oct 17th 2008 6:58PM
Indeed... i do miss the 1up show without her.
firerock @ Oct 17th 2008 4:29PM
Very smart, MS. Allow gaming crowd to bring traffic to your console and create a community for gamers to unite....bravo!

Oh wow, this is HUGE. Seriously, I don´t think we totally understand how amazing this is. Look at the iPhone. As soon as it was opened up, its been BLOOMING. Love it. Thank you Microsoft! (I dont say that often) =P

There's going to be a lot of crap games (I should know I'm putting the final touches on one now). It would be nice if you didn't have to charge money for your game. But at least all games will have a free trial.
birdshake @ Oct 18th 2008 10:46AM
Will the XNA games be sporting achievements?
Falryu @ Oct 20th 2008 2:30AM
I have been waiting for this update for quite a while since I plan to use this tool myself in the future to create my own videogame so I'm really excited for XNA to evolve with Community Games. I have never bought an arcade game on xbox live before but this games will mark my first expense. I do want to reward the makers for their effort.
I already want that arena game!
Fafhrdd @ Oct 20th 2008 9:44AM
CORRECTION: I misread the forum, the minimal is 200 points while you can pick three options: 200, 400, and 800.
