Major Nelson awarding a select few the NXE prior to its official release [update]
Update: Just to be clear, Major Nelson says to visit his website NEXT WEEK for the NXE giveaway surprise. So, don't be disappointed if there is no NXE handout this week.
Thanks to the handy transcription of GamePlay Unlimited, we now know that Major Nelson will be giving a few lucky 360 fanboys the chance to download the New Xbox Experience prior to its official release on November 19th.
Thanks to the handy transcription of GamePlay Unlimited, we now know that Major Nelson will be giving a few lucky 360 fanboys the chance to download the New Xbox Experience prior to its official release on November 19th.
Word comes from his latest podcast, where Major and E have a brief discussion regarding a listener receiving the NXE before anyone else. E inquires about the possibility of a MajorNelson.com visitor winning the chance to download the NXE early, to which Major answers, "that's pretty much what I'm saying." We don't know how or when, but we guess a few lucky MajorNelson.com visitors will be getting the NXE before it releases to the masses, allowing them to get a head start on their Avatar customization.

awesome! I hope they pick enough so that I can try it out!

I can wait. I need some good time with Fallout and Gears before pausing them to mess with the NXE. I am kinda skeptical about it. I bet it will be great, I just hope there are not any serious bugs in the update, ie game installs delete all of your previous game data, etc. I may wait a day or two and hear what is being said. With that said, I am looking way forward to it, but am happy waiting till official release.

I still don't think that I like the NXE. Or Avatars.
Deezul @ Oct 20th 2008 12:59PM
I think MS is going to have more fun with Avatars than Nintendo does. From the Inside Xbox clip Major does, where he spins around his avatar to make him dizzy, and the emotions they can show. Miis are kind of "static," other than occasionally blinking. And if they incorporate achievements into new articles or clothing, that'll be nice, too.

Here is what I don't get. They are going to make this already "complete" (they stated it was complete at TGS) NXE available for a few but the rest of us have to wait till the 19th? WTF? Seriously if it's done then release it already let everyone use it, as much as they are hyping it you would think they would be wanting to get it out to everyone ASAP.
Seeing as it launches 3 days before the launch 360's run out of the 3 years RROD warrenty. I hate to say it but I smell shenanigans....
Octantis @ Oct 20th 2008 2:23PM
I believe at TGS they said it was feature complete. In that all the major items were done and they weren't going to add any additional capabilities. But feature complete doesn't mean it has made it through testing on all the different xbox iterations.

Worldwide Nov. 19. I wonder how bad Microsoft's servers are going to crash as legions of hungry fanboys attempt to download NXE at the same time.
Ellianth @ Oct 21st 2008 1:31AM
Their servers probably won't crash. This isn't apple we're talking about.

i was at Best Buy's gaming invasion at dundas square in Toronto yesterday, and while waiting in line to PLAY GEARS 2, a 360 red ringer, lol, and a guy restarted it and the dashboard it went to was not the one i was used to seeing. im guessing it was the NXE, which i found to look pretty impressive. i didnt have enough time to get a picture, but my buddy got one of the RROD :)
xX FearHAVOK Xx @ Oct 20th 2008 3:43PM
a 360 red ringed** my bad
yolarrydabomb @ Oct 21st 2008 12:21AM
Lol NXE might caused it.
I hope Major gives us a file to get and not some stupid 1 time keys
todd @ Oct 20th 2008 3:47PM
Where's my IPTV?
orangpelupa @ Oct 20th 2008 7:35PM
MS just want to spread the download to a few days. to make their server not overloaded.
Jacob Rollin @ Oct 20th 2008 9:16PM
Nice work there. It really is! I mean Microsoft did a nice job copying Nintendo's Mii's and Playstation Home. Lmao. Microsoft, please come up with your own stuff please.
yolarrydabomb @ Oct 21st 2008 12:18AM
nigg- plz. the 360 avatars are way different then the nintendo.
oh did you know yahoo messenger have avatars that looks just like them expect 2D kind of?
So did MSN Messenger but that die off. Nintendo is not the first people that made avatars. Also Playstation Home is way different then this.
Jacob Rollin @ Oct 21st 2008 4:52PM
lmao at yolarrydobomb
Tungsten Plug @ Oct 23rd 2008 7:26PM
@Jacob Rollin.
You need to read your facts. Xbox has had the avatars in creation before Nintendo came out with the miis. Number 2, Home was announced before/with the launch of the PS3 and STILL HASN"T CAME OUT!! Xbox has beat them too it. I am glad sony is suffering. Xbox reigns supreme...AGAIN!
