Star Wars: The Old Republic "under consideration" for consoles
We're sure that quite a few of you had your eyeballs glued to the LucasArts and BioWare press conference yesterday, licking your lips at the announcement of Star Wars: The Old Republic, a new MMO from the same folks that brought us Knights of the Old Republic. If you read this website on a regular basis, it's also quite likely that you were disappointed that the word "console" seemed to be absent from the presentation. We've got semi-good news then, as EA's Frank Gibeau has told Eurogamer that console ports of both Star Wars: The Old Republic and the recently released Warhammer: Age of Reckoning are "under consideration." According to Gibeau, some research will be required before the company can come to a decision on the matter.
We've set our office clocks forward in an attempt to speed up the flow of time. Thus far, we have been unsuccessful. Looks like we'll just have to wait.

As long as there's not an addition fee to play, I'd be very very interested
ziggen @ Oct 22nd 2008 3:31PM
Its by LucasArts.. you know how greedy those bastards are.

WHy is this 360 news? I can tell you what console it's coming out on, and it's not this one. ( I am working on the port as we speak).
The one we are supporting has standard kernel support for USB/BT keyboards and mice.
You might think it's is just a Traveller's Tale, but I can assure you it's not....

I'd pay an extra fee to play this game on the 360. Who cares, this game will be awesome.
Tep @ Oct 22nd 2008 3:43PM
Fuck this shit. They do this instead of finishing up one of the best trilogies in gaming history? They make a reference to KotoR 3 then jokingly say that game is and 4/5 and beyond. Fucking money grabbers.

any idiot can point with a mouse..
Don't care for an MMO.. I want either KotOR 3 or Mass Effect 2 from Bioware..
As for Lucas Arts, I think they are a terrible & lazy developer.. Fracture is a sub par shooter with a terrain gimmick, which is just like playing a game in a level creator.. like from Far Cry back on xbox 1.. then there's that buggy mess called Star Wars: The Force (barely) Unleashed.. I completed that game on the hardest difficulty, maxed out character, took it on to apprentice & the character just felt weak.. anyone here who played Fable 1, knows that the lightning magic, & the repulse magic were far more 'Unleashed' than the maxed out apprentice, by level 3 for each power on Fable..
On top of those (linking to Lucas) is the Films are now getting HD touch ups, then there's the lazily animated CG film, that's woodier than Keanu Reeves after a stroke
(I apologize to any offence that may cause to anyone affected by the condition)

I hope it doesn't come to consoles, the parts of Age of Conan I don't like (the button mashing) are a result of combat/interface built for console gaming.
And of course it will be additional fees. Your Xbox Live subscription does NOT pay for the services and bandwidth that BioWare (or LucasArts) will be providing.

Pity i decided after buying the shitty, bug infested, cheap, annoying CRAP storm that is SW:FU that I'd never buy another LA game again or this might be of interest.
..Oh wait MMOG, yup that's about right. LA isn't what it used to be, gone are the days of KOTOR and Jedi Knight.
Even though Bioware made KOTOR, LA still has to give out the permission. I'd sooner chew my own foot off.
Urza @ Oct 23rd 2008 9:26AM
LucasArts hasn't made a game themselves in ages, it's no surprise that their first attempt back, Force Unleashed, had many problems.
Probably why they fired so many people after it was done.

I could care less if this comes to consoles or not. It's an MMO. I think the whole business model of an MMO, from a consumers perspective, sucks. I like a story-arc to my games. MMOs drag everything out so they can milk as much money from you as possible. I'm all in favor of a good developer making money their hard work but I think BioWare did themselves a disservice by turning this franchise into an MMO.
This game is probably the worst news to come out of BioWare...ever.
Mcfail @ Oct 23rd 2008 12:08PM
I'd rather have a KOTOR 3 for all platforms, I don't know what they are thinking... it seems most "announced" MMO's rarely make it to launch day because they will always be compared to the polished and established zombie maker that is World of Warcraft, I really don't think these guys new to the MMO market know what they are getting into infrastructure wise when it comes to running and maintaining an MMO.... like an 18 year old thinking they are ready for marriage....
Procris @ Oct 23rd 2008 7:04PM
They obviously went the MMO route purely for money. Lets face it, what made Kotor great was because its a single player game and it was the first to have a conversation system with the npc's, which more than likely won't even be in the PC MMO.
Still, this is Bioware. Bioware have a great track record for making good games. Kotor, Mass Effect, even that Sonic game they made on the Nintendo DS was apparently good. It looks like it really could be an MMO to rival WoW, heck they are even going for the same art/graphic direction e.g stylised art, not realistic.
Anyhow, i can say for certain we won't be seeing this on Xbox 360. An MMO for consoles would have to have a combat system that would actually "feel right" with the controller and not just simply "work" but ends up feeling like a chore. You could make a game like WoW work on a console but due to the amount of spells the combat system has it just wouldn't work well on a console. If old republic is anything similar, i don't see it happening.
mak090 @ Jan 11th 2009 6:46PM
if they do decide to make star wars the old republic pc only i think i will personally travel to Lucas arts HQ and happy slap the CEO until they get rid of this ridiculas mmo, pc nonsense, i think alot of people have made themselves clear that they want KOTOR3 not some MMO set in the time of KOTOR
