Xbox 360 tops PS3 in Japan for sixth straight week

Looks like Xbox 360 has landed itself above the PlayStation 3 in Japan for the sixth straight week, according to Media Create. Still on the heels of Japanese-style role-playing titles like Tales of Vesperia and Infinite Undiscovery the Xbox 360 has come out on top -- fourth overall in sales behind the PSP, DS and Wii -- against the homegrown Sony system for the week ending October 19. Coming soon for the console is The Last Remnant from Square Enix a title that mixes both Western and Eastern gaming conventions into one tight little package and the currently exclusive Star Ocean: The Last Hope, which will land early next year worldwide. Can Microsoft sustain a steady stream of console sales in Japan? Maybe, but if they really want to make a splash they should look into getting the rights to a game with the words "Monster" and "Hunter" in the title.

According to this list people in Japan like cheaper ways to play with the hottest newest titles available. And portables > consoles in Japan, so it's no surprise to see the PS3 at the bottom.

I do wish Valkyria Chronicles were on the 360 as well. A future port perhaps?

not a HUGE accomplishment but definitely a step in the right direction. i'm glad to see microsoft is putting up a fight like they said they would. it'd be awesome to see this continue however, i'm skeptical ;p

So you mean to tell me that you saw the drop of over 1000 in console sales coming down the road for the PS3? A 360 price drop should cause the 360 sales to go up a bit. But what's to explain the 17.6% *decline* in the PS3?

I think Sony is about to introduce a new 80GB model in Japan at a lower price, or reduce the price of the current 80GB model.

I think Monster Hunter could have turned things around significantly... but now that the next proper one is hitting the Wii, I'd be surprised if it happens.

i almost feel sorry for sony at this point because the they are not making money anywhere including the consume electronics. it just hard to believe the 360 is outselling the PS3 in Japan. I never saw this coming. once microsoft gets a taste of blood they go in for the kill.

I am going to come out and ask... How do you know that Sony is not making any money? You notice PSP sales? They also have PS2 doing quite well (for its age)... They also make TVs and other items... So I would say they are doing just fine.
The problem with M$ going in for the kill is that they start pulling out their large check book, and ruining industries!
Also, all of the items on your list suck. I prefer:

Linux
Firefox
Open Office (free version of Word/Excel/etc.)
iTunes
iPod
