Dragon themed 360 controller a Walmart exclusive

Haven't you always wanted a black and white Xbox 360 controller featuring a swoosh theme, a Chinese dragon, a feminine eye and a ... candlestick phone? Well, you're in luck, because Microsoft and Walmart have teamed up to offer an exclusive dragon Xbox 360 controller bundle.
The bundle (which we're told has already rolled out to Walmart and Sam's Club stores) includes both a dragon themed 360 wireless controller and black wired headset for only $49. Not too shabby of a deal, especially if you were already in the market for both a controller and headset. You can view pictures of this "unique" controller in the gallery below and decide whether its white d-pad is aesthetically pleasing to your eye. But a candlestick phone? Really?

Wow. This looks awesome. Sucks that I have to pay an extra $10 for a headset that I don't need (and is of the new, inferior design).
PeacefulOutrage @ Oct 28th 2008 12:44PM
An extra $10? I thought that wireless controllers were $50? I don't shop at Wal-Mart, so if their controllers are normally $40 for wireless, call me surprised.
I like the white d-pad and black shoulder buttons, but the controller design is not to my liking.
Dustin Burg @ Oct 28th 2008 12:47PM
To be fair, some retailers (like Amazon) are selling wireless controllers for around $40, while others (like Best Buy) are sticking to the $50 pricing.
HazyCloud @ Oct 28th 2008 12:42PM
You're not paying extra. It's the same price as all other wireless controllers, but this one comes with a headset.
I personally like the look of the white d pad. Not to keen on the art, though. I'll be picking a couple of these up for some modding action.
HazyCloud @ Oct 28th 2008 12:46PM
Just noticed there is an eye phone on there. Weeeiiirrrrd.
craig64 @ Oct 28th 2008 12:47PM
That looks pretty awesome... but I'm still leaning towards getting that red one...
OptimumEDGE @ Oct 28th 2008 12:48PM
looks pretty badass, would be an interesting fit with an elite.
seriously though, when you guys gonna announce the fable 2 winners?
xFenixKnightx @ Oct 28th 2008 12:48PM
I am in the market. But I want a red and black one, for Gears :)
HazyCloud @ Oct 28th 2008 2:16PM
Get one. They're awesome. My only prob is trying to find the red battery packs.
richbum @ Oct 28th 2008 6:17PM
the red controllers only come WITH the battery pack.. so it seems like you didn't search very far considering its in the same box as the controller.
ObiBen @ Oct 28th 2008 12:51PM
I would pick up the red and black one before this. That eye kinda creeps me out.
I DeX I @ Oct 28th 2008 12:54PM
Why do the custom Xbox360 controllers (Halo ones also), look like complete garbage? Do they commission 5th grade art-class students for this crap?
Tiptup300 @ Oct 28th 2008 1:05PM
Yeah, the ones you've made are much better. :P
DudeRed @ Oct 28th 2008 1:10PM
I didn't care much for the Halo 3 controllers but I am liking the directions they are going here with this one.
ANTHOLOGY @ Oct 28th 2008 12:59PM
The art looks like junk, but the white d-pad looks cool.
dunnypop @ Oct 28th 2008 1:05PM
never really thought of getting another controller (I have 2 wireless and a bunch of rock band / GH controllers)... however this looks pretty sweet. I might pick this up. Who knows when someone will drop by.
ChewyDogg @ Oct 28th 2008 1:08PM
dubbya tee eff
D dogg @ Oct 28th 2008 1:09PM
Screw the ART and screw the headset... how about selling a god damn controller with a digital (not sure if anyone even remembers what the 'D' in d-pad stands for anymore) paddle that actually is usable on games like STREET FIGHTER!
All these new colors, schemes and packages and I've YET to see one improvement since release in this controllers otherwise flawless design... a horrible D-Pad!!
Tony @ Oct 28th 2008 1:39PM
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. What ever happened to that fixed one they were going to ship with that soccer game?
Supposedly the Hori third party controller is better for dpad stuff, but it's incredibly hard to find it...
AoE @ Oct 28th 2008 2:39PM
@Tony,
Fry's has 'em in stock:

That Hori stick looks nice but honestly, for me, a solid d-pad is what I play best on.
Street Fighter for the Super Nintendo was absolutely my favorite to play (sore thumb and all) because of the controller. I know what sounds stupid to a lot of arcade enthusiasts but hey, it's what worked best for me.
ANTHOLOGY @ Oct 28th 2008 4:37PM
Not only should they make a new controller with a better Dpad, but they should also make an alternate controller with the left analog and dpad swapped for each other. Even if the fixed the dpad, it would be in an awkward place for those fighting games.
AoE @ Oct 28th 2008 7:42PM
@ANTHOLOGY,
As a fighting game fan, let me tell you... the Hori stick is the way to go even if they ever fix the d-pad, it's made of pure awesome.
nonrandomhero @ Oct 28th 2008 4:14PM
D-Pad
Directional-Pad.... not Digital
Anticrawl @ Oct 28th 2008 2:09PM
I want my black WIRED 360 controller along with a black chatpad. The wireless controllers end up being a pain in the ass and the battery pack on the back gets in the way of my fingers.
Aero @ Oct 28th 2008 2:17PM
Awesome! I was just thinking the other day that my controller could do with a candlestick phone on it.
h0mi @ Oct 28th 2008 2:29PM
Saw this on Sunday and meant to email pics but never got around to it. I like the black headset.
Brucie B @ Oct 28th 2008 3:35PM
Looks Sweet, Im Picking 1 up For Sure!
(Besides needing a New Controller)
rookie.of.the.year @ Oct 28th 2008 4:15PM
The bright green pad that launched the UK a couple weeks ago boasts "new d-pad technology", I personally haven't noticed a difference, but then I haven't played anything like Street Fighter with it yet.
As for this design, I hate it, and I don't really see the point. I would like to see black wireless headsets and chatpads at some point though.
Tegolin @ Oct 28th 2008 4:36PM
Too bad I don't need anymore than 2.
bugatti23007 @ Oct 28th 2008 4:39PM
The dragon controller is crap the controller should be all red and there should be two dragons on each side in black and that girly eye really ruins it.
Whitedragon101 @ Oct 28th 2008 5:48PM
Its actually quite fraking ugly, and is currently going for $59 at my wal-mart
Prox @ Oct 29th 2008 12:03PM
Yours, too? I stopped by to buy one yesterday and they tried to charge me $59. I told them it was $49 online on THEIR site (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10568386) and they told me I could buy it online then. Ridiculous! I ended up not buying it, who knows whether or not I'll get it now. I wish Microsoft wasn't letting this be exclusive to a crap retailer...
