45 songs headed to Beatles game
A new detail regarding the Harmonix Beatles game came to light today. According to a report in Variety (lots of news from them lately), Harmonix "will be able to select 45 songs from the Beatles catalog recorded during their 1962-69 tenure within EMI" for the game (does that mean Let It Be is off the table?). The article also reports that the chosen songs will be overseen by Giles Martin and his father George, who was previously the Beatles' producer. It remains unknown whether or not the original recordings will be remastered or reworked for the game, with Giles Martin noting, "We are trying to present the songs as they were played, adhering to the (original) mix."
Of course, the only real question is which 45 songs will be appearing in the game. Feel free to post your favorites in the comments.

what a stupid idea from the consumer's point of view, i want beatles songs but id never buy a game full of them only...
i see how paul mccartny wants all the licensing profits to himself, but his selfishness will lead to poor sales just like the metallica and aerosmith games
Ozzpot @ Oct 31st 2008 4:14PM
Poor sales of the Metallica and Aerosmith games? The Metallica one hasn't even been made yet!.. and everyone I know is buying it when it is.
I don't like the Beatles, so I won't be buying this game, but I'm sure lots of people will. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Why would it's very existence annoy you so much?
DeadPlasmaCell @ Oct 31st 2008 4:36PM
WTF? Poor sales?? GH: Metallica isn't even out yet and that's going to be a guaranteed hit. The Guitar Hero: Aerosmith game made more than $25 million and sold more than half a million copies. I wouldn't say those are poor sales.. That being said, I do like The Beatles, but I think this is going to be a snoozer, game-play wise. It's still going to be a big success though regardless.
JerkfacedFed @ Nov 1st 2008 2:49PM
my whole point is that i do not agree with this over commercialization and exploitation, stop defending the big company who is fucking you out of $60 just for beatles songs.
SaNcTuS @ Oct 31st 2008 4:12PM
Don't Let Me Down, Strawberry Fields Forever, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, I am the walrus, lucy in the sky with diamonds, Across the universe, Yesterday, Happiness is a warm gun, dig a pony, i got a feeling, I want you(this song would be awesome!), get back, hello goodbye are just a few off the top of my head that would be awesome for the game. I hope they have Abbey Road/Let It Be song's on the game since the songs are just from '62-'69

Finally. Someone I can see eye to eye with on this one.
The Beatles were only as good as thier marketing made the masses believe.
I am not drinking that kool-aid.
Mikemyerz666 @ Oct 31st 2008 5:37PM
the beatles helped start everything that we have today in terms of music. Every band out there has learned something from the beatles, elvis too. You're just a small minded fuck that doesn't know what music is all about, go listen to some more of that mariah carey i'm sure you're down with who doesn't right her own songs.
Richard Mitchell @ Oct 31st 2008 6:20PM
You're right. All that Beatles marketing that swamped the airwaves when I was in my teens during the 1990s is what made me like them.
Triforceowner @ Oct 31st 2008 7:41PM
I agree with Richard. I am seventeen and love the Beatles. Classic rock is so contrary to the current marketing teens experience, yet it thrives so well in our demographic.
Zoot Suit Jedi @ Oct 31st 2008 11:22PM
Sad, fellas. Really.
If you pathetic bastards knew thing one about music you would realize that Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones and Hendrix were all making better music at the time that still influences rock and roll to this day. Go ahead. Look at the discographies. But because the Beatles were "cute" they received more credit.
cranium @ Nov 1st 2008 1:14AM
while i'm sure you haters think that liking something because everyone else does is lame, I just hope you know that not liking something because everyone else does is worse.
'stones' 'pink floyd' 'hendrix'.. could you have a more generic argument? throw the grateful dead in there too while you're at it. tooools

In My Life would be great when they get the keyboard accessory out on the market.
And Revolution 9 would be great when they get the acid accessory out on the market.
Other than that, I think the earlier half of the catalogue will be more fun to play, although the drums will be a little boring. Ringo didn't really learn to play until about '66...
Mikemyerz666 @ Oct 31st 2008 5:46PM
lmao, the acid accessory, good one
jcat1118 @ Oct 31st 2008 4:33PM
While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Why Don't We Do It in the Road?, Happiness Is A Warm Gun & Eleanor Rigby
SadisticHam @ Oct 31st 2008 4:42PM
I always view The Beatles, Elvis and other massive hits from way back when that i consider shite as only getting the fame they did because, at the time, there was a lack of music compared to today.
I'm not saying they'd not make it big but in this day and age if they started out new, they'd not get anywhere near the level of success, still this has nothing to do with the game, i just wanted an excuse to call them shite.
And god damn do their accents piss me off and this is coming from a British guy.
MC Double Def DP @ Oct 31st 2008 5:15PM
I'm not a big Beatles fan myself. But what bands or artists currently today do you think will still be held in such high regards in 40 years like the Beatles?
bill m @ Oct 31st 2008 5:36PM
Music evolves. We have the music today because of what the beatles were able do, and the beatles were able to do what they did because of blues music. The Beatles helped shape how music was recorded, and how it was composed.
And as someone else stated, name me one band out today that you think will have as much staying power as the Beatles have been able to have. Whether or not you like their music because it doesn't fit your taste you have to at least respect what they were able to do. You obviously are not a music fan, just a fan of the music you only like.
Mikemyerz666 @ Oct 31st 2008 5:40PM
for someone who says shite, you sound pretty lame yourself. and @ bill m, hands up to you my friend, i totally agree.
OwningXylophone @ Oct 31st 2008 5:48PM
That is officially the most retarded thing I've ever heard!
Of course there was just as much music back then, and just like 95% of todays music, in 40 years time nobody will remember any of it!
Matt @ Oct 31st 2008 4:47PM
Most overrated band EVER.

Jace @ Oct 31st 2008 5:25PM
It's one thing not to enjoy the music of The Beatles, but failing to recognize that they innovated every facet of what we now think of as modern rock and roll music (i.e. not just electric blues) is just ignorant. They toured Germany before anyone outside of England really knew who they were, sleeping in their van just like any young band starting out. They elevated the act of studio recording to an art, working heretofore unheard magic on their middle and late era albums. With "Helter Skelter," they recorded what would be possibly the most raucous, noisy, out-of-control song on wax until Black Flag and Minor Threat came along. They retained the balls of rock and roll while moving it away from merely aping the blues, and they moved the industry to the album-based standard that has been the norm since rather than artists just releasing single after single. Not liking their music is fine, but if anything, they are underrated for their contributions to every element of what we now think of as rock music. There's so much there beyond "I Wanna Hold Your Hand."
The song I most want to see in the game is "And Your Bird Can Sing."
Alic @ Nov 1st 2008 4:42PM
Amen.
Henry @ Oct 31st 2008 5:55PM
I'm not going to say Beatles suck, though I am not a fan. I do not understand the reasoning behind making a Beatles only game (or any other exclusive type title). I want a variety of stuff and having songs from just one artist would get old quick. I am willing to bet people figure this out soon enough and these titles which feature exclusive sings wont last long.
TheSniperZERO @ Nov 1st 2008 11:08AM
Abbey Road and Let It Be were both recorded in '69 you retards.
bugatti23007 @ Oct 31st 2008 7:38PM
I hope this means this is the last of all the old famous bands to be put on Guitar Hero or Rock Band. Somebody needs to start putting out games for young people that listen to newer bands of metal and post hardcore like Avenged Sevenfold,Bullet for My Valentine, Disturbed,Rob Zombie,Saliva,Slipknot,Still Remains, & Underoath. These bands are the bands I've grown up listening to.These bands have a different style of music compared to the old bands.
Triforceowner @ Oct 31st 2008 7:43PM
Why are people requesting Eleanor Rigby? Wasn't it known for its lack of rock instruments? All it was was strings and vocals! That doesn't sound fun at all for a rock game.
Alic @ Nov 1st 2008 4:40PM
but... good song?
muffinmanlan @ Nov 1st 2008 1:02PM
I am buying this game!

To each their own, people. This will all be over soon anyway.
Gump619 @ Nov 3rd 2008 1:02PM
Well, as a stand-alone game I would hope that ALL 45 songs were available, not which.
