Missing gamer Brandon Crisp believed to be found dead
Sad news to report today, as CTV station CP24 reports that Brandon Crisp, a Barrie, Canada teenage gamer who went missing last month, has presumably been found dead by local police. Police discovered what is believed to be Crisp's body on Fifth Line. Crisp had gone missing on October 13 after a fight with his parents over his excessive gaming habits. Following his disappearance, local businesses and Microsoft had offered rewards to those with any information regarding Crisp's whereabouts. CTV reports further that Sgt. Dave Goodbrand of the Barrie police said the department believed the body to be that of Crisp, but that it is waiting for pathology before making an official confirmation.
Details regarding the boy's death are unconfirmed at this time.

not much to say but that it really sucks.
Latin Trident @ Nov 5th 2008 4:48PM
I hope this doesn't happen anymore. I hope parents get involved in the lives of their kids and set up boundaries including how long they play and what they play. Parents really need to step up and be responsible.
My grief goes out to the parents...
Mark @ Nov 5th 2008 2:52PM
Hey Microsoft, looks like they just found the kids body. Time to get your disgusting marketing machine into gear, so you can use the news to promote Xbox360 again.
Vile....
Xav de Matos @ Nov 5th 2008 3:02PM
Your ignorance knows no bounds.
Mik @ Nov 5th 2008 3:06PM
@Xav de Matos
they sunk to vile levels the other week - http://xbox.joystiq.com/2008/10/28/microsoft-matches-crisp-reward-investigators-turn-to-xbox-live/
, in order to promote the Xbox360 (otherwise why publicise it, they could have remained anonymous).
They will use this as more publicity again. Xbox owner should be ashamed for what Microsoft are doing, it's sick REALLY sick.
ericdrum @ Nov 5th 2008 3:12PM
@mik
Ahhh. A Sony fanboy come over to visit eh?
Serio @ Nov 5th 2008 3:19PM
At least it's not as bad as when Sony supported violence in Japan with the game "Yakuza".
Mikey @ Nov 5th 2008 3:20PM
Do you really think Microsoft wanted this negative publicity for the 360? That's idiotic. I don't know why you think Microsoft was trying to sell 360s because of this story.
R_Fusion @ Nov 5th 2008 3:30PM
Like it is said: If you aren't going to say something nice, don't say anything at all. Something like that :)
Xav de Matos @ Nov 5th 2008 3:56PM
I think Mik and Mike are confused.
The only reason Microsoft got involved was because they WERE involved in the story.
They offered up more of a reward to help find a kid and that's sick?
Do us a favor, unplug your Internet and walk away.
Mikey @ Nov 5th 2008 4:25PM
Xav, I think everyone that has read the story understands why Microsoft got involved. However, you'll find people who will take the whole story out of context like Mik and Mark has done.
Cal @ Nov 5th 2008 5:10PM
Just look at Mik's previous comments, blatant troll...
Mik @ Nov 5th 2008 5:13PM
@Mikey so WHY did Microsoft have to get involved AND publicise that they donated some money.
Why, publicity at others expense of course. They could have clearly stayed anonymous, but marketing men figured it would be great publicity. F ucking sick...
stinger503 @ Nov 5th 2008 6:16PM
What's the use if the award if it isn't public? Yeah Microsoft is saying "buy the 360! Maybe you're kid will run away too!" You disgust me with your bile and attempting to smear Microsoft for your own ego with this tragedy.
Perno @ Nov 5th 2008 8:15PM
I read these comments earlier on my phone and couldn't comment, but now I can... Mark and Mik, there's no excuse for people like you, what a waste of flesh/oxygen you are. Just go play LittleBigPlanet and wish it was something close to all the great games out on the 360, and stay away from here.
Halo2Master @ Nov 5th 2008 2:54PM
Very sad. I feel for Brandon's family and friends, and hope very much that those responsible are brought to justice.
This obviously extends beyond the usual "video games ruined my kid" story. Clearly something more sinister than a COD4 addiction was at work here. Tragic.
omni guy @ Nov 5th 2008 2:55PM
It's a shame what happened. You may find salvation in your "good book", and he found salvation with "harmless fun" on the internet. Hug your children, and perhaps get involved with their gaming habits - do not discourage them,.
There is plenty of money to make and a future to be had by working in the gaming industry and the passion should be nurtured, not punished. If you have problems with the amount of time your child spends playing "games", perhaps you should become a tighter part of his life, and less of an authority figure.
GBNF, Crisp will be remembered.
Mike @ Nov 8th 2008 6:50AM
Anything in excess can be bad. We weren't there...we can't say. He could have read about programming or math...just playing games isn't going to make you a game programmer.
"If you have problems with the amount of time your child spends playing "games", perhaps you should become a tighter part of his life, and less of an authority figure."
Parents are authority figures...not friends. The parent can play some games with the children but that does not take away from a limit the child needs to have on the amount they play.
Dave @ Nov 5th 2008 2:57PM
Imagine how the father feels after knowing he helped pack the kids bags...
Viridium @ Nov 5th 2008 3:24PM
As a father myself, I couldn't possibly imagine. There's just no way. Regardless of what other things might have been a factor in the boy's disappearance, my thoughts go out to the parents.
chase @ Nov 18th 2008 9:08AM
My G*d you are right. He may be on a suicide watch. I mean this in a sincere way.

A new an hero?
Ryan Hartman @ Nov 5th 2008 3:17PM
U don no bout his bad day
Beagles @ Nov 5th 2008 3:03PM
This is very sad. Its not just the parents fault though, the kid wasn't thinking either. Now what do you do? Hope that the body is some other teen?
Very sad.
MrMuggs @ Nov 5th 2008 3:10PM
How can you put partial blame on the kid? He was 15yrs old. Kids make irrational, stupid mistakes. Adults make them too but a parent is supposed to be there to help stop something dire from happening. Instead, the father was acting just as childish as his child.
Beagles @ Nov 5th 2008 3:16PM
The kid is 15 years old. Only 1 year away from being able to drive on our roads. Only 3 years away from being able to vote. He has his own brain. I'm not saying its completely his fault, but it isn't only the parents' fault.
ericdrum @ Nov 5th 2008 3:20PM
Unfortunately, many stupid things that teenagers do can end in death. The older you get, the more you'll understand that many adults out there are still teenagers in adults bodies trying to make it in the world. Parents still do stupid things and there's no manual to tell you how to approach every situation. So far this story just sounds tragic all the way around. I'd bet his dad wishes he could take the whole thing back. Saying that he should kill himself is a messed up thing to say. Frankly, you don't sound like a much better person.
Latin Trident @ Nov 5th 2008 4:50PM
Hopefully there is no dead body! I hope it was a decomposing beehive they find and not "another teen".
MrMuggs @ Nov 5th 2008 3:07PM
His father should kill himself. Seriously. As a parent, how can you help to pack your kid's bags to run away? Now his kid is dead and it was all over him playing a videogame too much? Was it really worth it? I wonder how often his dad is asking himself that? Disgusting.
Halo2Master @ Nov 5th 2008 3:29PM
Saying "his father should kill himself" is hateful and totally uncalled for. Sure, he made a mistake in this case that had grave consequences, and surely nobody regrets that more than him. But let's be honest here: it was a mistake made out of love for his son.
I feel for everyone involved here; this is truly a tragic story. We need to be careful before lumping these parents into the Jack Thompson category and remember that they lost a child here. Nobody should ever have to go through that.
ryan @ Nov 5th 2008 3:46PM
im sorry but no one knew how this would of ended up.. its not the fathers fault.. he obviously tried some reverse pshycology to try to talk him out of it and instead it backfired... im sorry what happend to brandon, but sometimes s@%$ happens
Alec @ Nov 5th 2008 4:04PM
Hey The Father Dident Think He Would Do It And Its More Of The Kids Fault Then The Parents. Im 14 And Im Not Dumb Enough To Run Away From Home.
Cal @ Nov 5th 2008 6:29PM
However, You Are 'Dumb' Enough To Put A Capital Letter At The Beginning Of Every Word.
the tif @ Nov 6th 2008 10:51AM
@Alec : your comment hurt my brain.
Conor @ Nov 5th 2008 3:13PM
Very sad indeed,I feel for his parents, they must be in a very bad way now.
Yes they may have been the ones making their son run away but they were only looking out for him like all good parents do.I hope people realize that.
It's a shame really,he was handsome chap too.
If that isn't the kids body, then the search continues but it's not looking to good for him right now to be honest.
Sammy D Kat @ Nov 5th 2008 3:16PM
So sad. I feel so bad for his parents. I hope they know it's not their fault.
OptimumEDGE @ Nov 5th 2008 3:16PM
Man that's just f'in sad. Poor parents, the last they saw of the son they got off on bad terms.
Life is just f'in unfair.
Zoot Suit Jedi @ Nov 5th 2008 3:19PM
As a father it pains me to punish my son, every time. But to be partially responsible for a child's death, is something that his father will never recover from. Anyone making comments about the boy or his father at this point should be ashamed.
Dan @ Nov 5th 2008 3:32PM
He helped pack his kids bags and wished him good riddens...
I'm a father of two and no matter what the cause, you are responsible for your kids.
The parents poor judgment helped to expedite their sons death in this case.
They knew he had a problem and choose the wrong way to deal with it. They made a mistake, but you are still held responsible for mistakes.
Zoot Suit Jedi @ Nov 5th 2008 3:51PM
That may be true, but it was HIS mistake, and he will hold himself responsible for it for the rest of his life. For US to judge the decision is inappropriate.
Mike @ Nov 5th 2008 4:11PM
Zoot Suit Jedi: The father was the one to blame everyone else... why can't we put the ownership back into his lap?
Zoot Suit Jedi @ Nov 5th 2008 4:26PM
Most likely he was projecting his own self loathing in order to cope with the situation. If things truly transpired the way that they were reported, this guy is already blaming himself. We should pity him.
Ryan Hartman @ Nov 5th 2008 3:20PM
This reeks of "the parents did it."
It's Jonbenet Ramsey pt. II ... only it's clumbsily being blamed on video games instead of dangerous minorities this time.
readmore @ Nov 5th 2008 3:36PM
I tend to agree... it seems more then a little suspicious. Especially when they were trying to say that LIVE users lured him away or encouraged him in some way.
nextlevelexotics @ Nov 6th 2008 8:25AM
I have been thinking the same thing since this story broke. Now with the info they think they have found his body it only makes my belief that much stronger. Over 70% of missing persons that end up dead were killed bye family members.
vanhelsingh @ Nov 5th 2008 3:23PM
fuck all you douches makin this into a fanboy war.
I can't imagine what that family is going through.
psychohog @ Nov 5th 2008 6:02PM
Agreed. You guys need to see what the real topic is here and not how Sony did this or but Microsoft did...blah blah.
Caleb @ Nov 5th 2008 3:38PM
After first reading this story then following it as new details were being released my heart hurt more and more for the family as I started to fear for the worst. Being a parent and most that are will agree that no matter what your children mean more to you than anything else. This story leaves me with a sick feeling in my gut because I can't imagine the pain, confusion and the stark possibility of guilt they are now being faced with. My thoughts and prayers go out to this family, I hope that they can rest easy knowing that they will see their child again...even though there is closure...their lives will never be the same...I wish this could have turned out differently but the only silver lining is he's in a better place.
Joe @ Nov 5th 2008 3:34PM
Honestly? Darwin's Theory at work.
I feel no remorse for this kid. His mother laid down the law for him ("your grades suck, you're not playing 360 'till they improve"). His reaction is to flip out, pack his bags, and leave OVER A GODDAMN 360. For those of us who were raised by decent parents who were strict but not overbearing, the correct reaction would be to fix your damn grades and listen to your parents, not run BAWWWWING off into the woods!
One less retarded, hate-spewing kid on Xbox Live playing M-rated games. Good riddance.
