Activision 2009 lineup is frigging 'uge
Our older, wiser siblings at Joystiq were lucky enough to sit in on a recent Activision Blizzard conference call, learning lots of details regarding the company's 2009 lineup. Publishing guru Mike Griffith noted that there would be 70 retail SKUs hitting shelves from Activision next year, representing a jump of 40% over 2008. As industry followers might expect, a considerable number of those SKUs will be covered by Call of Duty and Guitar Hero iterations. Joystiq notes that it's unclear if there will actually be multiple Call of Duty titles released, or if Griffith was referring to multiple SKUs of the same title -- i.e. Call of Duty 6 SKUs for PS3, 360, Wii, etc. Make no mistake though, there will be multiple Guitar Hero titles released in 2009 (we bet we can guess one of them).
Beyond those stalwart series, Acti-Blizzard is planning games based on movies including Monsters vs Aliens, Ice Age, Transformers and Wolverine. Also in the works are Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2, a "newly reinvented" Tony Hawk, Wolfenstein and another James Bond title that won't be tied to a movie. Finally, there is a smattering of new IP, with plans to release Singularity, Prototype, a new racing title from Bizarre Creations, an unnamed Sierra title that Activision held onto after acquiring the company and some more unannounced titles (Brütal Legend, please?).

It's a real pity an amazing Dev like Blizzard has to be linked with this shite.
stinger503 @ Nov 7th 2008 4:00AM
Blizzards been just as bad. They haven't released anything since 2004 except WoW.
Dark Caboose @ Nov 6th 2008 3:36PM
I am also hoping for Brütal Legend to pull though and be released.

barnaby jones @ Nov 6th 2008 4:39PM
So they wont publish original games like brutal legend but they will pump out many crap movie tie-ins and guitar hero "sequels". oh how awesome, i can hardly wait ( to NOT buy these games :D)
Mik @ Nov 6th 2008 5:22PM
Didn't they also mention that they expect PS3 to bury the 360 to the tune of 2m console sales But then this site "forgets" news like that.
What about those 7 week Japan sales that PS3 obliterated in a single week? la la la fingers in ears, it's not happening...
What about those reviews that are a saying Resistance2 is the killer title of 2008, and Gears2 is just a rehash... la la la fingers in ears....
E.J. @ Nov 6th 2008 5:52PM
then why is Resistance 2 getting a Metacritic average below Gears 2?
I hope my comment disappears due to the sheer force of the banhammer applied on you.
Richard Mitchell @ Nov 6th 2008 6:06PM
Dude, what are you talking about? We cover the Xbox 360, why would we talk about Resistance 2 at all?
Also, despite your insistence, the PS3 did not "obliterate" the 7 week total of the 360. In fact, it didn't even surpass it. The week of September 8 and the week of September 15, the Xbox 360 sold ~28K and ~14K respectively. So, about 42K total. That's before you add in the following 5 weeks.
Last week, as you keep telling me, the PS3 sold 39,587, so no, it did not "obliterate" the 7 week total that the 360 had going.
All of this, of course, is beside the point, which is: who cares? Both systems are doing just fine and we have healthy competition as a result. Once Joystiq compiles their weekly Japanese hardware sales total (today or tomorrow), we will post the news.
Mik @ Nov 6th 2008 6:15PM
Richard Mitchell talks nonsense..
http://www.reuters.com/article/technologyNews/idUSTRE49218520081003
"Microsoft sold 53,547 units of the Xbox 360 in the four weeks to September 28, compared with 33,071 units of the PS3, data from Enterbrain showed on Friday."
20k in 4 weeks. The PS3 sold 30k more units in a single week.
Sorry but you would have to be an idiot to not see the hypocracy, that Xbox360 fanboy cream their pants at a 2k weekly advantage, and then totally ignore losing so badly in a single week...
Richard Mitchell @ Nov 6th 2008 6:26PM
I can see this isn't going anywhere but, for what it's worth, I stopped caring about who "won" the console wars when the Dreamcast died. All the consoles have good games. I wound up having a lot more fun when I realized that.
To each his own, though. Believe what you want if it will make you feel better. We're totally teh bias.
hsuchi1 @ Nov 6th 2008 6:42PM
Okay, I think it is time to grow up, Mik... this is xbox360fanboy after all, shouldn't you keep to ps3fanboy to hear about ps3 news?
Honestly, why even troll? What can come of it? "Oh gawd, I never knew the PS3 was so awesome, thanks for letting me know, I'll never read xbox360fanboy again."
And even if that did happen in make-believe-land, what benefit does it grant you?
Yes, I have both systems, and yes I read both forums, I have to admit there are only a handful of ps3 games I own or care for. But that's the reality, Sony got to a VERY slow start and as it were many exclusives that I bought the PS3 in anticipation for are no longer exclusive, but that's life, I had high hopes like everyone else, but business is business, if the user base is larger and the attach rate is larger, what would any legitimate business do?
The 360 is now $199, that's like basically 3 games, just man up get one. Then you could stop trolling a 360 blog without a 360 and enjoy both Resistance 2 and Gears of War 2.
I'm mean... "oh no GoW2 is an 360 exclusive, omfg it suXorZ so bad, Resistance2 roX0rz, btw, I don't have a 360 or touched GoW." Come on, who's going to take you seriously? (other than being a troll? or is that what you want?)
Cole's Notes: I bought the 360 at launch due to my satisfaction with the original (somewhat ill-fated) xbox. And picked up the 60GB PS3 when Sony threatened to pull out the emotion engine from later models. And before you question my loyalty to Sony (in general), my entire collection of HT/AV electronics has almost always consisted of Sony products. Plus, I stood in line for 5 hours in the middle of snowy sub-zero winter when the PS2 launched (yes, I was younger and naive back then).

@hsuchi1 merely pointing out that the Cheif News Editor here has to resort to making things up to win arguments. When I offered up a Reuters link to counter his lies, suddenly he didn't care about sales numbers.
I think you Americans need to wake up, you are being manipulated by the media, who are being paid off by corporations.
You were already the laughing stock of the world, and things like this just make it worse.
Richard Mitchell @ Nov 6th 2008 9:56PM
Okay, hold on. Let's keep this civil okay. I most certainly did not make anything up. I quoted you the Japanese hardware sales numbers from the weeks of September 8 and 16. I got them from Joystiq, which gets them from Media Create.

You said "What about those 7 week Japan sales that PS3 obliterated in a single week? la la la fingers in ears, it's not happening..." The PS3, according to the same information you sent me, sold 39,587 units last week. In order for your claim to be true, the Xbox 360 would have to have sold less than 39,587 in 7 weeks, which is not true. That is the only statement I was making.
Now, maybe the PS3 had higher TOTAL sales during that period. I don't know, I haven't done the math. My only point was that last week's sales did not eclipse the 7 week streak that the Xbox 360 (bizarrely) enjoyed, which is what your original statement was.
It seems to me that all we really have here is a misunderstanding.
Boff @ Nov 7th 2008 11:28AM
Sigh. Anway, give us Brutal Legend please and it's quality not quantity ActiBlizzard.
Mister Servo @ Nov 7th 2008 3:15PM
I would love to hope for Brutal Legend to still be published by ActiBlizzard, but I think that ship has long since sailed. :(
I wonder when we're finally going to being hearing more about Ultimate Alliance 2, I'm itching for another Marvel dungeon RPG.
