Assy, guess I'll have to wait with the rest of you plebes
Martin Greenberg @ Nov 8th 2008 12:55PM
once more I didn't get it...
Paulish @ Nov 8th 2008 1:03PM
Didn't get in either. Oh well. 11/19 is just around the corner anyway.
DBoyFlex @ Nov 8th 2008 1:06PM
All I want is the HDD installs. Avatars come second to that. Actually, they also come second to the new layout.
philmcphail @ Nov 8th 2008 9:24PM
Oh! I can personally tell you about the HDD installation option. After I downloaded the Beta I installed a game (Assassin's Creed) right away.
Pro: It's fast, I clocked it around 10 minutes for the full install. (LOL Assassin's Creed is only 6.7 gigs)
Cons: The changes when playing a game is NOT noticeable. I mean, I bet the game runs faster slightly, but you won't notice a thing. Another thing is that I thought the my 360 would be silent completely, it's not. The fan still runs, but at the dashboard level speed. So, its only a little quieter.
Overall: The process isn't really worth using, unless you worried that something could happen to the disc when its running (like knocking your 360 over and scratching the disc). But the Avatars (if your into it) and the new themes layouts could be promising.
ryan @ Nov 9th 2008 5:54AM
I've been told that the disc can mess up regardless if you move it or not. Also the disc drive does produce more heat when running.
Overall I like to install my games to prevent less wear and tear in the future. Plus there's games with menus that can take long loading up like Fable 2 and are much faster with the install.
cloud858rk @ Nov 9th 2008 7:18PM
The max is about 6.9 GB for a game install. Stuff Microsoft requires takes up the other 2 GB.
GANNONSMASH @ Nov 8th 2008 1:08PM
Arggh, I didn't even get a chance to apply. :(
Ellianth @ Nov 8th 2008 3:26PM
When I tried to apply (on time) i got this error message: You don't have something that is required.
They wouldn't even tell me what it was. Oh well :(. Were they accepting people from Canada?
Aero @ Nov 8th 2008 4:06PM
Same. I was away from home for the weekend they announced the sign ups so I couldn't get the console details I needed :(
Arsenic13 @ Nov 8th 2008 1:15PM
They should really do a part 3 now and just let all who signed in. They promised that there was a good chanve youll get in and thats BS.
Sora @ Nov 8th 2008 1:58PM
Dude, I think you and Cj hiveminded.
Ghen @ Nov 9th 2008 7:48AM
wow that was kinda cool :)
Cj @ Nov 8th 2008 1:14PM
There should really be a phase 3, where all those who signed up get in. Major said that there was a good chance we would get in, which was utter BS.
Deezul @ Nov 9th 2008 10:22AM
I don't think they realized the number of folks who DID get in. For that "good chance," could Major give us some percentages? You know, "1000 applied in country X, 10 got in." Um, that's a GOOD chance? Honestly, the only folks I've seen who got in early have been the game sites! Not many Joe the Plumbers...
I also suggested that everyone WHO did apply? Why not push the update to them a day or two early. That can't be too hard.
Jim Halpert DM @ Nov 8th 2008 1:17PM
I got in! Shame when you set your avatar to your gamer picture your friends can't see it.
Jim Halpert DM @ Nov 8th 2008 1:18PM
Btw... Call of Duty 4 takes up 6.7gb on the HDD.
Jim Halpert DM @ Nov 8th 2008 1:21PM
My Gamercard, to see any one else's just substitute the gamertag at the end of the URL

BlackDwarf @ Nov 8th 2008 1:47PM
Again, no-go for me. It's ok MS, its not as if I've been following xbox since the launch of the Xbox 1, I'm obviously not important enough a customer.
Andrew @ Nov 8th 2008 2:54PM
Oh boo hoo, it comes out in 2 weeks.
ingenious @ Nov 8th 2008 3:02PM
It is random. They're not giving top priority to anyone, so get off your high horse.
Ben! @ Nov 8th 2008 9:05PM
Aw, you poor thing :(. You signed up for the beta and didn't get in just like a ton of other people.
Seriously, quit whining. I've never seen anybody take something like this personally.
Deezul @ Nov 9th 2008 11:39AM
Here's the problem - Major Nelson said "there's a good chance you'll get in." Obviously, no there wasn't. To me, "good" chance means 40-50 percent chance. I suspect it was more like 5-10 percent got in. If Major had said, "Large numbers will apply, so do not be surprised if you DON'T get in." Then, when I didn't and others, hey, we knew we had a good chance to NOT get in.
Scott Summers @ Nov 9th 2008 3:22PM
"Many will enter! Few will win!"
mattclarkie @ Nov 8th 2008 1:31PM
But for those of us who got crappy error messages when trying to sign-up tough ta-ta's I guess.
ryan @ Nov 8th 2008 1:35PM
It's a pretty nice dashboard now. Each game takes 6 minutes to rip and almost immediately starts up from the dash.
It cuts off your background pic with the new look and I can't get my old themes to work with it. But it's all very squeaky clean and fast (faster than it was before w/out being online.)
Hopefully they can add animated themes for the dash in the future.
Jim Halpert DM @ Nov 8th 2008 1:42PM
Took me 10 mins to rip COD4. Oh, and try the new Gears of War 2 theme with it, then check out your friends list in the main dash. Each friend has a gears related theme around them. All of my old themes seem to work.
ryan @ Nov 8th 2008 1:48PM
Ok, I didn't download new themes yet, just the old ones didn't seem to work for me for some reason.
But I was under the impression that it rips games at a rate of 1.7 gigs per minute? Maybe it's because I'm using a 120gb HDD. Which HDD are you using?
Jim Halpert DM @ Nov 8th 2008 1:49PM
I have a 20 gig, it's pretty full too. Could be why it took longer.
ryan @ Nov 8th 2008 9:53PM
I just installed Mass Effect and it took about 8 minutes. I was probably wrong about the 6 mins before, but games do tend to take 8-10 mins to install.
Jdogg1020 @ Nov 8th 2008 1:56PM
I just got my invite last night.
CABALLOTE @ Nov 8th 2008 1:59PM
My 360 was in the shop so I couldn't sign up at the time. Sucks for me. Oh well, a couple more days and I'll have it anyway. Sure beats the PSN.
Shin @ Nov 8th 2008 2:26PM
Troll.
Zach S @ Nov 8th 2008 2:31PM
Oh well, I can wait until Nov. 19th I guess. I mean, I have a gold account, Netflix, a fast internet connection- not really sure what they're looking for?
yolarrydabomb @ Nov 8th 2008 3:06PM
I in but no update yet....
Mr.U2 @ Nov 8th 2008 3:29PM
I can wait 11 days, ha.
Cyantre @ Nov 8th 2008 3:39PM
I got in! I received an e-mail last night saying it would be ready for download 2PM today, and it was. So far it's sweet, everything is faster and more sleek. I was huge fan of the blades system, but the NXE has grown on me.
Dave @ Nov 8th 2008 4:52PM
I got in and have already messed around with NXE. It's as good as I expected it to be, although the avatar system is better than expected.
No complaints on my end.
TechNick @ Nov 8th 2008 4:56PM
Awesome! I got in! It's really nice.
But one thing that seems strange is how the Marketplaces are set up. You can't really tell your in the store since it seems to blend in with everything else. I also wish I could just see a list of games instead of having to look by genre.
But overall it's really cool!
d889 @ Nov 8th 2008 5:35PM
didnt get in again... oh well i still already have it installed :) just cant get online.
btw its pretty slick, i couldnt care less about avatars but i like the new aeroish feel.
MDJ2010 @ Nov 8th 2008 6:00PM
GOW2 just came out, so why does anyone care?
Not trying to be an ass, just curious. Having said that HDD installs would be nice to SHUT MY DAMN 360 UP!!!!!
Cyantre @ Nov 8th 2008 6:16PM
Not everyone cares about Gears of War 2, but the NXE is something that everyone who has a 360 will eventually experience.
JohnWayne506th @ Nov 8th 2008 7:03PM
Im so glad I got into it the 2nd time around. i was so bummed missing the first one. I LOVE IT!!!! Even the Avatars are pretty good. Now I am gonna try to install a game and see how that goes and start a Netflix account.
yolarrydabomb @ Nov 8th 2008 7:27PM
I found out that I screw up on console ID. So I fill it out and now I guess I gotta wait longer.
Luckly for you guys that got invite and update.
I like the invite tho, its so sweet and...plain =(
NukeAssault @ Nov 8th 2008 9:17PM
I wouldn't be surprised if i messed mine up. =\
yolarrydabomb @ Nov 8th 2008 9:35PM
Did you get invite yet or not.
If you get a invite, be sure to go to news group and double check your console ID before that hour hits.
NukeAssault @ Nov 8th 2008 9:42PM
Nope, and it wouldn't matter if i did. The 360 i used for it is broken. Unless i can somehow make it work on the current 360 im using... >_>
yolarrydabomb @ Nov 9th 2008 12:45AM
Well once you get a invite which I dont think it matter because of 11 days. you can change it before and after the wave of updates.
I guess I gotta wait monday to try it.
Kizzle @ Nov 8th 2008 7:53PM
Got mine :)
It's cliched guys, but it's still true - I know you're itching to get your hands on it, but after the first hour you won't care anymore. It really isn't that big of a deal. Best part is being able to copy games to the HD. Everything else is take it or leave it for me.
Mrblonde @ Nov 8th 2008 8:38PM
They should just release it a week early. By the sound of it, its done and they could put it out for download if they wanted to. They are playing with us. Leave us alone and give it to us!
