C'est la vie: 360 back on the bottom in Japan
Well kids, after nearly two months on top of in the middle of the charts, the Xbox 360 has been corralled into its previously assigned sales slot, also known as right smack-dab at the bottom. Through a miraculous confluence of events, most likely the release of several games aimed at Japanese audiences, the console had managed to outsell Sony's Playstation 3 on its home turf for weeks on end (once to the tune of over 10,000 units). We should note, of course, that the Wii, PSP and DS -- and even the PS2 at one point -- consistently topped the 360 during the same period. Alas, those heady days are behind us, and things are back to normal. A little more than normal, as even the hardy Playstation 2 managed to outsell the 360 during the week of October 27 - November 2. Also, the DSi, not unexpectedly, exploded onto the sales charts. Finally, the PS3, seemingly fueled by an Edmond Dantès-like sense of vengeance, boosted its sales by over 900%. Yow.
- DSi: 171,925 [New Entry!]
- PSP: 50,358
10,109 (16.72%)
- PS3: 39,587
35,656 (907.05%)
- Wii: 23,123
1,169 (4.81%)
- DS Lite: 16,369
6,596 (28.72%)
- PS2: 6,714
248 (3.56%)
- Xbox 360: 6,119
1,725 (21.99%)

Yeah, just caught that. My old French teacher, Madame Rose, would slap me.

Little Big Planet Bundles.

I had been convinced for a while that the Wii would eventually hit a wall there. I wonder if that's happening now... but who knows, I'm no expert and I don't keep up on it monthly lol.
I suppose at least the 360 is still selling to someone. That's good?
Mokano40 @ Nov 10th 2008 1:00PM
I don't want to anger some PS3 fan boys, but.....What does the people like about Little big planet !!!!??
I saw that game and I did not like it a little big, that thing look like it's for kids not for hardcore players.
So please can somebody can tell me why does everybody like it?

Actually, it wasn't LBP that made the big splash. It was really GTA IV's new release, and it sold around 3:1 on the PS3 compared to the Xbox 360. LBP was lower in the charts, so it can be attributed to Rockstar's game for a good part.

oh trust me it gets hard
and the level editor is a pain
its complex trust me .
donnie @ Nov 11th 2008 1:54AM
I was exactly like you when I borrowed my friend's copy of LBP. Was like uh..what is this crap? I thought the campaign sucked, even with multiplayer. But then I had some people over and we had 4 people playing through various user made levels and it was a total blast. Definitely not a game that I would play alone though.

Ok, thanks guys that is all i wanted to know, i was afraid to ask this on PS3 Fan boy, i supposed they'd kill me at lleast for questioning their game
Mazrael @ Nov 10th 2008 1:14PM
they're still buying the PS2...!? is that thing designed to break?
All the Japanese origin games I've played have all felt last gen, the HD quality-ness of them varies, but game play feels no better, my favourites so far are Ninja Gaiden 2 & Lost Odyssey.. it's almost like they shun HD & keep buying into that fad console..
I kinda agree with Makano40 - I can't see what the fuss is with LBP.. "Oh, it's the community..!", LBP just seems like the one nighter, weekender at most.. the thing MS announced before LBP (was announced) doesn't even interest me..
jonethan @ Nov 10th 2008 1:31PM
That's gotta be a typo on the PS3 sales. Look at the sales figures: 39k before, 35k now. That sounds more like 90%, not 900%.
Zack @ Nov 10th 2008 1:34PM
It's up 35,000, with sales currently at 39,000 for the week. ;)
jonethan @ Nov 10th 2008 1:42PM
ah, ok. Pretty odd coincidence, that.
Mokano40 @ Nov 10th 2008 2:52PM
.............I'll ask again
Please somebody tell me why everybody likes the dumb LBP?
To me that game seems like an average weekly XBLA download game for kids....nothing else.
Kev. Not flaming anymore @ Nov 10th 2008 3:01PM
play it for urself its a great game and stop acting like an ignorant fool
AltCtrlPwn @ Nov 11th 2008 12:38AM
"that thing look like it's for kids not for hardcore players."
Right, because hardcore players only like violent games with blood guts and MORE FPS. You haven't even played the game, and no one can "explain" it to you if you don't get it.
saito ps3 @ Nov 10th 2008 3:05PM
videos dont do the game justice, you gotta actually sit down and play the game. think of it as the game braid. it looks stupid, but when you play it its good. obviously microsoft likes LBP so they went out and made thier own game like lbp. i cant remember the name
Mokano40 @ Nov 10th 2008 3:45PM
It's ok if it's a good game, but most of the PS3 fan boys are acting as if it were the best game in the world,
I bougth Braid and I like it, but it is not like going crazy for it
I'm starting to think they are crazy about LBP because that is all they have, which is sad for them.
farmer pancho @ Nov 11th 2008 2:19AM
I think the reason the ps3 went up in sales was because of sega's valkaria chronicles release, you know how japan loves rpgs.
