Rare has a change of heart, will fix Nuts & Bolts' small text problem

After hearing the collective internet vent in anger regarding the tiny on-screen text in Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts not being embiggened, developer Rare has had a change of heart.
Rare just announced that they will be fixing the Nuts & Bolts tiny text issue with a title update post launch. The update should be "released within the next 30 days" and "will fix it [the small text] for those with Standard Definition TVs". We say nice move Rare ... nice PR move. Now that we've won this tiny text battle, who's up for focusing our text embiggening efforts on Capcom and Dead Rising? Show of hands, please.

Awesome, I'm happy about that. It strained my eyes and I have a HDTV.
I'm not sure why people dislike it, but to each their own. Well I guess I am sure, but I like the things about it that some dislike.
To me building a car to fly up somewhere is not all that different than finding some contraption (or ability) and flying up somewhere... which is how the game undoubtedly would have handled it otherwise. At least you have some say in how that works for once.
Tony @ Nov 10th 2008 11:44AM
And actually... I hope this does increase it for ALL users, not just SDTVs. It's hard to read on anything.

I'm near sighted so I couldn't even play the demo as that text was too small. Might I'll give the game a rent when the update hits. Although I think I'd rather buy the XBLA version.
birdshake @ Nov 10th 2008 12:14PM
Good to hear. I tried playing the demo and couldn't read ANYTHING and just said 'Wow, Screw it' and turned it off.
Same happened with Dead Rising. I don't see why companies cater to those with HDTV's when a larger base own SDTV's

I *still* haven't played Dead Rising and I bought it over a year ago ... I popped it in once and couldn't read the text on my SDTV :( Waiting until I can upgrade the TV to play the game ...

Tis a great day for nerd rights!
skfireboy @ Nov 10th 2008 12:48PM
Yay, we got something done. Regarding Dead Rising, who still plays that game?
Pudge @ Nov 10th 2008 12:52PM
Nice to know. If they would have fixed this from the beginning, maybe I wouldn't have canceled my pre-order and bought other things instead.
But then I remember that the Demo made we want to kill myself. A shame really.
Mazrael @ Nov 10th 2008 1:22PM
Wasn't aware it came out, let alone went gold.. how they or Capcom didn't notice the small text.. aren't the games supposed to be tested in different resolutions....?
KrAzy Che3To @ Nov 12th 2008 3:01PM
Yeah, I'm sure they test it in 720p and 1080i/p. Anything else is sort of digging back in ancient times.
Ryan Bond @ Nov 10th 2008 2:01PM
Good call on their part. I pre-ordered it and looked at the demo after. For a game so dependent on reading the text was way too small and I almost cancelled the order. I'm looking forward to it now!

Hopefully this won't affect the text size on HDTVs.
R_Fusion @ Nov 10th 2008 3:27PM
Nice move Rare indeed.
KiraXD @ Nov 10th 2008 4:02PM
who still uses an SDTV to play HD games on?
Ghostbuddy @ Nov 10th 2008 5:52PM
The second rare achknowledged the complaint, and then said they wouldn't fix it for money driven reasons, they were pretty much given no option but to fix it.
Mr.U2 @ Nov 10th 2008 6:47PM
Yay, a developer that actually listens to the gaming community! I

Good to know, I have a SDTV and didn't have a problem reading the text... it's just that damn auto-scroll.
Pancake Ninja @ Nov 16th 2008 1:08AM
Wouldn't it be simpler to have a setting that simply adjusts the text size to the players preference? Is that at all possible?
