WRUP: Viva variety edition

Dustin Burg (SuperDunners): I have two big gaming goals this weekend. One being my attempt to reach wave 50 in Gears of War 2's Horde mode on normal difficulty. My second goal is to finish Mirror's Edge and generate a solid opinion on the game. So far, I have mixed feelings. That's about it, Gears 2 and Mirror's Edge.
Xav de Matos (Snypz): I've spent a good amount of time with Faith in Mirror's Edge. Where do I stand? Well, I don't know. There are some great ideas in the game but I'm seeing missed opportunities everywhere. I'm also spending a good amount of time playing another big, and upcoming, title ... but we can't talk about that right now. Sorry!
Richard Mitchell (SenseiRAM): I finally wrapped up Silent Hill: Homecoming. I have to admit it was a very good entry in the series. Congrats, Double Helix. Now I'm freed up to really dig into Dead Space, which I'm enjoying, though I have to say that it's only managed to scare me maybe once. Definitely not the psychological brain twisting you get with Silent Hill (thus far anyway). I've been digging the Left 4 Dead demo as well. My only problem with it is that it's way too short. Thankfully that problem goes away when the full retaili version hits next week.

I keep playing that Left 4 Dead demo over and over, I cant wait for it to come out. I'll probably play some NHL09 and finish Dead Space.
Greg @ Nov 14th 2008 5:27PM
I'm gonna try to finish COD:WAW this weekend, on veterin (people say it's insanely hard). I also want to get maxed out on Resistance 2 online coop and play some more competative matches. I have Fallout 3 but am not opening it till they patch the trophies in.
Jonman @ Nov 14th 2008 5:28PM
What's up with Xav? He's permanently on some secret mission that he can't tell us about. Is the X3F's official ninja? Xav is a pretty ninjary name - it makes sense I suppose.
I'll be conituing to save the world in Fallout. I'll be starting my descent into evil in Fable, having been playing the angleic paragon up until now. I'll be playing lego-vehicles with Nuts'n'Bolts if it arrives in the mail today, and enjoying eating fish courtesy of a free code for Feeding Frenzy 2 from winning an X3F fanswag! And I've just had confirmation of a band practice to take place tomorrow. RAWK!!
joeybeast @ Nov 15th 2008 12:18AM
I'm guessing Xav will be playing L4D.
He talked about it last podcast.
NukeAssault @ Nov 14th 2008 5:34PM
Still chugging along in Far Cry 2. I hope i can find the time to go get cod:waw and gears2 tomorrow.

Mirrors Edge is great when there's no shooting involved..
It's AI is rubbish - happily shoots it's allies to get you, they're like kicking brick walls when they guard a flying kick by just putting up their arm, don't need run ups for their attacks (which don't even need to connect to hit), it acts no difference to how it acts towards you whether your armed or not.. yea I could shoot them, but that would be too easy, I want to play a free running game, not a shooter..
Dead Space is really good, good tension, sound.. only the turret mini game (better controls) & 'curb stomp' (so it aims to the closest limb) that need fixing
And as good as Gears 2 was, I preferred the 'intimacy' of Gears 1

dicknjane @ Nov 14th 2008 7:33PM
lol, i got it this evening. oh well, i'm takin my HDD over to my friends house, and we'll be rockin some Gears 2, Halo 3, and Rock Band 2.
ryan @ Nov 14th 2008 8:11PM
HDDs are NOT memory cards, so don't transport them to other 360s! I had Oblivion data corrupted that way. It's best to stick your HDD into your console only!
taker301 @ Nov 14th 2008 5:59PM
scratch that maybe a little resident evil 4 on the wii

I found that if you're with a good group it's pretty straightforward to get to level 50 in Horde mode on Gears of War 2, as long as you play on the Security map. If you all stay inside the laser area, you have a much greater chance of fending off the enemies.

Gears 2 and playing around with the NXE. I may pick up an old game that I missed last year in Assassin's Creed as well.
Aero @ Nov 14th 2008 6:55PM
No love for Banjo?
I'll be playing Nuts and Bolts and the original on XBLA this weekend.
ryan @ Nov 14th 2008 8:13PM
Tomb Raider Anniversary to prep for TRU. I liked the demo and might get it next week if the reviews are favorable.
Chase @ Nov 14th 2008 10:44PM
Beating Horde is a highlight of 2008. Fun times.
Will @ Nov 14th 2008 10:48PM
Probably some Mass Effect and some demos
Spooky @ Nov 15th 2008 11:10AM
Horde, horde, ...horde, ummm more horde, horde horde, hardcore horde, and horde. For the republic! *roar*
Spooky @ Nov 15th 2008 11:11AM
...and some co-op campaign? Its mostly GoW2 for me.
EC @ Nov 15th 2008 11:12AM
Although apparently most of the gaming press seems to be against it (which I still don't understand) I'll be playing a lot of Banjo this weekend! Of course Gears 2 will get some playtime as well to. Need to finish the co-op campaign on hardcore and do some more of horde.
Craig @ Nov 15th 2008 11:24PM
Well, since I finished GoW2 campaign and got through wave 50 with my friends in Horde, I'll be running the Mirror's Edge mostly this weekend. I'm completely in love with the free-running aspect....I have mixed feeling anytime there are guns involved. I'm still not sure if things feel too out of balance (number of enemies, shots it takes to die, etc.) or if its just realistic/"challenging". I'll have a better opinion farther in, I think, but so far I do really enjoy the game.
miguel @ Nov 16th 2008 5:21AM
Playing GOW2.. having fun with it, definitely some fun twists and surprises. Also playing mirror's edge.. it was really pissing me off though. I like a lot of aspects but it has a lot of those moments where you can't do anything but flip the bird at the tv set. It seems really short..
