Lips microphone won't work with other games

Talking to MTV Multiplayer, Lips creator and Inis developer Keiichi Yano mentioned that the Lips accelerometer microphone will not work with any other music games at launch, but is optimistic that it'll be compatible with other titles in the future.
"It's not something we can do, obviously [the games would require a patch]. I mean, I hope so for Rock Band, Guitar Hero. It won't work out of the box but it's relatively easy to kind of get it going."
So, the light up Lips microphone and its compatibility with other musical titles lies in both Harmonix and Activision's hands. They'd have to release patches for their games which we think they totally should. Everyone pretty much agrees that the wireless Lips microphones are teh sexy and teh awesomez.

I could care less about getting the accelerometer to work (but I'll take it if it's there)... I just want a wireless mic for Rock Band. Does this thing need a USB dongle connected, or will it not need one and just associate with a controller like the wireless headset?

As this is a MS product, i suspect that it won't require a dongle

Too bad...
Too bad my girlfriend wants this game so bad that she couldn't care less about this. Even if the microphones would expire after 3 months of use she would still rebuy a set. Over and over again.

I'm pretty excited about this game. I've been trying to get my wife into gaming for a while, and I discovered I was going about it all wrong. I was trying to get her into the games that I like, when she fits into a totally different demographic.
She really likes Guitar Hero, and I she likes to sing karaoke when we go out. Hopefully this will be her favorite Christmas present!

I totally agree, my girlfriend is very excited about this game and the avitars as well. She also likes to sing on rockband when we play so hoping this helps to get to play more games with the group. Outside of my wii that she has taken over completely. Fine by me....it was collecting dust.

I purchased Karaoke Revolution: American Idol Encore specifically for my wife. And it got her gaming, and I could even get here to then join me in Rock Band. She doesn't have the button skills, but she can read and carry a tune. I've also got "You're in the Movies" and "Scene It" as planned purchases because I know she'll play.

Here's a wireless logitech mic coming out next month. I'll be grabbing it if HMX doesn't have plans to introduce the LIPS mics.

$80?!? Lips with two mikes is cheaper... But if Harmonix and RB make a patch, the price on the Logitech one will have to drop.

Not necessarily. Logitech is quite proud of their name. I agree that 80 is way high, but I have a feeling it'll last longer than the LIPS mics.
