NXE given to everyone who signed up for preview

Major Nelson just sent word that EVERYONE who signed up for the New Xbox Experience preview a few weeks back will be receiving access to the NXE later tonight. That is, if you correctly filled in your console ID.
We're told that the NXE will roll out within' the next few hours to every guy and gal that signed up for the preview. True, you'll only be getting NXE goodness a day early, but it's a day earlier then the masses which instantly makes you uber l33t. Now run along and go enjoy the NXE.

Sweet i thought i was going insane when i seen my Xbox updated!
ChemicalPainter @ Nov 17th 2008 10:38PM
I like how its all new and whatever, but honestly, there's nothing that special about it, other than being able to install games to your hard disk...
OptimumEDGE @ Nov 17th 2008 11:05PM
Well that's any easy diagnosis.
You're crazy.
ddbub @ Nov 17th 2008 11:49PM
gotta agree. I really hoped they would add new features related to steaming audio and video so it could compete with things like the appletv, Western Digital TV HD, Popcorn, etc.
like stuff like thumbnails for mp4
mkv support
more logical menus for audio so it doesn't list by album after Genre (like i know all the obscure albums)
ac3 surroundsound
subtitle support for muxed subtitles.
and a bunch of other stuff.
Wish they had added that sort of stuff.
it does look very nice. but functionally, it's not mindblowing.
BananaBoat @ Nov 18th 2008 12:20AM
They added hundreds of thousands of free on-demand movies via Netflix. If that isn't a gigantic leap, then I don't know what is.
So far these are my basic impressions:
- Netflix works just as you'd expect it
- Avatars are slightly less intrusive than I feared
- The interface isn't sluggish in the least
- The blades that come up when you push the guide button are great (despite my fears that it would be a pointless feature, it's actually really handy)
Since we pay for Xbox Live, and thus it's not one of those "They gave you this for free, now live with it!" types of things, I expected some value to be added to the service. Netflix did that for me, but if you don't have a Netflix subscription, and you don't care about avatars, this is pretty much just a cosmetic update, and you can go back to business as usual.
BananaBoat @ Nov 18th 2008 12:42AM
Tens of thousands*
ddbub @ Nov 18th 2008 1:22AM
that's kinda my point Banana. I agree with you. I stopped using netflix a long time ago. And the Avatars are don't impress me. i have nothing against them. But there didn't seem to be much variety in dressing them up and making them unique other then different hair styles. I wanted a cat in a dope suit, holding a Martini glass sitting next to a Pagani Zonda, Is that too much to ask? lol.
But seriously i wish they had upped the media player stuff and not done nothing.
Boff @ Nov 18th 2008 5:05AM
Netflix is US only. So you can cancel that feature for the rest of the world.
readmore @ Nov 18th 2008 9:18AM
Why does everyone forget about the 8 player party system? I think it's one of the best features! I can't wait to get some Multiplayer gaming in with my friends!!!!!!!!!!!!

The xbox whole console ID I entered in got the RROD, so thats no fun!
Dave Williams: International Vagrant @ Nov 18th 2008 1:04AM
Same here. Le sigh.
Paul @ Nov 18th 2008 3:17AM
i would like to third this situation.....it sucks as i got selected to get this on a couple of days ago in the third wave......
rdjl27 @ Nov 18th 2008 9:31AM
And I'm number four.
Too bad they didn't figure that some people would face this problem... Oh well. It's just a day (or longer for those who got in earlier).
This and the new repair site/complete lack of status for online placed repairs is just a pain.
WilhelmThe1st @ Nov 17th 2008 10:41PM
AWESOME. I saw the update thing and said, "It's the 19th already?" Looked at my calender, checked my e-mail and then a smile creeped onto my face.
Highimpact1 @ Nov 17th 2008 10:43PM
Yay! =)
Grant @ Nov 17th 2008 10:52PM
got mine. hooray!
run n gun 26 @ Nov 17th 2008 10:52PM
I got it on Friday. I must say, I really like it. The installs do speed loads up noticeably, and they are pretty quick. I like the new Xbox Guide, it is almost exactly like the blades interface. And the new Dashboard itself is clean, quick, and intuitive. the only downside is before everybody else has it, the voice chat SUCKS! It will get better (hopefully) when every body else gets it.
ingenious @ Nov 18th 2008 12:01AM
I know! My boyfriend got the first wave of NXE handouts, and everytime I tried to talk to him through Private Chat, he was all choppy, where as all my other Xbox Live buddies worked fine :(
Tungsten Plug @ Nov 18th 2008 1:18AM
the old dash and new aren't compatible with voice chats. Thats all. NXE to NXE works great. its just compatibility with the old one. I have had it since friday and everything else is fine. I love it! Everything is intuitive. My only complaint is that the new dash is a bit sluggish. thats it.
FR3SH JIV3 @ Nov 17th 2008 10:53PM
It is really cool they did this, and a smart way to test the stress on the servers after the fixes from the weekend.
ObiBen @ Nov 17th 2008 10:53PM
And here I thought I was special. Sweetness! Thanks Major!
Seth Rubenstein @ Nov 17th 2008 10:56PM
Does anybody know if this is Console ID specific? I mean I signed up for the preview and entered my console id correctly but I also changed my Gamertag earlier this month would that affect my ability to get tonights download? Anyone know?
Dragod @ Nov 17th 2008 10:56PM
I didn't get it... What the hell. I'm pretty sure I entered my console ID correctly, considering I've done it before when my Xbox RRODed.
Got my hopes up for nothing. Doesn't make me feel better that it seems to be taking 3x as long to read a disc as it did before my 360 was replaced...
NukeAssault @ Nov 17th 2008 10:56PM
"That is, if you correctly filled in your console ID."
IE: Not me cause im an idiot. =(
Even if i did put the right one... im in the same boat as 'PeterF'.

Seth Rubenstein @ Nov 17th 2008 11:00PM
Well don't give up hope yet. Major Nelson said in a tweet that it would take a couple of hours to get everyone onto the go list.
Neuromancer @ Nov 17th 2008 11:01PM
Just got it, awesome!!!
ZenGaijin @ Nov 17th 2008 11:01PM
I thought I was getting it for signing up. Well I got it a day early. Time to make an avatar and wonder what the big fuss is about.
Whatever the interface is much cleaner now so I'm a happy Gaijin.
SourNotHardcore @ Nov 17th 2008 11:05PM
I'm also one of those idiots who entered serial number but I updated the survey a few hours later and it said "Thank you for updating your survey." Do you think I automatically opted out for not putting in my console id first?
Noctis @ Nov 17th 2008 11:10PM
Kick Ass!
Mike @ Nov 17th 2008 11:15PM
I know it's a small thing to be upset by, but is anyone else bothered by the fact that they changed the color of green in the pop up notifications? You know, like in the "achievement unlocked" pop up, around the "X" to the left? Bothered the hell out of me. Otherwise, I love the NXE - especially Netflix
007craft @ Nov 17th 2008 11:19PM
didnt sign up. I saw the post here on x3f about signup and decided to wait until I was done work. By the time I got home, it was giving me some error, and I was told signups closed.
Oh well, 1 day wont kill.
Mikey G @ Nov 17th 2008 11:20PM
Does anyone know the answer to these 2 questions?
Do we get an email tonight like all the other waves who got accepted.
And what does it say under your Connect.microsoft.com program for Xbox360 preview program.
stinger503 @ Nov 18th 2008 1:27AM
I didn't get an e-mail, when I started Xbox Live it updated. And it didn't change anything on the connect website
elendil850 @ Nov 17th 2008 11:20PM
Got mine today!
As an aside, and this is semi-related. I currently have a 20gb pro.
I want to upgrade my system and am trying to decide between the 60gb starter pack and the 120gb drive, what do you guys think?
(Also, does the 60gb pack come with a transfer cable?)
WilhelmThe1st @ Nov 17th 2008 11:23PM
I'm wondering the same. I wanted to try out the installs and only have 5.0 GBs open, so had to delete a whole bunch of videos and my beloved L4D demo (which is coming out this week, yay) just to get enough space to install Fable 2. This is going to basically force me to get a bigger HD, hopefully a deal goes on the 120 GBs...
Dragod @ Nov 17th 2008 11:40PM
I'd go with the 120gb... It's cheaper per gb, I think, and if you already have a mic and don't need a new one, there's no reason to buy the starter pack.
Plus, the extra 60GB would allow you to install absolutely anything you wanted.. If I had 120gb I could install of my games (that are actually worth installing)... It really saddened me to find out Halo 3 played worse on HDD installs.
Also, the starter pack doesn't come with a transfer cable. The point of the starter pack is to give users who don't have a hard drive the ability to play Xbox Live fully... Not to upgrade those with a 20gb already.

I feel left out. LOL!
I seriously got to X3F like 3-5 minutes after the sign up was announced. I filled out the application, and when I clicked to submit it, my FireFox browser said "Not responding" -- By the time I got FireFix working again, the sign ups were closed.
I wanted some bragging rights. Oh well.
NukeAssault @ Nov 17th 2008 11:34PM
If it doesent come with a transfer cable i THINK you can get one from MS for free.
NukeAssault @ Nov 17th 2008 11:34PM
@elendil850 btw.. >_>
Parsnipzilla @ Nov 17th 2008 11:35PM
Can SOMEBODY clarify what time the NXE is going live in different countries?
PLEASE :'(
I live in New Zealand.... noone tells me anything...
Premature ejaculation man @ Nov 17th 2008 11:53PM
=o
Ask them sheep!
I think its the 20th that we get it (I'm Australian and I'm sure they'd release the update 2am US time which is a lot later for us)
stinger503 @ Nov 18th 2008 1:28AM
Works in Canada
Matt @ Nov 17th 2008 11:37PM
Sweet, just turned on my Xbox and it's downloading now!
Tony @ Nov 17th 2008 11:37PM
Even if you didn't get the e-mail, try booting up your 360.
I didn't get the e-mail at all, but when I turned on my 360 it applied the update.
Excited! :D
NukeAssault @ Nov 17th 2008 11:57PM
Yeah i didn't get an email... but when i accept the download it says update failed... >_>
