The new Xbox.com Marketplace is sorta alive

After spotting Avatars' invasion of the Xbox.com profile pages, we're now seeing more changes happen to Xbox.com, especially the online accessible Xbox Live Marketplace. Currently, the Xbox.com browseable Marketplace is offline, but its skeleton structure is browsable and you can see the general XBLM browsing UI. There are categories on the left, new content will be listed at the bottom, the oh so important download queue and all kinds of account management options including credit card changes. Give the not yet officially launched Xbox.com XBLM a browse and patiently awaits its BIG launch on Wednesday.

This is a pretty cool idea. Will it push downloads to a powered-down console if background downloading is turned on? It would be pretty cool to tell my Xbox to download a demo and have it waiting for me when I get home.
wargamer17 @ Nov 18th 2008 1:22PM
The downloads will be available when you turn the console on. It doesn't turn the console on for you and download. I wish it would work that way, but it doesn't. That's how I understand it.

Not 100% sure, but I think it ques things up to download the next time the system is turned on. That would be an awesome feature though. Kind of a "wake on LAN" thing. Guess we'll find out tomorrow.
tabicat @ Nov 18th 2008 1:32PM
There's no way they'll do a wake-on-LAN feature. How would Microsoft's server send a message to an Xbox behind a firewall or router? It would encourage people to connect their Xbox directly to the Internet, and then have it remotely turn on while no one's home. That sounds like a hacking nightmare to me.
xenocidic @ Nov 18th 2008 2:02PM
Yea, because the 360 is so vulnerable to remote exploitation.

I imagine it would only be the same as the Wii's Wiiconnect24, tabicat.

after getting my NXE I sorta having trouble power down the system. When I turn off, I can see hear it running hmmmmmmmm.
yolarrydabomb @ Nov 18th 2008 8:17PM

No green lights. Fans/CD
johnAv @ Nov 18th 2008 1:43PM
When exactly will be the NXE available? I mean will it be at 00:00 or at some random hour during the day?
Any information or predictions about that?
NukeAssault @ Nov 18th 2008 1:52PM
Heard 2am eastern time. Course nothing is solid. Just read it somewhere.
AoE @ Nov 18th 2008 2:05PM
Most downloads/updates seem to roll out around 2am PST...
Chris @ Nov 18th 2008 1:45PM
I just got RROD
Guines @ Nov 18th 2008 2:06PM
I just can't wait to get my hands on this tomorrow!
Sucks though it will be up at 11.00 AM here in Belgium but screw that!
Microsoft did a FINE job here!
I'm happy I bought this console!
mattclarkie @ Nov 18th 2008 2:06PM
Bad idea, especially as no 360 will ever last 10years, so most will be on console number 5 minimum.
I want a neXtBOX to be out by 2011.
mattclarkie @ Nov 18th 2008 2:07PM
Wrong story.
yolarrydabomb @ Nov 18th 2008 8:14PM
heh I brought one and store it in my closest. Tested and works. :P
Just incase.
jdkay20 @ Nov 18th 2008 4:27PM
maybe this will be the best way to download new stuff because i hate the way the new marketplace is set up and it is much slower.
Mrblonde @ Nov 19th 2008 1:14AM
Slower? Its fast for me
