Avatar fashion selection to double in a few months [update]
Update: VG247 is reporting that Microsoft plans on releasing new fashion items every two weeks for 6 months! That's a lot of clothes.
If you've started the Avatar creation process and found the clothing options in your Avatar Closet to be lacking in terms of variety, know that more apparel is headed your way in the weeks to come.
If you've started the Avatar creation process and found the clothing options in your Avatar Closet to be lacking in terms of variety, know that more apparel is headed your way in the weeks to come.
We just came across an Avatar ad on the New Xbox Experience's Spotlight section (viewable above) that informs us that every two weeks new Avatar clothing will be available, which will double the current fashion selection over the next few months. And to keep everyone informed on the new goods, all new apparel will be marked with a yellow star when it's released. We should also mention that we are not sure if the the upcoming fashion choices will be free or paid content (please be free) as we've heard Microsoft express their willingness to monetize Avatars in the future. We'll just have to wait and see.

If MS don't charge for new clothing, my Avatar will eat his beret.
xenocidic @ Nov 19th 2008 10:26AM
OT, but a quick question: when I loaded up NXE this morning I just chose one of the default avatars and then continued... Am I going to be able to change my avatar later?
Deezul @ Nov 19th 2008 10:39AM
Yes. You can "start over" and make whatever you want, whenever you want.
I wish you could save avatars and not just outfits.
xenocidic @ Nov 19th 2008 11:30AM
Thanks Deez.
Deezul @ Nov 19th 2008 9:54AM
And PLEASE alllow for color customization, or even number customization. Why is the football Jersey 55? I thought maybe they'd do 36, or maybe even 75 for the year they were founded.
I can see next year that EA will be all over putting out team jerseys. Sell 'em for 80 points and make a killing.
SeishiZero @ Nov 19th 2008 1:41PM
Just guessing but Bill Gates was born in '55.
Phour ZwanZig @ Nov 19th 2008 2:10PM
Thats what I too am thinkin..
Neuromancer @ Nov 19th 2008 3:25PM
I agree, it's pretty bad that you can't change colors or anything. The character creator in Rock Band for example is about 1 million times more sophisticated than this.
Muffin Lad @ Nov 19th 2008 9:58AM
I dont mind spending some money to create a more unique avatar, only if the accessories are alot different then what is offfered. But they need to be seen alot more then just chilling on my friends list and seen more in game.
joeybeast @ Nov 19th 2008 10:01AM
As long as it's free.
I'm still surprised at how much Avatar looks like mii.
Dirty @ Nov 19th 2008 10:57AM
Im surprised how much the menu sounds.. sound like the wii. How comfortable and familiar.... gag me.
Henry @ Nov 19th 2008 1:33PM
That is just what xbox was going for with this. They want to make the console more family friendly, something wii already has. What better way to do this than to copy someone who already has it? I'm not criticizing xbox for this I think its cool. They say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery.
Ice9 @ Nov 19th 2008 10:05AM
It should be free, but I know it wont be. Not having colour customisation is criminal, thats such a simple and easy thing to do too.
LongshotX @ Nov 19th 2008 10:12AM
Not enough ethnic hairstyles...
The selection of clothes looks like something mostly outfits white guys would wear.
But overall I love my avatar.
On a sidenote, is anyone having trouble activating their Netflix? I have an account and everytime I try it says invalid.
Frosty22 @ Nov 19th 2008 10:17AM
Yeah I had some issues. Just keep trying every half hour or so. I must have tried 30-40 times this morning, then the website said that the activation was down and to check back in 5 hours :). 20 minutes later, it said "check back in 2 hours." 20 minutes later the webpage loaded just fine, I put in the activation code and it worked on my first try. I think it is just inundated with activation requests and it can't keep up.
(Sorry for the double post, I originally meant to reply this to you regarding Netlflix)
Deezul @ Nov 19th 2008 10:19AM
Not what THIS white guy wears. One shirt with a tie, and a short sleeve shirt at that? I'm not Homer Simpson or Andy Sipowitz. And the two suits they have are white or brown. Where's the business casual special - khaki pants and blue blazer?
Vcize @ Nov 19th 2008 10:50AM
On a side note, just imagine the outcry we'd be hearing here if someone said something like...
"The selection of clothes looks like mostly outfits black guys would wear."
AoE @ Nov 19th 2008 2:36PM
Yeah, not clothing this white guy would wear either... perhaps more accurate would be the awful clothing a Rare staffer would wear?
Paul T @ Nov 19th 2008 10:15AM
EVERYONE READ, this is stupid. I was part of the preview program and there was pages of clothes and they took all of it away the last update before Tuesday. There used to be 9 pages of shirts that were actually like soccer shirts from every different country. They make it seem they are adding new clothes when in fact they took em away from the preview program and added them. If you don't believe me ask around try to find my jeans my gamertag is DomPredator.

Is it just me, or is xbox.com not fullt functional (or functional at all, relative to our accounts).
Deezul @ Nov 19th 2008 10:20AM
My guess is they are cutting down on Xbox.com access to deal with all the NXE downloads.
Deezul @ Nov 19th 2008 10:23AM
Right after I post, Xbox.com comes back up. Figures.
brytdavis @ Nov 19th 2008 10:23AM
I'd like to see team apparel, NFL, MLB, etc. ...
Phour ZwanZig @ Nov 19th 2008 2:13PM
Be prepared, very prepared to pay for NFL, MLB, etc.. Theres no doubt in my mind that they will want there cut from using Team Uniforms and such.. Gready they are..

Dude shut the hell up. No one cares about your hurt feelings.
Paul T @ Nov 19th 2008 10:28AM
xbox.com is back up, yo
xenocidic @ Nov 19th 2008 10:34AM
Top intel, cheers.
Paul T @ Nov 19th 2008 10:33AM
I'm not hurt idiot @longshotx, im saying why isnt microsoft including the clothes they had a week ago ur just to dumb not activating ur netflix account thing that ur hurt, my netflix works. Im letting ppl kno these clothes arent being made, they are already made, that its stupid PR talk ur just not that smart to understand my comment
Jayenkai @ Nov 19th 2008 10:37AM
Absolutely.. Could REALLY do with some color options, here! Not being able to wear an orange shirt, light blue pants and a great big face-covering yellow hat.. It's just not on...!
Numbn8 @ Nov 19th 2008 10:39AM
The only shirt I would ever buy would be one that said "I am too busy playing games to bother playing dress up".
Deezul @ Nov 19th 2008 10:40AM
and on the back, "but I have time for snarky comments on fanboy websites."
Numbn8 @ Nov 19th 2008 12:17PM
It's called being on break at work, one day you shall move out of your parents basement and experience this thing called work. Douche.
Neuromancer @ Nov 19th 2008 3:30PM
Haha good one Deezul
DJcube @ Nov 19th 2008 11:01AM
As this stuff goes straight into the Avatar Creator hopefully it's free. Otherwise it would be very, very annoying to browse through tonnes and tonnes of stuff you can't use.
Odog4ever @ Nov 19th 2008 1:17PM
You have a really good point in there. Some people don't want to scroll through pages and pages of clothes they don't like. If they distribute avatar clothing in packs (free or paid) you could build you "virtual closet" the way you want.
For instance why scroll through a tone of female hairstyles and clothing when you have a male avatar? Or have a bunch of soccer jerseys when you only watch football?
CaptainDbag @ Nov 19th 2008 11:25AM
So yeah, color customization would be excellent.
Also, I read that people think it sounds and looks like the Wii Miis? Funny story, my girlfriend, who typically hates video games and wants nothing to do with the 360, but will occasionally play some Wii with me, made the comment that it looks and sounds exactly like the Wii. Too weird...
Jay Rymal @ Nov 19th 2008 12:09PM
I was on the preview when they had more content. The star they are referring to is WAY too big FYI. Hope they fix that.
They had some really good stuff, MUCH more variety. I have a nice tux saved, and some much cooler clothes too. I am still wearing pants and boots you can't get now, but I changed to a default top.
Lets just hope the bring 'em back for free.
Paul T @ Nov 19th 2008 1:02PM
Thats my point I said before they had double the pages of every section in the preview program with the sticker and they took it off, idk why. Stupid PR talk probably buh some ppl dont understand what we are saying or read carefully, btw hopefully they add color customization.
Ryan Hartman @ Nov 19th 2008 12:19PM
Are clothes going to unlock like achievements? I mean you get lil' gamer pictures and crap when you play certain games or reach certain milestones anyway
... will I now just get a mega man blaster to put on my Mii when I beat Wiley's castle instead of a mega man gamer pic that I would normally get from Mega Man 9?
RedSonRising @ Nov 20th 2008 3:41AM
Please be free. Please be free.
or at least mostly free with some paid dlc. if they dont add more clothes free of charge i cant justify buying it all..
ill buy more clothes just like i bought some gamerpics with leftover m$ pts if they give us more to work with for free.
the current palate is very thin and not very flexible: only 1 pr of heels?
RedSonRising @ Nov 20th 2008 6:16AM
is there a list somewhere of games that unlock gamerpics along with achivements?
i have 75 games played, maybe i have 5 gamerpics unlocked of the 200 ive downloaded (a few purchases but mostly freebies)..
im not expecting to get many free items from games and if they dont release free avatar items i wouldnt be surprised at all..
ItalianHeartbreak @ Nov 26th 2008 2:34PM
There is a wayy to change you hair color. Of course you kno how to change hair color but I mean different colors like Purple, Green, Pink, etc.
KID_UZAMAKI @ Nov 28th 2008 8:45PM
I think that microsoft should incorporate different clothes for the avatar according to what games they play. It would be cool to have like a prince of persia outfit or some hokage clothes to buy for avatars. You could also have jerseys and football wear. I think they would make a lot of people happy that way and expand there horizon.
