Xbox 360 install base at 25 million, outsells original

Microsoft warned us it was coming and now it's official. The Xbox 360 has surpassed the original Xbox by reaching the 25 million worldwide install base in just over three years. Shout it from the rooftops!
"We've already surpassed the installed base of the original Xbox " said VP of interactive entertainment Chris Lewis, informing MCV that the 25 million milestone has been reached in November, just as was forecasted. Of which 7 million of those consoles live in European homes. We just want everyone to know that we love the entire Xbox 360 community, all 25 million of you. Yes ... even you.

so, xbox360 took 3 years to sell as many consoles as xbox did in 3.5years. Am I the only one to think that kinda sucks? I thought 360 was doing well!

I wonder if that is taking into account all the rebuys for bad systems?
Fafhrdd @ Nov 25th 2008 12:54PM
What a great day! I am so glad the system is doing so well. It's a great machine.
My 360 launch machine is still running like the day I bought it :)

Boris - Are you retarded? The Xbox released November 15, 2001. They discontinued it in late 2006. That would be 5 years in was on the market. So the 360 sold the same in 3 years as the Xbox did in 5 years. That's almost doubling the original Xbox's sales.

I wonder how acurate that number is considering everytime you exchange your xbox at a store, it counts as a sale. I am on #4 and my friend is on #12.

Hard to believe he is on the twelfth xbox...
I am lucky because my xbox is not broken yet then, and I have playing it when the room is over 40 degree Celsius in 10 hours in row on the summer somtimes so I guess my 360 is strong.
