GTAIV 'Lost and Damned' DLC available at retail

When Microsoft and Rockstar Games initially announced their partnership to release the Grand Theft Auto IV Lost and Damned DLC to the 360, we were under the impression that it'd be exclusive to the Xbox Live Marketplace. We were wrong.
There's a Gamestop.com product listing for "Grand Theft Auto IV: Lost & Damned" and the product is a redemption code card that requires Xbox Live to redeem. We're guessing that retailers will be selling Lost and Damned redemption cards in place of a retail disc to sell the DLC at a retail level. Oh, also note that Gamestop has the DLC listed to release on February 17th for $19.99.

Damn, thought that was going to mean a disc for a second there. I'm still stuck with just the 20gb drive, it's a squeeze.
DBoyFlex @ Nov 28th 2008 6:33PM
Sounds like shivering isles. You can buy it disk form, but also through the marketplace. Seems easier to buy on the marketplace, but in store you might get some sort of promotion, like from gamestop. Maybe not though. Could be for those 10 year olds that don't have daddy's credit card anymore and have to pick them up at the store with cash they got from mowing the lawn.
Kevin @ Nov 29th 2008 12:27AM
don't think so, the box contains a code... so you need live either way
Ozzpot @ Nov 29th 2008 3:52AM
I don't think they'd be doing this for the kids with no with credit cards either, since this is an M rated game.
I can't think of any reason for it other than so people that don't trawl websites like this, or aren't on Xbox Live yet, know about it.
DBoyFlex @ Nov 29th 2008 10:33AM
Just because it is an M rated game does not mean 10 years olds are not playing it. I have run in to my fair share of pre pubescent pricks on GTA 4.
Also, obviously you need live still, you just do not need to buy MS points to get the content.

So I have this crazy theory... Even I know it's outlandish, so take it for what it is... Fanboy speculation.
That said. It's called Lost and Damned but the gang is just "The Lost", correct?
So... What if they have to FACE the damned?
As in... What if that "New side of Liberty" we will be seeing is actually a city in ruins... With Undead roaming the streets?
In support of this I'd point out the following:
-The title card is written in blood in the promo images.
-They guys at R* are ALL about zombies, referencing them in several past games including IV itself.
-The Riot codes in previous installments could easily be tuned into a more zombie-esque series of attacks so the effort would fall mostly on new characters skins (not a big deal) and some possible changes to the environment (not 100% necessary, the DLC could take place in the opening stages of an outbreak)
-The biker gang is the perfect cast. Think Dawn of the Dead... Bikers WANT a zombie apocalypse; it lets them off the chain.
-The mission style gameplay of GTA is suited perfectly to a zombie game. Go here, save that person. Blow away X number of zombies. Steal X to assist in defense. Loot, kill, loot some more etc.
-Zombies are a perfect reason to bring on the military, with their presence; we may also get tanks, flamethrowers etc.
-Along with new weapons, tanks and other goodies, it brings back the one ingredient that people seem to miss most. Over the top, outlandish mayhem. R* is aware that more that a couple people complained about the new serious and more plausible story line. This lets them have a little more fun (to be fair, that is probably going to happen anyway)
- As an episodic DLC, the shock of changing the game so much from past titles is lessened, being that this is a one off just for fun situation, they have the freedom to go a little crazy.
- The idea is EPIC. Every single one of us that has played a RE or left4dead or anything like it has thought to themselves at LEAST once "Dude, they should make a zombie game in a city the size of a GTA game.
- New multiplayer modes could include an infection game, similar to the zombie matches in Halo where getting bit turns you undead and the aim is to turn everyone or kill ever zombie.
-Such an undertaking would require quite a bit longer to program then, say, a few extra missions featuring some bikers.
Of course... It's more then likely IS just a series of Missions just to the side of IV's main plot, featuring this gang and their wild ways but you have to admit, in the hands of R*, the idea has a LOT of merit.
What do you think? It may be unlikely but it would be pretty damn cool, eh?
Critter3 @ Nov 28th 2008 6:43PM
Too bad you weren't the lead developer for R*!
My pitiful guess is that there will be a rival gang named The Damned.
AJ @ Nov 28th 2008 6:43PM
Fantastic idea. I really hope that you're right.
GTA IV is a great game, but the whole formula is starting to feel stale.
Zombies and GTA would be a great mix, keeping the basic concepts the same but completely changing the missions/people/items/environments.
Critter3 @ Nov 28th 2008 6:50PM
After doing some searching and reading...you are probably right!
LFotF @ Nov 28th 2008 7:52PM
Although this will probably just be a few biker themed missions, I hope you're right! WHat you just described is cooler than like 98% of games that are released. Major props on the idea!
prence @ Nov 28th 2008 8:54PM
It'd be cool but I doubt it. GTA kind of prides itself on being an ultra-realistic game. I don't see them taking the leap and putting zombies into it (other than as a little multiplayer prank.)
Dadidito @ Nov 28th 2008 10:07PM
You should seriously think about contacting someone over there. That would sell immensely. Good ideas.
BananaBoat @ Nov 29th 2008 1:12AM
Imagine liberty city infected with zombies.... not those fast pansy ass zombies from L4D, but slow, menacing zombies.
Good thing GTA IV has shopping malls for the humans to hide. Oh wait, no it doesn't, they left that Vice City feature out. Oh well.
itsburnsie @ Nov 29th 2008 8:23AM
I tell you what, I'd be way more interested in THAT dlc than a biker gang add-on.
I'd buy your game, Mr. Parker.
Clark Parker @ Nov 28th 2008 6:39PM
And come on... Just look at them. All badass and brooding in the rain... Especially that Edge lookin' mother-f**ker on the left there. That guy was MADE for caving in zombie skulls.
I see it starting out normal, with a few biker missions and run-ins with the cops... Then out of nowhere BAM! It goes all Dusk-till-Dawn on us... Only with Zombies, not Vampires.
Rauland @ Nov 28th 2008 6:52PM
I heard (can't tell you were or ill get in trouble) most of the stuff eg cars, guns that are going to be in this DLC have allready been made during the development of gta 4. The reason why it isnt in gta 4 in the first place is because they couldnt fit it in all the content onto a DVD disc. So they decided to add the extra stuff they allready had made via DLC just like Burnout Paradise did.
I also heard that M$ pushed Rockstar to release this DLC next year so they could sell more copies of gta 4 on the 360
Clark Parker @ Nov 28th 2008 7:00PM
I don't know, man... I mean, with the NXE we now know via the Download Game option that GTA IV only takes up about 6 1/2 gigs on an 8 gig disk... They crammed it pretty full, yeah, but to say they didn't have room for a couple extra cars? Sounds pessimistic to me.
And MS wanted the DLC out earlier. They were pushing to have it out by August, so the second half of your argument doesn't hold much water either.
Granted, this is coming from a cat trying to suggest they are gonna turn it into a survival horror so what do I know?
That said though, regardless of the content, I am fairly certain they have been building it from scratch and the delay is the same as it always is with R*... Quality control. They only release finished products and have a history of taking their time to get things right.
SadisticHam @ Nov 28th 2008 7:58PM
This just in:
I heard the PS3 was the new Jesus.
Seriously get out of here and stop making shit up. XD
MDJ2010 @ Nov 29th 2008 7:06AM
Haha, 'can't tell you where I heard or I'll get in trouble' - IDIOT!
AoE @ Dec 1st 2008 8:15PM
"can't tell you were or ill get in trouble"
So you're saying your ass would get pissed at you if it found out that you were in fact the one pulling stories out of it?
Rauland @ Nov 28th 2008 7:07PM
yeah but havent you notice all games on the xbox 360 only fill 6 1/2 gigs for some unknow reason. I think because if they fill all 8 gigs the disc would take forever to read or something
Bodabo @ Nov 28th 2008 9:00PM
I highly doubt zombies will be coming to GTA4 (tho that is a great idea).I just cant picture R* doing that. All the previous GTA games have covered most sides of the life of gangs and crime (i.e. Italian mob in GTA 1,2,3, Russian mob in GTA4 and Black and Hispanic in San Andreas sort of anyways. Now they are doing bikers so I couldn't see them cutting a story short or whatever just to throw in zombies, GTA4 was meant to be more realistic plus there is like 5 zombie games that have come out in the past year including the ones early next year.I really dont see zombies coming to GTA4.
ishaan55 @ Nov 29th 2008 2:32AM
gta vice city stories had zombie mall mission if anyone remembers
Bootleg Zani @ Nov 29th 2008 12:07AM
The real question is if this could pull me away from the other 10 games I'm backlogged in.
ishaan55 @ Nov 29th 2008 12:24AM

Does anyone else see MS not offering this on the marketplace for point only though code redemption, which will vary in price from region to region. $19.99us, £19.99uk, €19.99
Mike @ Nov 29th 2008 8:48AM
LOL so much for 360 exclusivity. Seems to the PS3 version of this is also coming to retail, and all Microsoft managed to buy was the exclusivity to the downloadable version of it.
What a waste of 50m
NOOK @ Nov 29th 2008 10:30AM
What would make you think that?
DBoyFlex @ Nov 29th 2008 10:35AM
Just cause it is sold in stores does not mean it is coming to the PS3. Post a link indicating where you saw that this DLC is not xbox exclusive.
NOOK @ Nov 29th 2008 10:33AM
The zombie idea - awesome! But when I read the headline, i was going "yeah!" only to realize that I can buy a damn code retail? o.O This sucks, I would have spend a few bucks more for a disc version of this. Buy their digital content and very soon you will only be able get new games downloaded and play them only until they turn off the servers :(
AoE @ Dec 1st 2008 8:16PM
If you think that somehow by not buying DLC this will somehow change things... well, have I got a bridge to sell you!
Swagman @ Nov 29th 2008 12:35PM
this should be good news for someone
refinedsugar @ Nov 29th 2008 7:04PM
$19.99 ... that translates into how many marketplace points ... in Canada? 1400 pts is $20 ... so, yeah, okay. Blah.
