Rumor: Jasper 360s get 256MB internal storage

Word on the street is that the Jasper Xbox 360s (consoles with a smaller 65nm chipset) are finally hitting retail shelves and along with the benefits of running cooler, requiring less power, and being generally more "stable", we're finding out that Jaspers may also have additional storage capabilities.
According to a Xbox-Scene who recently got their mitts on a Jasper 360, the on board flash chip storage has been increased from 12MB to a whopping 256MB. If true, the additional built-in storage would allow Microsoft to pre-install the New Xbox Experience without requiring a memory card or HDD. We're also told that 214MB of the on board storage can be used for game saves and XBLA storage. Nice!

And that's why the arcade offer is only for a limited time...
dicknjane @ Nov 28th 2008 10:55AM
that's a really smart move on their part. good job MS!
XTECH9 @ Nov 28th 2008 10:55AM
This article failed to mention that the 512 mb memory drive is no longer available in the jasper arcade sku either so this isn't that great of news but atleast it will be either to find a jasper.
AndyD @ Nov 28th 2008 11:03AM
sorry either=easier
Octantis @ Nov 28th 2008 11:21AM
Can you site a story where they claim Arcades aren't going to have a memory card bundled?
readmore @ Nov 28th 2008 12:21PM
FTA
"the onboard flash chip has grown from 16MB to 256MB. Microsoft included internal memory storage, so the Arcade SKU now ships without (external) Memory Unit and the new NXE dash will install fully on the flashchip (rather than requiring a HDD or external MU)."
h0mi @ Nov 28th 2008 11:09AM
Arcade never had 512mb memory cards; it came with a 256mb memory card. AFAIK the 512mb MU is still being sold and isn't being cut. If they're not gonna bundle any MUs with the arcade, its a good think that there's on board memory.

Does the Netflix feature require a hard drive to work? I am thinking about getting an arcade system so I can play Netflix and my networked videos/music in my bedroom.
DBoyFlex @ Nov 28th 2008 12:49PM
In addition to the NXE, the netflix app is about 3 megs, so yeah, but if you have enough for NXE, you can spare 3 more.
RazLeBoL @ Nov 28th 2008 12:58PM
Not a rumor. One of my friend got one and it has indeed 256mb of internal storage.
Mokano40 @ Nov 28th 2008 1:05PM
Nooo !!!, I just bought a new one 1 month ago, it says Manufacture date Jul 31 2008, is there any chance this one could be Jasper?
Gamertag: GOPAL892005 @ Nov 28th 2008 1:27PM
look at the power supply - if it says 150w, then is a Jasper - if it says 175w, then its a Falcon.
Mokano40 @ Nov 28th 2008 2:00PM
thanks for that tip, I'll check as soon as i get home
Shela Monster @ Nov 28th 2008 1:07PM
It would be nice if it was a dedicated cache area.
That way if/when you do get a HDD, games will play even smoother, and much better when installed while cache is stored here.
Gamertag: GOPAL892005 @ Nov 28th 2008 1:29PM
i dont think 200MB is going to make much difference for caching while playing a game - plus the game has to be coded to know it should cache to a certain storage device if its available.
However, the space reserved by MS on the HDD can be used for caching if the devs code that into the game; HALO 3 does it :)

Paddlin' the RRoD...Oh, you better believe that's a paddlin...
yolarrydabomb @ Nov 28th 2008 1:32PM
shit...
I install Acarde system with NXE without the memory card or HDD.
Mazrael @ Nov 28th 2008 1:41PM
Finally, Jaspers..
I'm waiting for the Elite Jaspers, my Elite Zephyr is still going strong, it's been in once cos the GPU was failing, but then it's has excessive use.. I'd really like the newer hardware, and sell my one on.. I'm guessing there's no was to spot one though
Doug @ Nov 28th 2008 2:49PM
This is great and all.... But when are they going to add internal WiFi?
Will @ Nov 28th 2008 3:37PM
Uhh, never? So long as MS can make 100 bucks for the wifi adapter, they'll never do that.
Doug @ Nov 28th 2008 3:41PM
And how many of those adapters can they are really selling, with an outrageous price of $100 a piece?
Highimpact1 @ Nov 28th 2008 3:51PM
Well... I have one. ;)
Littlefields @ Nov 28th 2008 5:24PM
I don't know about "never" but it'll probably be around the later years of the 360's life span. I would predict that when sales are going down and next gen consoles are begining to pop up, that's when they're going to add those features. Perhaps even a slimmer model, the rumored motion controls or even a built in power supply. But it's going to be a while no doubt.
Duscrom @ Nov 29th 2008 2:22PM
Soon as WiFi Stops sucking for online games. Do you realize how crowded the 2.4Ghz spectrum is? I have a PS3, and I can tell when it's on WiFi... cause then Downloads slow down to a crawl, and lag shoots up.
Rich @ Nov 28th 2008 3:34PM
Is there any way to tell if your system is a jasper before you buy it? I have been waiting to get an elite with the absolute best internal parts and cannot wait any longer. PLZ help!
Mazrael @ Nov 28th 2008 6:20PM
Once they're out there in force, it'll be about knowing what to see underneath the flap on the box.. like which team, lot number & date it was made.. & hopefully a sign of a wattage (Xenon & Zephyr 230w, Falcon 175w, Jasper could be 150w)
Patrick @ Nov 29th 2008 12:05AM
Just to confirm it is true just got off Black Friday work at Gamestop(btw sucked) on our daily memo said this will be happening in arcades no longer will there be memory card.
Synyster_Craig @ Dec 9th 2008 1:23PM
