Another handy NXE game install size guide
It seems like putting together lists of NXE game install sizes is all the rage these days. Now NeoGAF has joined the fun, compiling one of its own. This list includes a few games not featured on the Binge Gamer list we mentioned earlier this month. The list seems fairly exhaustive and we're sure that GAF users will be making it as comprehensive as possible. Many of the games listed also have comments as to how the game performs once installed to the hard drive. Just in case you're wondering -- and we know you are -- yes, load times in Rumble Roses XX are significantly reduced.

does installing games on hard drive prevent dirty disc errors?
Nick @ Nov 29th 2008 4:44PM
Uh.
There's no disc spinning.
If it doesn't reduce it, then the errors aren't anything to do with the disc, because the disc isn't spinning.
If there are issues, go rent another copy of the game after you delete it from the HDD and install it again, that's the bonus.

That's what I did. I accidentally scratched my copy of Saints Row 2. So I got it from my cousin and installed it. Now all I need is my scratched copy to be detected and I am off to play Saints Row 2 :).
Capgun @ Nov 29th 2008 6:18PM
Doesn't work for scratched stuff. If the game doesn't work, the install wont work, at least from what Ive seen. My old copy of Need For Speed Most Wanted no longer works due to some scratch on it. Upon a install attempt, it got to about 50% and told be that it could not be completed.

I think you missed his point, capgun--
He said he would use an UNscratched disc to do the install, and then use his OWN to sit in the tray LATER to be able to play that install. There might be a subtle difference.

I have a bad burn of Lego Batman that freezes every other mission.. copied it to the hard drive and now no more problems.
So yes, it can help.

Same, my TF2 on The Orange Box would never load from the disc but when i installed it, TF2 worked.

Looks like I can make good use of installing Vesperia on my 360.

Meh, I tried loading Halo3, and it sucked, made it worse than before. Not bothered since. Anyway, I can only load 1 or 2 games at most, without it filling my entire HDD.
Hello @ Nov 29th 2008 6:40PM
Halo 3 has known issues with performance post install. Bungie has even addressed it. Don't let that experience deter you.
Doug @ Nov 29th 2008 6:55PM
"Hello" is 100% correct--Halo is not indicative of the install experience. There are issues regarding the game's OWN install/data reading process that conflict with a user's install. It's the exception, not the rule.
DBoyFlex @ Nov 29th 2008 7:02PM
The original is better. This list is actually quite crappy. The original (or at least that I have seen) is here:
http://www.bingegamer.net/2008/so-how-much-time-are-you-saving-xbox-360-nxe-hard-drive-install-chart/
Much more complete. Ex. Dead space is not listed in this post but is in the one I linked to. Same with Turok, amongst other. If it ain't broked, don't fixed it.
Richard Mitchell @ Nov 29th 2008 7:40PM
For what it's worth, I found that each list had games that weren't on the other.
DBoyFlex @ Nov 29th 2008 7:41PM
Ok, so then your task is to compile them all into one Master List... not it.

Best DB I've seen so far.
DBoyFlex @ Nov 29th 2008 10:52PM
Nice list. Basically anytime I install anything I assume it is gonna be 6.8. That way it really doesn't matter. I have not yet come close to filling it up, but I only put games on it that I am intently playing currently. Nice find though.

halo 3 online runs the same if not better from my 20 gig drive, 2006 model.
MDJ2010 @ Nov 30th 2008 7:00AM
Ok, so i have a 20gb drive which is constantly filling up with new arcade games and game add ons. Should I bother using this feature? I mean I could probably spare the space for a game install at a time. Is it worth using it in that way, installing the game every time you want to play it. Take into account that I am more interested in anything by the reduction of disc noise over any load times. Thanks
Ghen @ Nov 30th 2008 10:37AM
Depends on the game. I wouldn't install games that you go back to weeks later and play, this is more for the games that you rent and play the piss out of for 3 days before returning it.
Ujn Hunter @ Dec 1st 2008 3:56PM
obviously Rumble Roses benefits the most... nothing worse than a loading screen "mid-wank" ;)
ZeroCorpse @ Jan 26th 2009 5:25PM
This feature is what brought me back to the Xbox 360 after a brief sojourn to PS3 land.
The absolute worst thing about the 360 is the loud optical drive. I can now play Oblivion without hearing the mood-breaking sound of a jet airplane in Tamriel.
Of course, your mileage may vary. Not all 360s have the same optical drive, and some drives are naturally quieter than others.
I don't care about load times as much I do the noise level. It's a shame to have a great-sounding game drowned out by the DVD drive.
