Rumor: LEGO: Harry Potter in construction

Rumor word coming from CVG is that a new LEGO: Harry Potter game is in development for a possible release next year as Traveller's Tales continues to develop every known franchise into a blocky LEGO game. Yes, we're looking at you Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Batman. The LEGO: Harry Potter game is also rumored to be published by Warner Bros. Interactive who wore the publisher hat for the recently released LEGO: Batman game.
Any guess to how long before we see LEGO: Lord of the Rings make it to retail? A brickified Gollum would be sweet.

expected. spiderman is next. the licenses are just lined up.
qchronod @ Dec 1st 2008 6:11PM
LEGO: X-Men, that's what I want next!
you could have hella fun with all the mutant powers.
They could easily run the LEGO series into the ground, but as long as they keep it funny I say keep them coming.
Nate @ Dec 1st 2008 6:28PM
The video games that have come out already have Lego licensing anyway, including Harry Potter.
birdshake @ Dec 1st 2008 6:49PM
The possibilities..... Lego Godfather.
Kayla @ Dec 2nd 2008 3:49AM
Yes, please. XD
jdubya @ Dec 1st 2008 7:12PM
Lego Ninja Turtles please.
Delirium @ Dec 1st 2008 7:13PM
Are these Lego games even any good? By the amount of whoring, you'd think it'd be popular.
Misinformed DNA @ Dec 1st 2008 7:41PM
Yes, they are very good. I've played every one and I still enjoy them. Also, a great game for kids and wives.
Nathew @ Dec 1st 2008 7:44PM
yeah, unless you're 12 or under, i'd avoid it. these are more for the wii's target audience. try a demo if you must.
DBoyFlex @ Dec 1st 2008 8:01PM
I am in the upper 20s and love the Lego games. Disregard the guy talking about for those 12 and under. Lego Batman has a demo, so check it out. All 3 of them pretty much play the same, with obvious differences with the story being told. I love them. I saw Lego Indy at Target for 14 bucks, so try target and you may get it for cheap. The Star Wars Complete Series is now also 20 bucks MSRP, so they are cheap and they hold many hours of gaming. Replay is high until you find everything, but then pack them away for the kids, so says I.
ryan @ Dec 1st 2008 7:18PM
I'd actually like to see Lego incarnations of other games like:
Lego Tomb Raider, Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden, Prince of Persia, or *gasp* LittleBIGPlanet!
Dragod @ Dec 1st 2008 7:44PM
EGM's Lego Halo prank last year was awesome, and I thought it was a cool idea. First person Lego Halo? Hell yeah.
Alexander @ Dec 2nd 2008 10:02AM
Hell no! You know how weird it would be to play a blocky FPS? It be like playing the super nintendo. Maybe third person but FPS wouldn't work.
Momer @ Dec 1st 2008 8:03PM
I don't really mind, but I know this will bring lots of joy to little ones and families that buy the game. I've actually enjoyed all of the Harry Potter games that have come out over the years. They seem to have more production value than the standard movie-to-game adaptation. Play Chamber of Secrets for Gameboy or GBA and you'll see what I mean. Oh, the good old days...
Xanto @ Dec 1st 2008 8:06PM
I Don't doubt it, the Lego games have fared well and Harry Potter has quite a big fanbase. I think it'd work well.
cranium @ Dec 1st 2008 8:20PM
my only issue is that this will further cement the idea that harry potter is a children's series into everyone's minds; something I wholeheartedly protest. I'd applaud any child who understands the latter half of the series.
with that said, "Accio!"
Duke @ Dec 1st 2008 8:46PM
So can we hear some support for Lego Deliverance.
No, on second thought...no.
pete @ Dec 1st 2008 8:49PM
i highly doubt it. think about it, right now you can buy a HP game for every movie that has come out, and they follow the plots extremely closely. if they made lego versions, it would basically be like putting a mask on a game that has been out for a long time already. at least the lego games up until now have been the first of their kinds in terms of giving you the ability to essentially play through your favorite movies
ANTHOLOGY @ Dec 1st 2008 9:09PM
Lego Harry Potter? This will be the first Lego game i dont play.
DBoyFlex @ Dec 2nd 2008 8:53AM
Yeah, me too. I will wait for Lego spiderman and xmen.
FlashbackX01 @ Dec 1st 2008 9:24PM
The way Midway is going, how about Lego Mortal Kombat?
BFBeast666 @ Dec 1st 2008 10:08PM
I really like the two Lego Star Wars games. I'm 32 and those brought back fond memories of my childhood when SW was THE rage and Lego too (before they had those crappy Bionicle toys).
But I think they're seriously overdoing the licensing crap, both in terms of toys and video games. When I was a kid, there was Lego Knights, Lego City and Lego Space and everything else we built ourselves. Heck, we even made our own Lego He-Man :) Nowadays you just go out and buy the latest playset for the latest movie franchise. Makes me sad.
Tony @ Dec 1st 2008 10:36PM
I am SO tired of these. I thought it was a novel idea, but how many of these do we need? It's the same concepts and same gameplay over and over and over again.
These are really the Tony Halk games of the past generation.
Brett @ Dec 1st 2008 10:36PM
My 5 year-old plays these games with amazing skill, and he wants to see a LEGO Scooby Doo. I think it could work.
Deezul @ Dec 1st 2008 10:37PM
It'll happen, and it will work pretty good. 7 sections, for the 7 Harry Potter books. Should space out quite well.
The only other licensed product LEGO current has is Sponge Bob, so maybe that's next instead. They had Spider-man for the first movie, but Mega Blocks has the overall Marvel license. And as much as the LEGO fanboys would go gaga over the old Space or Castle themes, a Lego owned property won't sell. Anyone play Bionicle the Video Game?
AoE @ Dec 1st 2008 10:47PM
Hey maybe I am crazy here... but personally I'd like a Lego Lego game... over the past decades the Lego line has had some pretty inventive worlds... it would be nice to see a game that features those.
Deezul @ Dec 2nd 2008 7:38AM
You mean this game?

AoE @ Dec 2nd 2008 2:18PM
Nope, that's an MMO.
K Fed @ Dec 1st 2008 11:16PM
How about LEGO Four Christmases
Cale @ Dec 1st 2008 11:31PM

damn i wish i was a copyright lawyer, someone is getting BANK every time a new lego-whatever comes out
Staton @ Dec 2nd 2008 12:36AM
A lego harry potter actually wouldn't be that bad. I personally prefer Lego Star Wars over any of the other Lego games, mainly because being able to use the force to mess with Legos was fun. Thats what Lego batman and indiana jones lacked. With harry potter you'd be able to use magic which is similiar to the force, meaning the gameplay could be pretty good.
yolarrydabomb @ Dec 2nd 2008 1:19AM
LEGO Halo
Chyld989 (MKWii: 5241-2307-2882) @ Dec 2nd 2008 1:32AM
Here's hoping they do Lego: The Guy Game next! Anyone with me?
...nobody?
WEGGLES @ Dec 2nd 2008 1:44AM
Lego Starwars was cute and charming and a surprise hit, but now they're just milking it. :\
Andrew @ Dec 2nd 2008 2:14AM
"Milking it" suggests that the quality of the games go down, but all of the LEGO games play pretty much the same. It's a pretty hard concept to screw up.
Hanzaki @ Dec 2nd 2008 7:25AM
Because of the recent buy-out by Warner Bros there won't be any non-Warner licence from now on...
So won't be LegoSpiderman or LegoHalo (at least now), BUT there will be LegoLOTR probably around the Hobbits films. Or maybe LegoMatrix...
Brucie B @ Dec 2nd 2008 7:59AM
Keep the Lego Games coming!!!
My son just turned 4, & he already beat Lego Indiana Jones. So for his B-day I got him Lego Star Wars & Lego Batman. Great Games! He loves them, & I don't mind playing co-op with him!
Great ideas,
Lego Scooby
Lego SpongeBob
Lego Power Rangers
Lego GTA, Mature only lol
LegendaryRedass @ Dec 2nd 2008 8:32AM
How about Lego: HeeHaw? Your magic power could be blowin on a jug.
Grim @ Dec 2nd 2008 8:48AM
lego series must DIE! lool , come on .. Leave this shit for the wii . milk dat shit , milk it till theres nothing but dust . lego Mr Hankey for xmas!!
Felipe @ Dec 2nd 2008 9:01AM
what about Lego Half-Life 2, assuming they make the first one. i wonder how Lego G-Man would be like.
prence @ Dec 2nd 2008 9:24AM
I thought LEGO Batman sucked; however, that's only because they tried to develop their own very poor storyline. If they stick to the movies that everyone knows and loves, it would be amazing.
Bring on LOTR, Harry Potter, X-Men, Pirates of the Caribbean, Back to the Future, etc!
Vcize @ Dec 2nd 2008 9:37AM
This actually sounds like a good idea.
Lego Indy got boring because everything was just focused on punching and kicking since no one had special powers, a la lightsabers and the force in Lego SW.
Happy Steve @ Dec 2nd 2008 10:28AM
Lego Deep Throat (What? There could be a game based on Watergate. :)
Lego Super Mario Bros. (Surprised this isn't out yet)
